If Big Finish or the show explores the Nightmare Child, I hope it's more than just a big dalek - not saying it shouldn't be a dalek but maybe something more lovecraftian.

I kind of want to see the Nightmare Child, but at the same time I think it's best left unseen and left to our speculation to what it probably looked like. Probably with all the other horrors that came from it. I think it builds up the fear factor of what went down in the Time war that we haven't seen in Doctor who or Big Finish.

The Nightmare Child is not for _inferior_ minds to try to comprehend. It remains a warning to all Daleks of the dangers of developing a weapon beyond one's ability to control.

The concept of the Nightmare Child sounds very intriguing. I thought that ever since it was mentioned as it sounds way worse than any Dalek that came before or after that as I have reason to believe that it is a failed mutation of Davros. A creature beyond anything that the universe could ever imagine. Much more than just a demon-like being that would devour everything. I'd want to see it on screen in a Dalek story one day as it's only been mentioned a few times, not shown if you don't count fan made projects as it sounds to be so messed up that it's practically impossible for me to describe it any further without seeing it's full power on screen that I garuntee would make any fan, including me, quiver and leave me and most likely any fan, scarred for several days straight. As you can tell, I really want to see the Nightmare Child on screen and not just mentioned that I have a feeling that it would be worse than the Daleks if it ever gets shown as I believe that it is a failed mutation of Davros and will leave me and other fans I'm sure quivering and scarred for days, if not weeks as it does sound like an amazing concept that I am surprised that we haven't seen it in the show at this point with the budget that they have. I still really want to though one day.

What fascinates me about the Time War is just how desperate both sides were willing to compromise their own values to win or even just to gain an advantage. I always wondered what constituted as a "Skaro Degradation", because if the Daleks were already unnatural by default, what must they be like? I'm also intrigued by how Davros only lasted a year into the war, indicating a sign of fragility on his part. Despite his accomplishments, he is still a mortal compared to the Time Lords and even his own creations. How long would he have lasted had the Nightmare Child incident not occurred?

In a short story written by RTD, by the end of the Time War the Nightmare Child had become so large that copies of Earth were created to be used as bullets against it. I feel like that would be a fascinating story to tell, a Dalek that considers itself the most perfect, purest Dalek of them all (while in reality being a disgusting grotesque parody of a creature) and is now so large it can consume the entire universe and every impure creature in it.

The moment I learned the nightmare child showed up in a doctor who anthology I made sure to put it on my reading list. The description thet hateful force of nature wreaking havoc on Daleks and tardis alike was maddeningly riveting. And it only grew bigger Apparently! I was under a different impression the doctor might've been metaphorical about the nightmare childs Jaws, or that it was some sort of time lord created creature. But I think it being this personification of relentless Dalek hate even for itself growing more unruly is a perfect way to demonstrate that the Daleks were now more than capable of keeping up with the horrors of the time war so i'm down with that explanation! I'm not sure I'd like to ever see it on screen simoly because I don't think any official picture will do the nightmare child a true amount of justuce but i'm not sure.

When I heard it referenced in stolen earth or journey’s end I thought it was like the midnight man but instead just like a child that can control nightmares

I hate how it's just a fancy dalek. I always imagined it being something like Cthulhu that the Time Lords or the Daleks accidentally woke up (And then presumably killed) during the Time War.

I always felt like things like The nightmare child should never be explained and they should just be left to the imagination because it’s scarier that way

When you hear of things like this going on the Time War it really makes it clear why the Doctor had literally no fear going up against the Beast. Closest thing to Satan in this universe and he didn’t even flinch.

The video was normal! well I am happy that the nightmare child got a proper video but now I'm paranoid. One thing about the NC is that while the "davros created it etc etc" idea kind of explains it and ruins it in a way I like the concept so much that I kind of don't mind, it's certainly my headcannon.

