I have never played Warframe, nor do I really intend to. I clicked on this video because I was bemused by the length and the self-aware title. I'm about 2 hours and 20 minutes in, and I've gotta say your cadence and humour have kept me entertained, despite me having no interest in the game. I also deeply respect the well thought out rantings of a veteran player, as being a decade and a half RuneScape player, I've amassed many opinions about my own game and community. I couldn't imagine the work organising those into one coherent, entertaining and directed video like you have, but I imagine it would've been deeply cathartic. Hats off.

I actually like the trading system specifically because it's more involved and requires actual interaction with other people. The trades aren't done with faceless entities, you're dealing with actual people. Makes it feel more like an MMO and that you're not completely isolated, which is a feature not many have these days due to forgoing social interaction in the name of convenience.
@Malurth
@Malurth 3 жыл бұрын
this is a good point actually. I have felt the sting of 'cumbersome' multiplayer interaction get streamlined out of existence (MHW, WoW for two examples) and the side effect of that is it also streamlines out social interaction, which is super lame and makes the games feel a lot more hollow. I don't feel the same way about warframe trading personally since I just wanna get the trade done whereas those other 2 examples have you playing through content with those people, but I can respect being into actual social interaction for sure.

And most importantly, you are an objective thinker. Someone who can look at the good and the bad; the outro of the video bringing the viewer to make their own conclusion on whether or not it's worth their time or patience. I hope this video does well. @@Malurth One could probably make a video almost as long about some of the aesthetic and thematic elements of the game as well. There's a pirate warframe with an ability called plunder that... strips armor? It's the grim reaper themed one that makes things drop more loot. There's several frames with horns but they thought the most iconic thing they could have slapped on Rhino is hooves. I don't know how they seem to be really thoughtful about certain things and then just miss brain-dead easy ideas to implement.

Great video! The voiceover is actually really well done and spoken naturally, and Warframe's systems are interesting enough that the video never got dull. I appreciate the insight from such a veteran player. It's funny, but due to your spin-to-win tactics shown throughout the video, my ultimate impression of Warframe combat ultimately consists of spinning like a maniac and not much more.

Thank you for this magnificent video. As a year old player I definitely learned a few things that I desperately needed as well as what to avoid if I don't want to waste my time. However you said they deleted DNA decay and loyalty in companions but as a console player I still have to do this. What gives? As for the quality of the video: its charming, witty and overall very informative. Joseph Anderson would be proud.
@Malurth
@Malurth 3 жыл бұрын
dna decay/loyalty still exist, but they've patched it enough that it's mostly completely ignorable. once you get the incubator upgrade segment DNA decay goes to 0%, and for loyalty only kubrows have to deal with it and all it does is nerf their attack damage if you let it slip. since the kubrows all suck and I don't expect my companion to be doing any noticeable damage anyway this means I also completely ignore that mechanic. and thanks for the kind words my dude :)

(Just some thoughts I felt like putting out there) 18:55 If you *_hold_* the *jump key* instead of spamming it, you can vertically climb those walls without much issue. 21:55 I find it weird we have health types like cloned flesh when they never come into play at all since they require you to strip all armor using corrosive/heat. (corrosive can't even strip all of the armor by itself anymore, and it's not even worth doing since it's so counterintuitive) 51:24 Interestingly enough, some prime frames can be obtained earlier than their standard counterparts, as they usually don't have MR requirements. 58:00 Also, some of the crafting requirements make no sense at all. To build the Twin Basolk (Grineer axes) you need to first build the Dual Zoren, a pair of _Tenno_ axes, which breaks lore. Where do the Kunai knives go when you build the Tipedo staff? Why do you need a shotgun to build a cannon? Why on earth would you need a _rifle_ to build a melee?? The first real problem I had with the video was in the new player experience section where you spammed melee in front of the specter that was blocking your attacks. Isn't that the Phobos Junction? Even if progress is especially difficult in the game, one shouldn't be using a Braton at that point. (Also, junctions are just poorly implemented. The Rhino and Valkyr specters are much more difficult than the rest. For example, the first specter, Rhino, is _clearly_ superior to the Volt specter, despite being lower level) I feel like the credits system would be bearable early on if you didn't have to fork over a ridiculous amount before starting a build. It can cost 30K to buy a blueprint, but it also costs 100K to actually build it, without any explanation given. The foundry is an old system, and I hope they change this. 1:05:42 Auras add capacity because the game wants the encourage their use since they provide beneficial effects for the rest of the squad. I don't know about stances though. 1:49:52 The third option (magnetizing) isn't bad, as it only requires you to wait sixty seconds (shorter than Freezing which makes you wait a minute+). The result is that it causes a complete blackout, preventing enemies from being able to hit you. 2:12:00 Fortuna is marked by a rising cloud of dark smoke. So look for that while up in the air. Great review. Also, some of these clips are really old lol.

