The whole "You failed me, you think I'm a failure" thing cemented the immaturity and disconnect from real-world scenarios of the entire show. Riley was spoiled and entitled, Maya was overdramatic in many instances, and the rest of the characters acted like changing for the better or trying to improve on flaws was something that others couldn't decide by themselves. Consequences were for others, not for the main cast, or weren't really serious. The issues were often tackled superficially or not at all. The adults were a joke in comparison to the original. The show tackled its "haters", read also: critiques, in an underhanded manner. Also the "Maya is becoming Riley" thing was manipulative and a miserable line of thinking, as far as treating friends go.

And one thing that always bothered me was that Maya was supposed to be the underprivileged one but she definitely wasn’t. She was very stylish and had just as much as Riley. Maybe that’s because Disney likes to make everything bright and shiny. On BMW you can tell visibly that Sean has less than Corey, especially when they where kids.

Bringing it to Disney was a mistake. The nostalgia factor would’ve required the focus to be on the adults and not the kids Riley and Maya. Plus When Disney stars age, the network cycles them out so I’m sure that contributed to its brevity.

you know what i never understood? corey's role as the teacher. they tried to turn him into feeny by giving him every single role possible (from history teacher to life coach etc etc), but 1. making the parent the teacher was a mistake and 2. even during the "history" lessons, he wasn't even talking about history. he always spoke in such a weird way, like he was giving a ted talk. i only remember a few instances where he was actually discussing historical subjects. i'm not surprised that the few episodes that i remember liking were the ones wherein corey barely had a role (like the episode where riley gets bullied).

This! It never made sense. Cory never had any aspirations to be a teacher nor the skills to do so. He was a filmmaker and it would've made sense for him to be a documentarian or something. I actually think Eric or Shawn would've made more sense. Eric showed great skill in the episode where he covered Feeny's night class and Shawn becoming a teacher would've been a great nod to his relationships with both Turner and Feeny. He would've been a cool mixture of both men.

my problem with the show was that every episode felt like a high school PSA while boy meets world felt like i was just following a bunch of pre-teens/teens through their lives. i grew up with girl meets world, but when i watched boy meets world years later, i was shocked at how much better it was. even in comparison to the questionable 90s/early 2000s morals and politics, bmw was more progressive than gmw.

boy meets world actually seems like a realistic coming of age for most middle income kids being the middle child etc. the biggest issue that turned me off of the show was that the girls felt like they were more adults than kids. like they were fashionable and wearing heels...like what kind of rich ass school are these kids going to? a high school in Beverly Hills? the girls didnt feel like kids growing up it felt like young adults trying to act like kids. also not having a feeny figure was a huge mistake. Corey should of been more of the dad role like how his father was in BMW, but doing the dad and feeny just felt off. its sad that the best parts of GMW were the cast from BMW showing up.

Lucas being Riley’s love interest was supposed to be a misdirect, Farkle was Riley’s true love interest. Unlike Cory and most boys, the girls in middle school are immediately already thinking about boys. So to have Riley wanna fall in love with a “perfect” guy like Lucas makes sense. Farkle started the series off being really weird, but Riley saw him in the same way Cory saw Topanga. Farkle got a lot more depth and we saw him develop, we know his family life, his ancestral history, and he understands Riley in ways Lucas (and even Maya) doesn’t. Riley wants that fairytale romance (especially with parents like Cory and Topanga). And Farkle didn’t exactly fit that, while Lucas was perfect or it. Riley and Farkle had more chemistry anyway, Riley and Lucas were boring, Farkle challenged and encourages Riley. They also have more parallels to Cory and Topanga, like Farkle saying he loved Riley since the first grade, just like Cory saying he loved Topanga since he was 6. And there’s so many hints like Riley saying we’ll never settle for anyone less than Farkle, or Charlie saying “so, she (Riley) ends up with Farkle, how didn’t we see that coming”. There’s only one Cory and Topanga, where you meet someone, immediately fall in love and are together forever. Riley and Lucas try to be that, but they’re just each other’s first loves, her real one true love is Farkle (she just won’t notice until later in life).

