@@matthrew Neither tectonic nor terralith add new blocks, main issue is if they’re compatible with Biomes you’ll go/biomes o plenty

I have a 512 render distance in DH, 32 distance on the vanilla setting, the same shader as thee video and I'm sitting around 100fps with a 3080 and 5600x, higher in small areas and lower if I fly around. DH requires Sodium which improves performance dramatically

It's kind of crazy how used to low render distance we've got. Looking into the horizon and just seeing void and just going 'yep' for 12 years

@@xmcblxck well distant horizons mod isn't equal to just setting 128 chunks to load, its specific system to render less details in far, but so it still looks ok

@@xmcblxck The way distant horizons works is that the far away chunks aren't actually loaded. It saves the last known appearance of them in a cheap to render format. While a low/mid-range pc would struggle with shaders, you could still run a 'render' distance that's insane compared to vanilla.

Could see it being done in the future but not with current MC Java

Same here. I rarely feel excited about anything anymore, but this took me back to those early days playing the browser demo on the Minecraft website. So exciting seeing the mountains in the distance with the ambience from the shaders. Feels like a world I can get lost in again instead of a simulation where I understand all the rules.

No it literally isn't. All it does is increase render distance by adding LOD, something games have been doing for ages. An actual mod worthy of that title would be create mod.

@@Zyrexia imo quality of life mods and optimization mods are so much more technically impressive since even the billion dollar company that develops minecraft doesn't add stuff but they add content all the time. Plus its harder to optimize something that already exists than create a new thing entirely

BECAUSE ITS HAARDDD you have NO clue how hard LOD is in a game like minecraft. for it to be effective and performant, you'd need to change how chunk loading works to make it better than loading 600 chunks at once. the only reason LOD exists outside of the box is because the game engine itself supports it. minecraft does not support LOD, so it's way harder for modders to add it in.

Modding communities thrive on bringing life to old games, and minecraft easily has the strongest modding community of them all. It's not going anywhere any time soon.

It feels more like it’s reached a new milestone with all the work put in by the community It feels like it’s taking a step back and looking at how far it came

The music and beautiful scenery definitely add that wistful nostalgia. But I hope this will be the beginning of a new chapter for Minecraft. Seeing these mods being used on SMP servers and in adventure modpacks will be so cool.

The seed is available so you can do it yourself. Our family has been playing along in the hermitcraft seed since season 10 started. It is fun seeing the place where your house or farm is in a hermit's video. Was running iris alphas and dh nightly yesterday and exploring. I usually use bobby with as much render distance as my machine can handle. That looks great at ground level for regular game play . DH+iris is going to be incredible when it matures and there is wider shader support but it is probably more suited to single player for now. I burned through stacks of rockets trying to load chunks in off the server.

@@shirro5 I was just giving him some video ideas, also i am talking about S9 wdl and not s10 seed, which means the builds by hermits will be there and you can see far and wide, connecting the various builds see the scale of builds and stuff. you know what i mean :)

@@m3zmr Why not? Mojang constantly takes good mods and integrates them into the game, or at the very least rips off the ideas of mods and integrates them all the time. Why would a better lag-free render distance bump be a bad update for them to add?

No, then it wouldn't be open-source. Part of the reason distant horizons has been developed so quickly is because of the volunteers working on it.

Ah, yes. Mojang known for their quick work and consistency updating things. I'd love them to have control of the only LOD mod for the game. Definitely. 🙃