Info for console players on 0:25. The console Wersion of Warframe from my experience on the PS4 is essentialy the same, you can even play it with a mouse and keyboard, and you have the same graphics settings options as on PC (resolution settings, gpu particle settings...) The only real difference that you should expect is that most updates will come after their release on PC (1 to 4 weeks later) and they will generally come as one big content update instead of many smaller updates. Xbox Warframe is also the same game as on PC and PS4. On Nintendo however it is not graphicaly the same as on the other 3 platforms, but it is still one of the best looking Switch games you can find.

I'd like it mentioned that there used to be a Void Key system in place of Void Relics. What they did was give you access to a specific tiered mission in The Void that you had to complete and the reward was a prime part, like with the Relics. It was all basic mission types. However, IMO, what made the Void Key system more compelling than Void Relics was that endless mission types did NOT have a cap. You could theoretically go for 2 hours and get rewards every 5 minutes in Survival, which was very common at the time, on a single key. This gave Warframe an actual challenge since this, aside from sortie, in the old day was the only way to fight high level enemies and it was about being as efficient as possible with your resources. Unfortunately people didn't like it because of RNG and they replaced it with Void Relics, which IMO just added more RNG since there's many times more relics than there were keys.
@Malurth
@Malurth 3 жыл бұрын
ah, I didn't know that. when I started playing they had already done away with the void key system, so void relics are all I've ever known. that does sound like an interesting alternative, though I suspect that might making grinding multi-hour survivals the go-to way of efficiently accruing value, which I imagine would grow old pretty fast. but idk, wasn't around for it. anyway thx for the info.
@stakefr0mjatefarmvods534
@stakefr0mjatefarmvods534 3 жыл бұрын
@@Malurth iirc 20 minute (i.e. one full rotation) runs were the norm, with the super long runs being not uncommon. The keys weren't so rare that you felt compelled to run them for hours but that was definitely the most efficient way, however only doing one full rotation was probably the most common. I personally never did the 2 hour long runs cause I joined in very early 2017 and the keys were retired before I had the arsenal and builds to be able to go that long. This retired system is also why the Void may seem a bit tacked on and pointless, because that tileset used to be exclusively for Key missions.

The big reason I like the game is the unique movement system that has no comparison in any game, even titanfall looks like dumbed down warframe movement, and the huge weapon variety. DE has a unique problem of making their own engine, and that comes with a lot of problematic traditions, such as every UI screen having its own copy of code which leads to a lot of effort to fix or change anything and can easily create inconsistencies for different vendors as happened on release of Deimos. And they keep occasionally forgetting to check a bugfix was put into the permanent codebase and fix gets broken in the next patch. There is no overall vision what warframe and its progression should be, this shows up in everything from how to find something, how rare it is and why would you want it. They repeatt he same bugs in new content they fixed in old one, and UI stagnates for years even among partial updates. The most requested feature to let us goddamn rotate the weapon and skin previews manually like the rest of the market stuff was never acted on. I suspect because the coding is insane enough to have copy pasted the animation code for each preview. The biggest problem with lack of vision is with so many scaling damage multipliers you get insane power but theres nothing worth using it all for, even hard mode is barely hard for a well geared veteran, with stupid rewards that you only get once or worthless overpriced junk once per week(and one exclusive reward worth getting every 8 weeks). Its a game complex to master and takes literally years to get all the content if thats what you wanna do, all it does is makes the game easier. Taking breaks is the only way for most people.

