I swear the first time I went to the cinema alone changed my mf life... now I love doing stuff alone and taking myself places, I don't have to worry about other people being free or not doing exactly what they want to do, it's so freeing and relaxing!!

"The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas" can also be found in the collection The Wind's Twelve Quarters and The Compass Rose by Le Guin, which is so much easier to find in bookstores. Hope you enjoy it!

going on me-dates is one of my favourite passtimes! like taking myself out to the cinema or for lunch, a couple of weeks ago i went to den haag by myself to visit the kunstmuseum and bookstores there and just look at the architecture. today i wanted to go to amsterdam by myself but didnt feel well enough, so i'll probably go later this week and this gives me some good inspiration to know what to do there! 7:42 Also, some time ago i read The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin. It was interesting, i recommend it! And actually, the collection with The Wind's Twelve Quarter on that shelf does in fact also include The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas (i know bc i bought it recently because of that lol)

Have you read Midwinterblood by Marcus Sedgwick? It's inspired by Swedish painter Carl Larson's painting Midvinterblot, which is part of a group of his works on permanent(?) display in one of the Swedish museums. The backstory of the real painting is amazing! I read the book first, then looked up the painting and it blew me away!! This is just SUCH an amazing book, only about 275 pages and it pulled me right out of a reading slump!! Plus I think it's a good one for fantasy readers, romance readers, just everyone!😉 That day trip you had is a dream for me!! Of course, I'm in the U.S. so definitely more than a half hour!😆 Thank you for another fun video! I always look forward to seeing what new adventure you're up to!!🤗

I love spending a day out exploring on my own! Great video. Iron Widow is also on my TBR. Regarding The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas, it is a really great short story. It’s often studied in American Literature classes, and you should be able to find it on line to read for free. I understand if you want to wait and find the book though, she’s a really fascinating writer and her short stories are always very interesting and make you think! Thanks for sharing your adventure!

I love what Julia Cameron (The Artist's Way) calls artist's dates - a solo expedition to feed your soul. I often meet my daughter for lunch in London but get there ahead of time and walk around and then head to a cafe after our lunch before going to the theatre - lovely - got one planned this week! I've recently discovered Sarah Moss - she's excellent at getting inside characters' heads and giving them their individual voices, but I haven't read Ghost Wall yet. Amsterdam is a great place - I went there three years ago but can honestly say I've never been so cold - and I'm from the UK! Great video!

It also took me a bit to dare do stuff by myself but I also enjoy it a lot and don't feel uncomfortable about it anymore. Especially with be being a nurse and doing night- and weekend shifts it isn't always easy to get together with friends that work Mo-Fri. And now I got a little one as well. So when I am off work and she is at Kindergarten, I am out there enjoying life by browsing through book stores and devouring delicious food :D I will be in A-dam in mid May and will definitely check out these two book stores. My husband told me they will just drop me off there and go Sightseeing :D Oh yeah. Romance books. Not really into them but I might give Tessa Bailey a chance.

I am trying to do more things on my own, but I'm starting small so far. I am interested in seeing what you think of Ghost Wall. Personally I didn't like it, the way it was written really didn't work for me. I too love The Yellow Wallpaper, and that is a nice edition, and the one beside it on the shelf has so much of her writing and I would actually recommend that particular one. The stories throughout it isn't like The Yellow Wallpaper but they are still good and good reads as well.

Aw I really liked Farenheit 451. The emotion was there, even if the worldbuilding wasn't. It got the point across better to me than 1984 because I really felt the despair of living in a world like that. Kind of more like a short story than a full on book tho.

Ursula Le Guin fan here. I dont know if those book stores are categorising books purely by genre or by author, but with finding Volume 2, try checking Sci fi rather than more speculative fiction areas. Volume 1 is pure speculative while Volume 2 plays up the Sci fi/surreal world's that Le Guin does so beautifully!

Thanks for the video. I've been to Amsterdam a few times but it has been a while. I was supposed to go again recently but Covid lockdowns intervened. I've read Ghost Wall. It's a interesting read. You think it is going to be one kind of book and then it becomes something else. I'd recommend Lolly Willowes by Sylvia Townsend Warner as a book that does something similar, but perhaps even more drastically.
