There was as similar one I heard. I doubt I could find it quickly, but it would be nice if a link could be posted by someone who does find it. It may be a new theme in the genre where humans through our "unique" cross species pack bonding make allies and friends out of left-out species, usually upgrading their tech level at the same time. At some point the big players who influence most of the medium players decide to attack the annoying medium player Humanity who punches above their weight technologically, economically, and/or militarily. The Humans would be outmatched except for a vast network of befriended species and peoples coming to our aid.

That line at the end, do they call the shield Corbonite maneuver? Lol Kinetic inversion like that is pretty powerful but I'd fear the power output of such a huge system in prolonged engagement but if it is efficiently a 1 to 1 conversion then you have a decent chance to hit a target with its own attack unless it is kinetic to voltaic in which would make a little more sense (if not extremely more confusing as good luck trying to figure out how to make a piezoelectric shield that builds charge like that) in which case it is some kind of directional EMP and you potentially only need to keep the field stabilized till it triggers and explodes but then you need to have multiple layers or it will be vulnerable to a second wave of you aren't packing multiple projectors and have some way to prepare the next one inside and/or outside the field of effect without destabilizing the other. Even then it might not be stable instantly because it would need to go between the layers with some crazy quantum mechanics. Very cool, very effective, and probably modular to decide whether or not you want it to explode or just disperse the energy to be more efficient than this sounds like it would be in a larger skirmish. While I know that the shield I have envisioned before and mentioned in a few of these wouldn't work as a planetary shield, I still want to see a kinetic shield attached to an inertia inhibitor and the whole frame of a fighter, weaker shots and lasers might have some slip through so the armor would need to be built around that, but I still want to see a fighter get hit by a mass driver and go flying like a bouncy ball because the whole vehicle was put through the energy transfer to the maximum stress load of the hull and dampener before it let the shell through the barrier, just see the fighters playing bumper cars with dreadnought because the entire mass of the fighter gets deflected away while the dreadnought gets pummeled with a car crash essentially.

It's a good story but just one thing bugs me about it Why didn't the aliens just surrender? They didn't break any rules of war yet so some could have flees with their lives

They were given the opportunity to surrender when they arrived, and refused. Afterward is too late. They saw no need to flee before they fired, and couldn't flee after their fire rebounded and disabled their ships.