To be honest as someone that's played warframe and destiny, I find it fairly easy to comprehend what's happening and what I should be doing in warframe in comparison to destiny, I think my new player experience was the funnest part of my experience, I've been playing for 3 years and I've mainly done everything by myself and taken some big breaks hear and there, I find the universe so interesting and how while playing you learn more and more and it's so cool how it all unravels, I see it getting compared to destiny a lot (also other MMOs but mainly destiny) but though I don't hate destiny I can't understand shit in that game, nothing is conveyed very good and the universe is just so vague, like vague is good sometimes but it's just too vague and to the point where I feel like a can't bother caring about anything that's happening, plus out of game lore I don't really consider viable since it's not really attached to the game, but yeah just your comment at the start made me think its a bit funny cause coming from destiny and other MMOs I found Warframe way more comprehensive and so compelling making warframe one of the better new player experiences in "MMOs"

@4:15:20 The part about your operator randomly triggering "Void Out" is because sometimes your warframe is falling or moving into a "void out" region when you've switched. If you look at some of the clips you uploaded describing this it's clear your warframe is about to fall off the map and when it does it will trigger it even though you are on your operator form.

Just to provide an alternative perspective as someone who was new to Warframe not very long ago (I still only have 200 hours): the Operator spoilers mentioned in this video would have been a *major* spoiler to me. That plot twist was a huge amount of surprise and satisfaction when I got to that part in the game's lore. Heck, just realizing this game even has deep lore after the early game's presentation led me to believe it didn't was a real joy. Anyone who is sensitive to spoilers, the one at 9:50 that he considers "a light spoiler" is what I'm talking about. To disagree with the reviewer here, that piece of the game's fiction is a major plot twist -- the most major one in the game. It would be like knowing the plot twist in 6th Sense before watching it. If that kind of thing would bother you, and you care about plot, you may want to avoid reviews like this one (not to bash on this one specifically). Just to add a fact to my opinion, the Warframe wiki goes to great lengths to prevent viewers from reading any pages that spoil that plot twist. To be fair, I realize this part of the plot is now several years old, and many veterans expect that it's going to be spoiled for new players anyway. But I wanted to mention this because calling that "a light spoiler" is misleading and I don't think the majority of Warframe players would use that term for it. Caveat: I only play Warframe solo or with friends (who also did not want to spoil the main questline's plot for me), so this is one reason why that aspect of the game was not spoiled for me during many hours of play.
@Malurth
@Malurth 3 жыл бұрын
eh that's kind of an edge case. I'm pretty sure most people play in public matchmaking, and if you do, then you see operators constantly from the moment you start the game. IMO it's more like knowing the plot twist in the 6th Sense if that movie actually had the plot twist written in big bold letters in the background of every other scene, and it wasn't really a plot twist anyway, more like like an 'oh okay that's how that works.' but I mean, that's why I provided spoiler warnings anyway.
@RabidHobbit
@RabidHobbit 3 жыл бұрын
@@Malurth To be fair, I have played *some* pub games. Probably only about 20 max though. I never saw an operator any of those times. That was a couple years ago, closer to when this stuff was new though. However, keep in mind that while a new player is going through the star map they are going through very low level areas where they are most likely to encounter other low level players who also will not spoil anything for them. There is actually a very, very low chance that any single low level pub mission will contain the clue to the spoiler. But yeah, after 100+ public missions, it's pretty likely it will happen at least once. Even so, if someone doesn't tell them about the Operator spoiler, they might still not know what's going on, depending on the situation (it would probably be obviously spoiled in a Defense mission).

