I’m from Australia, so I never heard of Mr Rogers, but I watched this movie lastnight and it made me wish I grew up watching his show. He seemed to be just about the most nicest, caring, kind-hearted person, from what I’ve learnt about him and his show. And reached out to a lot of kids (and adults) in need, emotionally/mentally. Just like the movie shows, with the character of Lloyd. How to deal with his emotions in a good and positive way. Especially when it comes to anger. Sometimes holding on can be more harmful for ourselves, than letting go.

I don't think Fred Rogers was religious either. I know he loved the Lord and he understood that there is evil in this world. Evil that can make people turn away from God's love and do sad, bad things that hurt others. So, he set out to show and tell about love; God's kind of love in every way he could. Hoping people would turn in the direction of love. The love Jesus has for them, the way we can love each other and the way we should love ourselves :)

Fun Fact: The last scene of the people on the subway singing the theme song actually happened in real life. He was in New York City and he couldn't find a taxi so he went on the subway. He was trying to not get any attention from anyone. There was a diverse crowd and school children. They didn't ask for an autograph or anything, they just sang. That's how wholesome Mr. Rogers is. ( edit: everyone in the comments saying obviously that happened because it’s a biopic about him, well some biopics exaggerate the story, while this is genuine)

I moved to Pittsburgh, and one summer I did some research on Fred Rogers to try and chase down a rumor around town. I didn't ever find confirmation the rumored thing had happened. What I did discover, startlingly, was that of every childhood icon I'd ever looked into in detail, Fred's the only one where when I pulled back the layers, there was just more Fred behind the scenes. The man he portrayed on the screen was, apparently, just a direct reflection of him. He had a mission, and he pursued it, and in a way, I think he succeeded.

I just watched this tonight, and immediately after, I searched for the Esquire article and read the whole thing aloud to myself. I put off watching this film for a good long while, because I just felt it wasn't the time, and now it is. After all the worries and uncertainties our present circumstances have thrown upon us I needed soothing, a reminder and even a lesson or two about how to go through my days with a bit more grace, a bit more kindness, a bit more patience, a bit more compassion, and a lot more gratitude. Mr. Rogers was just a man. Flawed, like the rest of us. What set him apart was the conscious effort he made to listen to his better angels and to find ways to battle his worse demons without hurting others or himself like "punching a lump of clay" of swimming as fast as he could. I'm trying to find my own way, but there are still plenty of times when I fail. I can still be a bit too prideful, or get upset over little things. Sometimes anger just bubbles up inside me and I lash out in release. I am a work in progress and will always be, but Mr. Rogers has shown me that that's ok. Thank you Mr. Rogers.

Certainly. If there was ever an actor who could convincingly portray an icon like Fred Rogers, it's Tom Hanks. One more thing. If they ever made a biopic on Jim Henson, who do you think is the best actor for Jim?

I remember seeing this trailer when I went to see a movie in theatres with my family (forgot which one exactly) but I vividly remember feeling so happy and uplifted by this trailer. Particularly at the end where my mom (who was a seat to my right) cried happy tears. To get that kind of emotion out of a trailer takes skill and a whole lotta heart. Well done.

I could imagine a rough neighborhood with shootings everyday and in the ghetto people are dealing drugs left and right. The moment this man shows up, everyone big ego and tough act softens for this man because they know he means more than all the guns and drugs in the world. Even people who dont watch him understand the joy he brings to people. Kids show or even less, this man means the world to some.

@@timjohnson8820 Its true, they even stole both sets of his famous shoes at the time. After that attack, in one episode instead of changing into his usual trainers, he puts on BLACK SLIPPERS! Not many people know this, but in the late 60's it was a hidden symbolic gesture to wear black slippers meant you were a supporter of the KKK. Black slippers were common in a few TV shows around the time.and symbolised death to blacks! I wonder if the movie brings this up?

@Curtis Tisberger So I've done the research and as the guy above mentions. You are full of bullshit. Mr. Rodger's kindess, empathy, sympathy and just love towards children was held with suspicion. But that was because they associated it with his middle name "McFeely". Sure if you didn't know that was his middle name, and you come across "Mister McFeely" deals with children, people will get the wrong idea. Also, I'm not sure you're even familiar with the song "Mr. Rodgers" by Korn Jonathan Winters. He basically calls out Mister Rodgers and calls him a "child fucker". However, due to him being influenced by Mr. Rodgers show, he thought everyone was as kind as he was and guess what? He ended up getting molested by a neighbor. So he wasn't necessarily blaming Mr. Rodgers, he just didn't know where to direct that pent up frustration and put it upon Mr. Rodgers. Aside from all that, I just came across "proof" of him teaching kids the middle finger, and all the videos and proof of him being a pedophile coincidentally don't happen to exists or have been "removed" by some unknown reason 🤔. They even went ahead and posted his Congress meet and titled it "Rodger's DEEP love for children". So, if something happens to be incorrect in my comment. Go ahead and correct it and prove me wrong. :)

I think the entire cast in this was really great. Tremendous work and a real homage to Mr. Fred Rogers. I watched him in the early days....early 70s....He had such a way with kids didn't he? A way to explain the complex things of the world in terms a child can understand. We certainly could use him today.
