*Bought as a gift for my son and his second grade son to use on a Pinewood Derby car. Wanted something relatively safe and able to be packed away when not in use. Worked well. **MyBest.Tools** Easy to use and set up. Case provides good storage.*

Howdy Ryan. Nice job on the fence and the flip stop. I too have slots in my drill press table and they are forever clogging with chips. I really like your modifications. Nice simple design. Great Job. Thanks for posting the build and Yes, I like the flip stop for the fence.

I can’t wait to try this at home. Just towards the begin you called it a bevel you cut on your table saw. It was actually a Chamfer.

Great design. I'll be keeping this in mind for my own drill press. And the flip stop is also very nice, but I'll have to find another way to make one. Thanks for sharing!

I have been watching a lot of videoes on KZfaq about building a drill press table. What surprises me most is that almost all of them are built with keeping the fence square to the drill press table. This does add a lot of complexity in making the drill press table. I do not think that you need to do this. You only need to worry about the distance from the center of the drill bit to the edge of the fence. Take a look at my video "Build an easy drill press guide" and I would be interested in hearing your comments about my design. I have responded to a lot of other videos with this same idea and have not heard back from a single one yet. My design does not have a dust collection system.

We have the almost exact same design flip stop that comes with hobby style table saws but it's made from steel, they work great and as a plus you can use them with aluminium profiles such as 2020/6020 etc. Great fence, I think it's time for an upgrade

Maybe cut off that 90* corner where the stop nests into the fence and table? That way dust and chips don’t interfere with the accuracy. Can also add a chamfer to the bottom edge of the fence for the same purpose. Just an idea. I may have to use this fence clamp idea on my shop made fences for my router table. Chips always clog that track.

I really like the way that your fence locks to the table. I bought a commercial fence/table for my drill press that uses the t - track method. Like you mentioned, the tracks keep getting clogged. It's also a nuisance taking the fence off and reinstalling it. Yours look much nicer.

Pretty slick. On my drill press table, my fence is bolted on one corner so that the fence pivots in an arc, instead of sliding horizontally. Less fuss; same net effect.

For router tables and drill presses - I like fences that pivot rather than slide. Much simpler - a screw on one end and just a hand clamp on the other. You can dial in very precise distances from the cutter by tapping the unfastened end.

Nice design and i also liked the old one as well, perhaps if the t-tracks either side were only half the size, you might not have a problem with those chips, basically place the t-tracks level either side of the middle, where the chuck hits the table when pulled all the way down. (hope you understood that ha ha ha) When you are using the gluebot place the red cover on top of the big yellow lid, that has the yellow bit in it that's were it goes when not in use, which saves the rubber band swinging around. I see you can see good trough the doors with the coolant on an idea take a motor from a hard drive and place it in a door replace the disks with a circle of your door materiaal the motors rpm is 5000 to 7200 so when the is spinning nothing will stick to it than you have a nice viewport like the big cnc machine's have greetings from Belgium carlo

Nice new fence. Very similar to a Shopsmith fence. Like the flip stop mechanism. However, (you asked) I’m curious why there is space between the stop and the fence when the stop is down? Seems to have more of a point than flat? It works well though and that’s what’s important!

Interested! Plans please! Best drill press set up I’ve seen, really wish this was already on mine. I’m upgrading my CNC right now and using the drill press to cut a ton of holes in aluminum plates and this would be huge for me right now! I have a bunch of 1.5x1.5 80/20 so I might try to use that for the fence part.

Just a quick note, when you use the table saw to cut a bevel on a long piece, why not use a fence extender to support your work and stop it from wobbling. I made an auxiliary fence that fits over the table saw fence and locks using t bolts from the side.

Nice fence fix. I like the design. I can't help but think that the stop is much too expensive and could be made less costly as a stamped metal part or even as a flame cut part. Yours is pretty and expensive; I'd prefer functional and less expensive.

@michaellinahan7740

Ryan, Like a router the drill press fence is only there to set the distance to the bit . Unlike the table saw where the fence must be parallel to the blade. On my router table I have a couple of pivot point holes drilled and the fence is clamped to the table once the angle (and hence distance) is set. I must admit I hadn't thought about it for the drill press but may now give it a go. Like you I have both metal and wood machines but only a manual mill and so the green monster surfaces. Have you considered making a metal version of your kerf maker on the new toy? Regards
@Shopbuilt
@Shopbuilt 6 жыл бұрын
+Michael Linahan I actually was considering a pivot setup as well. A kerfmaker would be a pretty easy build but to be honest I don't think I ever used my wooden on. Just seems easier to creep up on a dado to get a nice fit.