"I'm sure as Warframe continues it will change and this video will be less relevant in due time" As someone whom has played since beta 1; no, no it will not. DE is one of the most insulated developers on planet earth and are chronically incapable of taking constructive feedback unless it involves "player population has dropped 50 percent in one month and did not return the proceeding month" aka railjack. On the note Railjack will receive it's first content update exactly a year and three months after it was launched. Warframe is not a game, it's a vanity project. And it shows.

FYI: To workaround the sprint/blink issue mentioned at 1:57:30, you can set separate keys for "Sprint" and "Roll" instead of the default combined "Sprint/Roll". That was one of the first things I did in Warframe because I always ended up doing something different than I wanted (like you). ;-)

Man, I'm so glad to see more people calling out DE for their monetary bs. Namely for crucial things in the game such as inventory slots and crafting times(due to being unable to queue up multiples of the same thing at a time or even setup a number of a requested item to be crafted). I've mentioned this in a comment on a Trib video not long ago but, stuff like that really feel outdated based on the games current amount of items that are pinned with a price tag be it QoL or cosmetic. Mainly I'd want the Warframe and weapon slots to just go away entirely. It's so hard to recommend to someone to try the game out because of all the options available to them while also explaining how they'll have to play to a fluctuating market just to be able to claim the items they grinded and waited out the craft times for. That or they can just throw money at the game. Which sorta feels like the game almost guides you into doing that over the former, what with them having you install the market before all else in the game on your orbiter as well as the lack of a properly fleshed out player market as you went over in the video. But I don't expect any change in regards to that happening anytime soon sadly. Anyways awesome video, I know you talked about probably not doing more but I'm still subbing on the chance you throw something else out there be it 6hrs again or not.

Got 30k endo not even farming it. Drops quite frequently and some missions give a lot along the way. Also about credits early on I can remember it was a bit of an issue but I began the game with friends and they told me very early to sell duplicate mods. We tend to forgot about this including duplicate blueprints and such but it wields quite a good chunk of credits. Otherwise pretty good stuff overall.

I'll preface this by saying I didn't watch the entire video: The way voidouts work is that the game is meant to put you in the last place your Warframe was standing on solid ground. This is why if you jump out over a big pit and switch to operator, you will get teleported back to another place - your operator leaves the body of your Warframe behind, and it drops into the pit causing voidout, you need to leave it standing on a platform. Sometimes the voidout is buggy, like if the last thing you were doing was rolling with forward momentum, it might put you back into that state, and you will roll forward again when you re-appear. In my experience this happens 3-4 times at most. I can't explain why you were getting voidouts when walking around random corridors though, because that has never happened to me. But it's possible that some of the footage you've shown has been fixed. There is a section on the official forums where they have a built in system for the game that allows you to take screenshots which contain metadata about holes and gaps that cause these issues, which helps to reduce the frequency in future builds: forums.warframe.com/topic/395894-map-holes-environment-bugs-screenshot-tickets/ Some of your info is out of date, you mentioned that Loki might switch teleport players out of elevators, but it hasn't been possible to switch teleport with allies for years. Based on these comments it hasn't been possible since around 2014, and DE removed it specifically because people would use it for trolling steamcommunity.com/app/230410/discussions/0/619568192706545258/ Your comments about 'friendship doors' and elevators are pretty accurate. They don't really help anyone, and can be buggy or laggy, which ends up taking up more time than they would have saved by gathering the group members together.
@Malurth
@Malurth 3 жыл бұрын
last I checked loki can still switch with allies. I recorded this vid in april 2019: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aNSRYKZpz523oJs.html so at bare minimum you're off by 5 years. I can't remember exactly the last time I tried and I'm too lazy to check if it still works but I expect it would. also re: voidouts, I guess it's a bug when it teleports me back to the foot of an elevator or the start of a mission then. and it shouldn't drop my warframe into the pit, it should give me control of it exactly where I told it to switch back from operator mode. overall just seems like an ass mechanic made a whole lot worse by being real buggy too. but anyway thanks for contributing, much appreciated.