The nightmare child was the product of dark dreams that Galileo Galilei's eldest daughter Virginia was induced to have when kidnapped by the emperor dalek who was able to manifest the dream within the temporal vortex. In ruining the Emperor Dalek's plan by creating a time storm on Skaro the timelord Archon sacrificed a regeneration but saved Virginia while the nightmare child was trapped in a temporal loop in the orbit of the planet Elysium which would be the site of a future human scientific colony researching dreams. At least according to me.

I always through the nightmare child was a fringe experiment, a almost love craft like mutant of the dalek race. Something both real and unreal. The time war (regardless of how some of big finish show It. Is suppose to be unable to comprehend.

I think you might’ve missed a detail: the version of the nightmare child that fell in the gates of Elysium is a newborn It survived that and as an adult was so unstoppable that we shot it with bullets made of duplicated planet earths

I’d love to see the nightmare child appear in big finish as an idescribable horror, like a story that is about the nightmare child and story events happen around it but all we see is the distruction it causes.

I hope the finale of the current Eighth Doctor Big Finish Quadrilogy (What Lies Inside, Connections, Echoes) features the Nightmare Child. With the broken seal of Rassilon on all the covers, it really feels like it's catching up to the 8th Doctor's Time War Audios.

I like to think of the Nightmare child more as a manifestation of all the Time paradoxes created by the time war & that it is beyond the perception of anything allowing it to be shapeless & appear as the deepest fears of people which could give it it's name. It being a Dalek just makes it too boring to be the mysterious Lovecraftian beast we hear of/

I kinda like it as a nightmare of our imagination, I feel no explanation will be as good as the theories and mysteries surrounding it and to explain it would take something away from the community and the universe just in order to make something more solidified in canon and that last thing Doctor who has ever needed was a solid canon

Visually I'm picturing this monstrosity that vaguely resembles a juiced up Dalek mutant, this octopoid like storm that stares into your soul and drives anyone who gets near it to fear and/or madness, an abomination that simply has the outline of a true Dalek

I've only ever heard snippets of the Nightmare Child here and there, and being a large fan of indescribable eldritch horrors of untold aeons, I'd say it's probably a good thing the Nightmare Child remains unexplained or unseen. Like most horror movies, most of the fear factor is kinda sapped away once it's explained just who or what the villain is, and I feel that would be the same case with the Nightmare Child. That being said, I do have my own small theory of exactly what it is; I like to think it was, as you said, Davros' attempt to create the ultimate perfect Dalek, free of the flaws it's brethren shared, but the very state of the war caused it to mutate into a cosmic lovecraftian horror beyond all comprehension, a creature who's entire existence is nothing but pure, unadulterated hatred. That's just my thoughts on it, anyways.

Do you think other races were barred from taking part in the time war, apart from the Daleks and the Time Lords, well that is what the Sontarans felt, from the Sontaran Stratagem/ Poison sky and we know they love a good war, what do you think, we're other races too scared to take part in the Time War?

I feel like exploring the Time War can be risky. It's supposed to be beyond our comprehension in terms of scale, not to mention all the rewriting of history before the time lock. When the 10th Doctor was on the floor describing all it's horrors, we had no idea what they meant and that's what was so terrifying. I feel like the Nightmare Child might be better left unexplored. The name is so vague it could be any number of things, and chances are, giving it form might ruin it. Though at the same time, I wouldn't mind a Davros/Caan audio that explores his rescue and decision to rebuild the Daleks once more.

Whatever the Nightmare Child is, the show would never be able to do it justice. It's like how the destruction of Gallifrey was built up over so many seasons, only to have it be 'destroyed' by some dalek ships surrounding it and shooting at it Bugs Bunny style. It just can't compete with what we can imagine.

I do think the nightmare child shouldn’t be fully explained or shown and best left to the imagination. In doctor who and the Time war it’s said that earth was multiplied and thrown at the nightmare child

my biggest problem with a lot of the expanded material around the time war is that it just makes it so…. mundane. the way it’s described during the rtd era makes it sound so incomprehensible, abstract, and lovecraftian. but then all these stories just turn it into a really generic war with really boring explanations like bizarre dalek variants instead of temporal abominations
