I have done a few of these to replace the knock sensors. To make the cleaning job easier, I first use a shop vac, scraper, and wire brush to first remove the dirt. If you remove the dirt first, the oil comes off real easy with brake cleaner. If you hit the dirt with brake cleaner first, it makes the dirt into a muddy slurry and it takes so much longer.

Awesome walkthrough! I really needed it. I picked up a 05 Z71 Suburban 5.3 with 217k miles and I have an oil leak. I believed it was the oil pan gasket. After replacement, I still have a minor oil leak. Now I have a list of parts to get the job done. There is nothing worse than doing a job and missing something small needed to do the job correctly. Thank you!

Of course i come across this video AFTER i had my intake manifold off to replace my cam position sensor, oil pressure switch and knock sensors all in the same search for that elusive oil leak from the back of the engine. Replaced everything you spoke of except the valley pan gasket amd still have my leak. Time to do it again.

That's very encouraging! The way you describe yourself, you and I are about the same physically and agewise. You're a little younger. So I ought to be able to do this job. I only wish I was at home with my garage, instead of 1150 miles away in an apartment. It's a lot easier when you can just stop and clean up and go to bed and then resume in the morning. Here, you can't leave parts and tools lying around, or they'll walk off. Heck, the whole truck almost walked off one night. I wish it had! If I'd known I was going to have so much trouble with this truck, I would left it unlocked with the door open and the key in the ignition. A thief deserves such problems, but not me!

Man my 2000 silverado with 215,000 miles looked exactly like yours with rodent feces and gulf coast sand included. I cleaned mine just as you described with a toothbrush , B12, and paper napkins and some mystery oil when the fumes got too heavy all the while trying to keep debris out of the intake ports. I thought I had a rear main seal leak but now that I look further there seems to be oil on the back of the transmission.

Haven't checked in here for quite a while. I no longer own this old truck, my middle son is now the owner and it's still going strong the last time I checked. Made it all the way to Utah from California, then back and forth from Utah to California and then from Utah to Missouri. It's still a beater, but does what he needs it to do.

Question when you removed the valley cover and you said the coolent bypass pipes did they leak when you disconnect them???? Will I need to add more coolant? I'm replacing the oil pressure sensor, camshaft position sensor, knock sensors and wire harness, Valley pan gasket. And valve cover gaskets. I already did the intake manifold gasket last year. I would love to get everything cleaned up.

Recently had my valley cover gasket replaced but they used the old coolant bypass lines. Worst of all they didnt put the metal spacers/gaskets back. Im pretty sure one of the ports is leaking significantly now. Could that be a possible problem for electrical issues at the back of the block? Considering thats where the engine ground is?

He still has it, but hasn't mentioned any leaks, so maybe it's still good. Regarding the gaskets, I'll see if I have any records on them, but I just moved and are most likely gone. If I find them I'll reply here when I do.

@agvideo9504
@agvideo9504 4 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing you mean caked with dirt? Oil leaking from somewhere, maybe cover gaskets and then dirt and dust sticking to it would be my guess. Valve cover gaskets are an easy job if you're doing the rest of what I did in this video.
