This is also, in my opinion, the greatest asset of any country that chooses to incorporate it as national policy. Many times, when governments are replaced by totalitarian ones, the first to flee are those who disagree with the new regime and have the influence to be a threat. Often, they are intelligent and educated enough to see the signs that they are in danger before the revolution. As a result, nations that are open to refugees get an influx of intelligent, educated Middle and upper class individuals who are motivated to repay their debt to the country that saved their lives simply by letting them in. While social conflict can result from the new competition and differences in cultural values, the technological innovations brought via dialogue between people with different world views often compensates in both economic and military avenues. As an example, throughout the majority of its existence the USA has had a (relatively) open door policy on refugees. This has changed in the past 50 years, but even now, the USA is listed as second on the Global Innovation Index according to the World Inellectual Property Organization. First place is Switzerland while third and fourth are the United Kingdom and Netherlands respectively. Countries that are intolerant of refugees, in contrast, are more likely to struggle with innovation which in turn can limit their national power technologically, and economically. With global trade, you need to be able to access markets of cultures different from your own. Having executives and strategists who come from those cultures can help with how best to market and tailor services and products for the target country. The strategies for selling hand lotion in one country may easily fail in another. Diversity of cultures within a country, while a source of conflict, can be a nation's pathway to success.

The idea that the first people to declare china had me cracking up because in most stories I hear involving aliens or fanfics (mostly fanfics) it’s always china that goes “fuck you! Fight me!” I don’t even understand it, is it a stereotype I wasn’t aware of or something? Either way it’s a stereotype I have now, just a angry Asian going “fuck you!”
