We continue with Mozart's A minor sonata (K.310) with the slow second movement "Andante cantabile con espressione" in F major. It presents a calm and heartfelt melody together with a somewhat playful character, but in the middle section all the pain and tension from the first movement surfaces again. Addendum: I realized after I had recorded that you can actually make the case for sonata form stronger by interprating that the second subject starts with the staccato G's in the RH then already modulated to C major. In the recapitulation this is restated in F major, which completely satisfies the tonal structure for sonata form. However, I don't feel that moment at all as a subject entering, only as a transportation section with the element of a two voices duet, albeit firmly in C major. In contrast the character that enters in bar 8 is for me something much more new, then still in F major, that I feel is closer to a "second idea" in the A section. This ambiguity I think only proves the power of these classical forms operating at their best on the edge of our expectations of tonality and material development.

this phenomenon of not feeling "that moment at all as a subject entering" and the "more new" bar 8 theme is not unusual for sonata form! It's all over Mozart, Haydn, and of course Beethoven!

That subdominant when the A section comes back reminds me of K 545 and it's subdominant first theme in the recapitulation.

I've recently started studying the mozart sonata 17 in b-flat major. I love mozart, but I haven't played anything similar so im trying to get used to his style :) This mvt is so pretty, maybe my next project after this one.

Thank you and welcome to the channel! Yes exactly, it's a stereo set of small diaphragm condenser microphones Oktava MK 012-01 MSP2, and a Lavalier microphone Shure MX185, that I mix together with a little bit of sound from the Zoom H6 which they are connected to next to the camera. It takes some work to find a good balance in the mix, that I'm still struggling with sometimes, but I'm glad you like it :)

such a warm wonderful analytic guide... but the goddamn advertising interruptions takes us out of the flow! the metallic drumming and subversive pitches are the polar opposite of the Mozart at hand. 😓😖

Thanks, I'm happy you like the video! I'm so sorry about the ads, I thought the youtube algorithm was smart enough not to place ads in the middle of the music. I have looked into it and apparently it was not, but I have now adjusted it and removed those ad breaks that came in the music. I think I have to look at my other videos now as well and do the same thing manually. (But I think this video was extra exposed due to many long soft places in the music...)
