Hi Vijay Mohan Sir, Thanks for this analysis. Highly underrated channel. My 2 cents - Suggest to split the video's for India and US markets so as to gather more traffic. US related videos could be in English so that Pan-Indian NRI/Global audience can be benefited & adds more subscribers. Indian video could be in Tamil to start with, to relish the nativity & subtle humor :) law of deferred tax compounding is amazing. wish we had such financial teachers rt from our early college days ! Pls do give a thought on penning a book!

Great Video as always sir. Keep up the great work! Getting neutral and unbiased financial advice is very rare in this internet age where everyone recommends different financial products for their own commissions. So your videos are extremely helpful. Any video showcasing the savings gained by capitalising on the 1Lakh exemption on LTCG and then reinvesting this amount would be very helpful sir (preferably with any spreadsheets).

Your Videos are really helpful and Genuine in accepting that this is just a theory and it could vary in realtime.. Its the fact people should understand.. I have a very basic question on the returns you have stated above Let's say I have invested Rs.10000 ( ex: Bought 100 share ( Rs.100/share) and got a return of 10% in the first year.. The next year ,you have calculated that investment would be 11000... But that can happen only if I sell and re-invest the money again right? ( Should we do that in longterm every year?) To be clear, Can you explain this in number of shares and its cost perspective?( because I assume If we are not going to sell and re-invest, the number of shares remains same in next 25 years)
@InvestmentInsightsTamil
@InvestmentInsightsTamil 3 жыл бұрын
No. The units remain the same. The growth is in the price of the units. For example, Nasdaq 100 ETF QQQ was $54 10 years ago and now it is at $382. This means it has grown at a rate of 21.6% in the last 10 years. If I have bought 1 unit of this ETF 10 yrs ago, I would have paid $54. Not its price is $382. Makes sense?

@@muthukumarramasamy1552 Yes. That is correct.

@muthukumarramasamy1552 3 жыл бұрын
@@InvestmentInsightsTamil Sounds good.. this works for a lump sum one time investment and watch it growing every year.. How do you compare this with regular investment.. What would be the ideal return for the same.. Let's say, I have Rs.1000 and I bought 10 shares ( 100/share) today.. After a year the share price increase to 120.. I bought another 10 shares ( 120/share).. So now my profit % split it into half..[ I invested 2200 with avg cost of share 110/share - So now the profile would be ~ 9%) .. Assuming that repeats every year, what would be ideal % of return one should expect after 25 years.

Fund reflects the underlying Index. There are rules that define which stocks make up to the index. If a stock is in financial trouble, the index would have removed it and so the fund that is tracking the index as well. I do not really see any reason to get concerned about this scenario at all.

You can definitely buy individual stocks if you believe in their future growth. But if you look back at the history, you will notice that top companies keep changing every decade and it is very hard to identify the top companies. Saying that, if you feel confident about a business, go ahead and buy it.

I have very basic question on how compounding works. It will be great if you elaborate more. For ex: I am investing $20000 each year in an ETF VTI through any brokerage ex tdameritrade. If I invest for next 10 years then my total investment will be 10*20000=200000. Suppose if I receive 10% increase at the end of 10th year then will I get only 220200? Once I invest what steps should I do each year to make sure my money gets compounding? Belated teachers day wishes!

If you are investing 20K every year and if the investment is growing at a rate of 10% every year, you will have $402K by the end of 10 years. Use this calculator to see your growth: www.moneychimp.com/calculator/compound_interest_calculator.htm You do not have to do anything else after investing. Just let it grow.

Thanks much Sir. I am still confused on how will I get 10 % every year?. In such case I should see my etf price will be doubled by end of 10 th year? I have taken VTI ETF as an example.

Namaskaram sir, Thanks for these details, my go-to videos are your videos. Assume we put 19.5K per year 401k and when I withdraw from India, doesn't go 30% flat alien capital gain tax ?. In the example, 105000$ per year, so does it come 70xxx$ after-tax if I withdraw from India, am I correct on this ?. ( Assumption is that if I don't do 401k -> IRA -> RothIRA Strategy )

401K withdrawal is considered as income, not capital gains. So we need to follow the standard income tax rate for that. Another thing is, though they charge the 30% when you withdraw as alien, you will be able to pay only the appropriate tax amount depending on your tax bracket when filing the tax as Non-resident. Also note, there is no standardized deduction available for Non-resident. Saying that, it is better to consult a tax advisor to understand the exact implications.

Sir, I have a question regarding withdrawal of upto ₹1 lakh every year and buying back the fund again on LTCG. The NAV at the time of buying might be more in comparison to the ones we are selling. Which one is best based on the scenario you have given, i) Liquidating once for all at the end of 25 yrs or ii) Reinvesting in index after selling gain amount =< ₹1 lakh

Totally personal choice. It depends on the amount. If the portfolio is huge, it might not be worth the time. But if the portfolio is small, may be it is worth doing it. And yes, the price could be potentially higher in 2 days. We have to make a call on whether to do it for saving the tax or not. There is no "best" way for that.

Could you please tell me about lumpsum investment in funds can do again and again on the same fund. Not like one time investment? Ex : 50,000 investment on fund X today. Next year 50,000 can do investment on the same fund X on top of it ?