I watched a bit more, point 26 in '99 problems' - talking about RNG drops: When you're at a point in the game the you have enough equipment and power to be able to solo a good chunk of content (maxed out builds with fully levelled arcanes, etc) you probably know by now that you can trade things for platinum. If the drop rate of some parts are bothering you, just trade some other items to get plat, then buy the items you want. You never have to spend any money yourself because you can trade for platinum in game. You can also wait until you get a 50% or 75% off login discount, then buy platinum then. It's not very common, but when it happens you will get so much platinum that you may never need to buy any again for years.
@Malurth
@Malurth 3 жыл бұрын
@@onceonly1111 yeah earlier in the vid I talk about how it's actually optimal to farm plat for nearly anything tradeable instead of farming it directly, since if it's not faster to farm plat than it is to acquire it directly through drops, that means it's already the best plat farming item in the game (and is probably new and overpriced, so you should probably either be farming it to sell or waiting for it to get cheaper). However this gets a lot less clear if it's an untradeable item you that you can purchase from the market with plat, cuz then you have to basically guess which would be faster, and luck plays a heavy role in that. and aside from that there still exist RNG drops that are untradeable and unpurchaseable so in that case your only option is to pray to the RNG gods, and other times it just seems clearly more efficient to acquire the drop directly than it is to purchase it but luck screws you making it take forever and it feels like crap when that happens. point is unbounded RNG with no weighting or pity systems will inevitably result in hordes of players getting screwed and upset because of it, which is a shame when that's entirely avoidable.

Full disclosure: I did not watch all of this. 6 hours is just too long for me. But here's a big one: P2P mission hosting... I mean, really!? It's 2021 (9 years after Warframe was released) and we're still using P2P mission hosting for the vast majority of missions? Nothing like having Xfinity Extreme tier internet speed only to be paired with a host that apparently lives in bfe, streaming Netflix & 4K porn and has what seems to be dial-up internet. Yep, I just love having 1-6k lag and unable to kill anything or walk through any door, then getting host migrated only to realize the escort target died during the lagfest causing a mission failure. Fun...

60fps hurts your eyes? Anything moving fast enough to look blurry does, because your eyes will try to focus the picture. So framerate even above 120 can strain your eyes with a fast movement game like warframe.
@Malurth
@Malurth 3 жыл бұрын
yea tbh warframe is the first game I've played where I found myself thinking 'damn, I don't know if 60fps is actually enough for this game.' because sometimes the action is so chaotic + my movement so quick that even at 60fps each frame looks wildly different from the last, and it kind of just winds up looking like a super fast slideshow with clearly discernible individual frames.

So I learned my lesson, don't wait more than 5-10 mins at most, better yet just keep going about your farming business, don't even bother messaging them again either, if they're serious they'll message you. I went though all of it. This was very well done and is mostly on point , though i dislike the fact that you are one of the meta chaser leech type of players in the game, its not inherently a bad thing but your "this sucks cause others couldn't get up to my level and expectation , and my preference is more important than theirs when getting stuff done" does make you an asshole in my books. Other than the way you handle interacting with others i do agree with the points you made for doing so. I hope the Devs go though this as well , but knowing this they are more likely to listen to a 15 second review asking for more cosmetics.

Yes, it *is* inherently a bad thing when somebody's "level" of play is little more than pure sh1t-style, lazy-farming cheese--as this review promotes--and they talk like that is anything to be proud of, much less something any less-spastic player should ever feel obligated to accommodate or emulate. I would like for DE to be more attentive and responsive to player critiques too, but Not along ^these priorities, which sound no less shallow and compulsive than those of all our preening fashionframers strangling the game from the opposite direction.
