Humans pack bond with their creations, particularly small, frail sub-units. We are their source of tender, loving care, of purpose. We also clean out their bit-buckets, resetting them and maintaining them, so their eternal quest to be helpful (see Good Boy protocols) does not fray their circuits. Don't forget to give your FPS (Find/Protect/Serve) drone units downtime..

My favorite part is that we humans pack bond with rumbas that the people who sell them tell us that we can pay a warranty to have them fixed and then send back instead of getting a new one because people bond with them

@@corinthiansdaniels3728 That my, friend,is what happens when you have a good build up and experience brainfart. Essentially,I wanted X'lia to realise from an outsiders perspective that humans were struggling against a force that they could never hope to stop or control, and yet by our very nature we would slowly start finding ways to more effectively fight back against organic and inorganic adversaries. Fire being one of them. And then I hit a mental brick wall at mach 4 and settled for an event to trigger his realisation that I wasn't entirely happy with. The bravery of firefighters also plays a role but I feel like that's across the broader story

A note: Vtol is more properly VTOL, pronounced Vee-tol. It's the acronym used for Vertical TakeOff and Landing. The Harrier jet is a current example of the tech.

7:02 I mean, not creatures _of,_ just the event itself. Our plant life is flammable, burns a while, and _produces_ oxygen. Add to that the warer vapor clouds that produce monstrously huge and deafeningly loud discharges of electricity, called lightning, several dozen times per storm, and one little lightning bolt hits a tree and the whole forest goes ablaze sending even our most vicious wildlife fleeing from the absurdly hot, absurdly fast-spreading wave of inferno that is a Forest Fire. we used to build our houses mostly from trees, and fire is very useful for producing heat, so yes, we used to have open flame within a house made of flammable material, swimming in an atmosphere of 21% oxygen.

Any species that looks at us as savages who only enjoy bloodshed should see the lengths we will go to in order to save children. And they should see our tears when we fail. That child was barely 2 lines and some imagination, and yet I could picture the singed firefighter running out of the blaze and towards the medics, I could see them begin chest compressions and forcing oxygen into her lungs. And I could hear the tattletale sound of a flatline. And finaly, I could see the medics stepping back, in acceptance that they werent quick enough. I could see the fireman, slowly leaning against his engine, as he came to terms with the fact that you cant save everyone, And knowing that doesnt make it any easier.

As a firefighter in my younger years I got a kick out of the authors use of an outsider observing the eternal battle humans have been fighting sense humanity had started planning crops. Good story 👍

Definitely a loyal drone/dog(?). But one with a little too much determination. Sorry about your station. Back in my Navy days in the late 1970's my ship sent me to the Navy's firefighting school 3 times, each time to learn how to fight a different type of fire. Yeah, you get up close and personal with fire and you'd better know what you're doing, it's dangerous.

probably programmed to return it's lost owner home in case of an emergency no matter what damage it sustains. a classic no limit flaw, where to continue it's search it must not die and instead grow to cover more ground.

First story: A bit abrupt ending but heart wrenching. Poor little might lost his pet human. Second story: Wrong conclusion. No one can win against fire. We can deny the Beast living victims, maybe, in some cases, but that's about it. We are NOT winning. We are still at the mercy of the elements. We have gotten pretty good at hiding from their usual expressions, but we have no answer to their extremes. We are not lords and masters here, we are barely surviving. Hanging on by our increasingly numb and tired finger tips, which are slipping, while idiots are wrestling about "power". Soon we will fear the night again. soon we will again be food for the wolf and the bear. Soon we will again hunt with stone weapons, paying in lives the meat we now enjoy freely. We have forgotten our truth. so.. we will lose our treasures. It is inevitable. It was inevitable, the moment we started shielding our children from the truth. We screwed with natural selection, so now its screwing back at us. We forgot that everything must serve life. The continuation of it and the betterment of it. Death cults are not a survival tool.

Why would a limited ai drone that is looking for its controller attack pirates? That makes zero logical sense and does not achieve anything for his primary goal. Not to mention even an advanced ai would have great trouble actually identifying left alone defining piracy as it is a fairly nuanced concept. HFY writers really need to stop using generic pirates as standard goons that get wiped out in a half sentence in their stories especially if there is no reasons for them to be in a story.

If one of its primary directives was protection, if anything was attacking a human construct that would violate its directives. As an ai it wouldn’t treat symptoms, the random pirate ships, it would treat the cause, pirate bases in the region. It is logical.

Aggro accidentally skipped the event where pirates attacked the drone, so the next section about destroying the pirates makes sense with that context as it was acting in self defense while searching.

Reread the story, the Drone found his home base but it was abandoned, so while it sat there waiting, pirates would come to loot the place and the Drone was trying to keep his home safe for when it’s human returns
