My Cherokee Freedom's water pump took a dump on me yesterday and had to pull it into Lowes and leave it overnight. Awesome video! I just replaced mine yesterday. I will say this: I had some issues with the thermostat housing. These crack a lot and you need to be super careful when you put it back on. I had to buy a new one. Also, please use some RTV silicon gasket maker on the inside of the thermostat if your thermostat did not come with a rubber gasket on it. My local auto store did not sell my thermostat with a rubber gasket already on, so we had to use the RTV silicon stuff.

Im a fan of flushing the heater core anytime im flushing coolant. Part stores rent out a handy fitting to go on the end of your garden hose for it that really cleans it out.

Great video! Looks like replacing the valve cover gasket would be easier access while doing the water pump. Mine needs it.

I've used several of your videos to make repairs on my 96 Cherokee. Your instructions are awesome and you don't skip over any details. I was watching one video and the guy just skipped over the part where he removed the fan shroud and fan. I can fix things but if a step is missing, I might sit there for a half hour trying to figure it out. Thanks for taking the time to post these videos.

I ended up cracking 2 t stat housings because it was torqued down too tight. It takes very little to do that, I think it was like 7 ft lbs or something. As for the gaskets, I've found using RTV on both sides of the gasket acts as a glue to help hold the gasket in place (using the bolts never worked for me). Just food for thought for anyone with a slipping gasket issue.

Nice job explaining it all. I ended up having to take off the steering pump and bracket to get to the lower hose clamp.

I seen other videos use a paste type sealer for the gasket to stick to the pump and the block? Isnt it not good to just throw it on without that sealant?

How did you check the tension on the serpentine belt? Worried I'll get mine too tight or too loose I don't know how to check it.

The metal coolant pipe is out of place and blocking my valve cover so I wanted to scrub through this to get a better view of where it’s supposed to be. I got the VC off but I still guess that’ll have to be fixed to avoid future issues

I am at the point of removing the mechanical fan housing for more room. Mine appears to be larger (1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport). I removed the two screws but cant get the housing past the fan and the radiator core. Any suggestions?

ok I have a 2001 jeep Cherokee classic 4.0 and it is heating up to 210 then shutting off like it is vapor locking - I have to sit until it cools before it will start again - I replaced the radiator cap and the heat sensor on the thermostat housing - my fan clutch is tight and seems to be working - no leaks from my radiator or water pump - any ideas ?

Replaced my t-stat, was overheating , flushed system, and still did it, water pump doesnt leak or squeal, could it be bad with no other symptoms? Before I take to the shop,
