'Britain, ask of thyself' one of the songs written in the 'Coronation Ode,' a work composed by Sir Edward Elgar. This piece was written to celebrate the coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, which took place on August 9, 1902. This ode is also the origin of the song 'Land of Hope and Glory'
The "Coronation Ode" is a grand choral composition in which Elgar collaborated with the poet and playwright A.C. Benson. The lyrics for 'Britain, ask of thyself' reflect on the duty and destiny of the British nation. They used to be the greatest empire on earth, man. Just after the Romans before they were succeeded by the Americans who are the greatest of all.
