98-02 Accord Transmission Removal

Күн бұрын2000 Honda Accord 2.3 liter with an automatic transmission removal procedure. This kid just bought this Accord about a month ago from a used car dealer and the transmission went out and would not replace it so I am helping him out with the work. The transmission fluid was disguting and had metal shavings throughout it. This does have the BAXA transmission as well. The torque specs for the axle nuts are 181 ft lbs. Use only Honda Transmission fluid as well because it will not shift as good if you do use this fluid.

You just saved me hours of work coming up, gonna be doing this same thing in a few days and now i know what to do and what NOT to do. That what "NOT" to do is the key to a job like this. My transmission went bad from the differential going out and now transmission is basically fried. This here looks way easier to do than i had in mind... thank you for the video.

Your welcome and it is not as bad of a job as most people would imagine. The axle nuts tend to be one of the harder things for people to remove.

@@operationoverhaul originally I figured it would be a nightmare, but from watching this video it won't be bad. I have a impact for those axel nuts, so those will be a breeze for me. My biggest issue is I don't have a large floor jack, but I do have a overhead hoist to lower the transmission, and I'll use my regular floor jack with board to hold the engine up. A bit different but with the same results... thanks again.

Thanks for this have an 00 accord that I'm going to do a trans swap it's at 230k miles ran like a champ until the trans gave out got a JDM import trans for 800 bucks with less than 60k on it and your video is going to help me make this champ run like new again

Great info in the vid, sadly, I cam to see how you actually dropped the tranns like the whole part you did off camera. I just rebuilt and reinstalled my MAXA but must have put the reverse lock up gear in upsidedown because I have everything but reverse. Swapped the reverse lockup solinoid a known good one hoping that might have been it but no dice. I pulled the whole engine/tranns as a unit from the top as I was replacing the engine, so learning how to pull it from the bottom would have been helpful. Onward to more vids.

After unbolting everything it literally just slides back and you can lower it down. You actually have a decent amount of room to do it.

I only did the removal process as it is the reversal of the removal. But, the V6 is a little different from the 4 cylinders. If you need work instructions I could send some to you via email.

For some reason I can't break the transmission from the moter it's like it's stuck maybe can u help???

It may be stuck on the dowels that line up the engine and transmission together. They can corrode and make them stick.

Do u think if I get a 98 accord’s transmission and put it into a 01 accord there’s going to b problems or no

So when I look up for a transmission on these, I found that the 98-99 were listed together, the 2000 was all by itself, and the the 01+ were together. So I'm thinking something is different like the electronic mostly. I'll look up what the difference is. I think the bellhousing is the same so they would connect just the wiring harness would probably be different but let me check and I'll get back with you asap.

@@operationoverhaul hey so I did end up swapping the transmission from the 98 accord to the 01 accord it’s was working fine but then the transmission would start slipping again and wouldn’t shift good do you think I would have to clean the solenoids please let me know

@@660htxraptor5 so I looked it up tonight actually and did not see a difference electronically. So I think they are the same and I would drain the fluid at minimum to see if any debris is in there then if that looked good I would check the solenoids. Are there any codes?

@Baked Life420 I had my wife help me by pulling it to the side. If you do not have anyone you can tie it back with a bungee cord.

Hi, what are the electrical wires you had to remove with it ?

They were the wires running to the range sensor/gear selector switch. The sensor should be behind that metal cover

Ok so I am having an issue where it doesn’t like shifting in 1-2 gear, if I manually shift it, it will shift. I’m coming to terms with I need to replace the transmission…. Any other things before?

Does it have any transmission codes on it and have you tried anything yet? Just checking to see if you have performed any repairs to it to help me narrow it down.

yeah, this is the same basic concept as the cb7. I owned a cb7 for a while and personally I think that they are easier than this generation.

Hardest part will be the axles if you do not have air tools or an electric impact to remove the nuts. You can use a long breaker bar, then thread the lug nuts back on, then use a pry bar or something against the nuts to break the axle nut loose. They have a decent amount of torque on them. Then, just double check all you bolts are out before prying on anything. I would drain the fluid first as well. Other than that just lower it down slowly and watch your hands. Alot of pinch points on those cars.

I’m taking my trans out my 02 Honda can u tell me how u get that one bolt behind the engine it’s connect to the back motor mont the only bolt I can’t get and I t’s holding the trans from coming out

Check to make sure your motor and transmission mounts are good.

What bolts on the back of the transmission 98 honda accord did you take off to drop it

There is a mount on the back of the transmission about where the engine and trans meet. Then it has a cover for the torque converter and shifter on the bottom/ back. Then the bellhousing bolts.

This would be the same process basically as removing the transmission but you will also have to remove the flywheel/flexplate and change the rear main seal.

The engine oil leak was coming from the valve cover gasket and it had a power steering leak.

And also Instead of using regular wrenchis just buy ratchet wrenchis it would save u alot of time
