Second time around. What a vile bunch of people: the Chief Justice murdered, her sadistic defendant let loose by her brilliantly calculated courtroom performance to prey upon the weak; the bickering disloyal counselors ready with a smile and a knife; the stupidly sympathetic social worker ’asking to be murdered’ as Venetia might have said before she was; the unwanted, aimless cow of a daughter and her groveling housekeeper. What a hot mess. Must have been a raw and bloody year James devised this story. A certain justice indeed. In this life, We may only hold on to baseless hope to dodge harm! The only clean hands and sound minds were those of the sensible wife of the hapless social worker and the stoic investigator in the face of unfathomable evil, Chief Inspector Dalgliesh. Small favors.

The same thing. goes for subtitles. I have been succesful almost everytime I have loked for subs for movies made in the last 20 yrs. The ones from the 50s and 40s are a little tuffer. Once you got the subs, its easy to use VLC to watch the with the srt file or use Handbreak to add them permenently. I do this a lot with Russian movies. The Russians have a slew of really excellent movies., made after the Soviet era.

In the last PD James story I watched, publisher Gerard was on a mission to be hated by all, and he succeeded. He was outlandishly unpleasant, cruel and ruthless. When he was murdered, the natural reaction was, "he had that coming". Vanetta topped Gerard. She didn't just go out of her way to be unlikeable. She literally promised to ruin the lives of anyone who didn't measure up to her standards. Forty minutes in, she's got at least four enemies who need to get rid of her and a couple more who wouldn't mind if she was dead. She must have had a death wish.

The rest of the plot aside, one very similar to the crime that is portrayed at the beginning of the story occurred in the U.S. A teenager killed the mother who had molested him his entire life. He did, in fact, kill her. Though a minor, he was tried as an adult and was sentenced to life in prison without any chance of parole. Being in a conservative “red” state, commutation of his sentence by the governor, his only way of leaving prison, will never happen.

I have all of PD James' "Adam Dalgleish" movies on CD. I have watched them over & over & over EXCEPT this one - twice was enough. I watched it a 2nd time to make sure I just wasn't having a bad day the first time around and to give Dalgleish a chance to win me over. But I just don't like it from start to finish. I wondered - since this was Marsden's last play as Dalgleish - if that is why you don't see much of him?? I read somewhere he was simply "over" playing this character. I really like Martin Shaw but he's no Ray Marsden when it come to Adam Dalgleish.

@misshavisham32207 жыл бұрын
The composer is Richard Harvey. You can listen the theme here on youtube, or check Amazon. I've been looking for it as well, and I just can't pin down the name of the theme . . . everything I come across with the theme is so vague about the name. It MIGHT be called "Shroud for a Nightengale," which is the name of one of the series; however, it's not the name of the first one, so that may not be correct . . .

Octavia, one of those adult children who insist on being treated as an adult, but moves in with Mummy and tries to rule her house instead of finding her own. ' You see, the only person whose in a state about her daughter coming home is you, ' insolent and Narcissistic. Some children are difficult to love and even more difficult to like. Detestable. Will Mummy turn out to be the Mummy from hell? The author makes very interesting observations.

You have to consider what makes them difficult to love and difficult to like in the first place, and what role their parents played in making that the case.

I usually greatly appreciate films but I think it very unkind to upload a series with episodes missing, esp; in whodunnits. Glad I read the comments before starting as the last series had an episode missing, so I won't bother. I would think when one is bombarded with commercials the up-loader could at least make sure all episodes are available.

alice hudson: The ads are usually placed by the copyright holder, as a condition of allowing the vid to remain on YT (i.e., not by the uploader). Install a free, safe adblocker like uBlock Origin -- it'll change your life. ..... Also: It's not unheard of for a copyright holder to require the takedown of one ep from a series but not all (the issue can be music used in that ep) -- I know all of this from long and sometimes bitter experience as an uploader. Someone who has gone to the trouble of uploading all of these eps wouldn't have posted 5 out of 6 and left us hanging; I'd bet my life that the missing upload was taken down bc of CR issues. ..... And, when an ep is missing, search YT to see if anyone else has uploaded it (in this case, someone did).
@THESHOMROM6 жыл бұрын
alice hudson All 3 episodes are now uploaded. They are a gift, not an entitlement. You could, as many of us, have done due diligence and discovered that the third episode had not yet been uploaded. The generous one who provided us with this may, for any number of reasons, not yet had an opportunity to complete the uploads or a copyright holder may have had an episode removed. I imagine you being one who gets upset at not receiving anniversary cards, but see no need to mail some out yourself.

If you mean you won't bother because you think an ep is missing, then just search YT for it -- all 3 eps were here a couple of days ago (I watched them). It's a pretty good series -- not great, and a little dated. But good -- very good, if you like older fare and don't mind the production values and slower pacing of the times.

That is a shame as it was a truly fantastic mystery, I first watched years ago Penny Dowie as Venetia Aldridge and Ricci Harnett as Gary Ashe were marvellous. Roy Marsden was the true Commander Adam Dalgleish, no matter how much he hated Adam as a character he carried the enigmatic and philosophical nature of the Adam Dalgleish in the novels,Adam was a reflection of Dame Phyllis D James herself. I have always believed PD James was truly gifted ,she possessed one of the finest analytical minds, coupled with a cold and calculating approach especially with reference to her detachment of her characters, as any great writer has to possess, my belief is she not only an unsurpassable crime writer she was also a great writer.

First, check yt -- someone else has shared the missing ep, as is sometimes the case. And, the original uploader might not know that an ep was taken down -- it's been 2.5 years since he shared this, and many people don't maintain their channels. Finally, the uploader has no control over takedowns, so please cut him some slack -- he spent a lot of time uploading hard-to-find vids that we're enjoying.
