Not really because he never showed exactly how he got the fan & water pump pully off which is not that easy in the 4.0

@@vee950 with the info provided in the video, if you still can't discern the intermediate steps, then you'd be best to just take it to a mechanic instead of trying to be insulting in the comment section on a 3yo video on youtube that the guy didn't even have to post.

Thanks for making this video. I have just finished replacing my 1997 RHD Grand Cherokee and the steps were almost identical (including the handy bucket step to catch the unexpected extra coolant :-) ). Thanks to this video I had a pretty good idea of what i was in for so things went to plan and she is now back in one piece and running.

This is a surprisingly good walk through on the steps to change a cater wooler. Sometimes it borderlines on an ASMR video, but that's just me lol. IMPORTANT TIP: Some water pumps are pipe threaded, meaning, the inlet tube may not thread on quite all the way! it's fine, just be sure to use teflon!

You definitely help me out bro. I had to swap my radiator out and decided to go ahead and put in a new water pump and thermostat in serpentine belt. I got a late start so I'm going to be sleeping in my Jeep tonight at the shop but that ain't no mountain for a climber. Thank you my friend and have a Merry Christmas!

Interesting how the location of the ancillaries varies: I have a '96 XJ 4 litre which is right hand drive, Japan spec. and I changed the water pump last weekend. On mine the aircon compressor is mounted very low down on the left side of the engine, above that is a substantial aluminium bracket holding the mechanical fan and above that is the power steering pump. The fan has a shroud of its own and to the right of the radiator is mounted the electric fan in its own shroud which is easily removed. The alternator is mounted high up on the right side of the engine and the alternator is used to adjust the belt tension. Just below the alternator are 2 idlers. Nothing is mounted on the water pump flange except the pulley. The hose clip securing the bottom hose to the pump was a pig to get at but apart from that the job was straightforward.

Get a Haynes Manual. The torque for the fan blade to clutch bolts is 18 ft-lbs, 1998 and earlier water pump bolts is 22 ft-lbs (6 cylinder).

how did you know to replace the water pump. I jeep will dump coolant as soon as I turn it off its coming from the area of where the water pump is but not sure exactly where. I am replacing the water pump, (with the help of this video). but not sure if that's what it is.
@mugivermusclemachines5744
@mugivermusclemachines5744 6 жыл бұрын
CURENTLYUNNAMED Without actually being there to see it, my guess it is the water pump. Water pumps usually have a hole drilled in them before the seal so it is a warning sign that your pump is about to fail and it leaks coolant from that area. Good luck and thanks for watching!

While changing my water pump, thermo. & fan clutch my radiator drain plug stripped out, it was VERY HARD COMING OUT ? GARBAGE PLASTIC & IT'S NOT LIKE YOURS ON MY 97, FINE THREADS ? I wrapped a bunch of Teflon tape around it & it finally stopped leaking. I have a new RAD. but am waiting for spring to put it in then change my oil pan gasket, timing chain & gears. IT'S NEVER ENDING RIGHT NOW FOR MY 97 EVERYTHING NEEDS REPLACING BUT WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FOR OVER A 20 YEAR VEHICLE ? I thought it was ready for winter but little did I know the JEEP HAD OTHER PLANS, IT'S A JEEP THING I KEEP TELLING MYSELF, I LOVE THEM.

Great Video. Have the same vehicle and guess what....coolant all over the driveway tonight. Thought it was the lower hose at first but I'm not that lucky. This video is exactly what I need to save time. I'm curious. What's your estimate of the fix without the video?

Wait! How did you remove those four 13mm bolts holding the fan to the water pump off? They are buried, plus the pulley turns the opposite way when trying to unscrew them, making it impossible to remove those bolts without holding opposite pressure, which is extremely difficult. ** Video Marker 3:35 **