@@growingupwithdisney But the show end with Riley and Lucas together :(
@growingupwithdisney
@growingupwithdisney Жыл бұрын
@@jazzcl7 sorta, Riley and Lucas broke up in the finale, and never officially got back together. They had Lucas say, “you and Riley have the deepest feelings I have ever known” in Girl Meets Sweet Sixteen. And then had Riley say in Girl Meets Goodbye, “thanks Farkle, but maybe you shouldn’t say that infront of Smackle” after Farkle tells her “I loved you since the first grade, I always will, wherever you are”. In contrast, in Girl Meets Sweet Sixteen, Riley say she was just hopeful for Lucas, but was 100% certain her and Maya were forever. And then in Riley and Lucas’s break up they kept saying, “I’ll always tell them you were my first girlfriend/boyfriend”. So Riley and Lucas were just each other’s firsts, first date, first kiss, and first love. They don’t grow together, but they do look back at the memory of each other fondly. And Farkle is with Smackle to figure love out and to improve academically. So, they both had their first love experience in order to eventually find each other as a second chance at love. There’s only one Cory and Topanga where you meet one person at a young age, fall in love, and are with them together. Riley and Lucas were perfect as a first love, but Riley second chance and her one true love is Farkle.

The show was Disnified and dumb down. No respect for the legacy character especially Angela/Trina McGee disrespecting the fans of the original. The main character was annoying on and off the screen. And she had no chemistry with her love interest on the show. They also tried to make the MC and her best friend too much like Shawn and Cory instead of their own characters. But the one good thing about the story was it introduced a new generation of fans to BMW and gave the show a second life and renewed interest.
@seanswinton6242

That's the karma. Trina McGee's character was integral in the BMW and this failed due to her npt being there. The original audience wanted the Shawn and Angela relationship rekindled and integrated in the show. Perhaps that relationship renews. Now you can expand and explore the possibilities.

Cory made me cringe in this show. He was too goofy. I get he was like that when he was a kid but in GMW he’s supposed to be an adult with 2 kids. His parents felt like parents and his teachers, Mr. Feeny and Mr. Turner felt real. Cory loses control of his class and he only has moments of seriousness when the plot calls for it.

it failed bcs Disney made it childish. It would have been a bit better if besides the kids's storylines, there were secondary ones form the adult's characters. Also, it talked serious issued but in a Disney channel way, meaning they could almost never name the problem it self. For example that whole love triangle thing which ended by a weird conversation with Josh implying that Maya was acting like Riley, not herself (Is he a psychologist? He is just a college student). The big compilation of Maya's problems, most of them unnamed but still made a drama out of it. I was a teenager when this show was on air and despite liking it pretty much, I did not understand most of the plots. Only when I rewatched it years later I got a glimpse of what it was about.

GMW was a disappointment, not only as a successor to the original series, but as it's own thing. The only thing I will give it is that it tried to do something different than the wacky hijanks/nonsense that was on most Disney sitcoms around that time. But, at the same time, their brand of comedy and writing was even more forced and awkward than most of the writing on many Disney shows at the time. Also, they tended to deliver their lines almost robotically. The only one in the group of children that seemed less forced is Jay, and Maya was annoying sometimes but only slightly better than most of the others. Farley got a lot better after his goth transformation. He needed it.

One instance is when Lucas's friend (can't remember his name) was gonna get beat up and Corey literally just tells Maya and Riley to back off while they all whatch it go down. Like damn they made Riley being bullied some earth shattering event. I couldn't stop rolling my eyes. It needed more raunch, but like I said it's kind of hard to do that when you cast a bunch of 12 year olds that can't act.

Not to mention that,rather than have Riley(or the others) acknowledge that SHE had been an overwhelming,nosy bully to Maya, her parents,Auggie and her other friends [and used that time for her(and the writers) to acknowledge her own flaws and work on them], they pretended she had always nothing less than sweet and wonderful instead of saying 'the bully was wrong to say she wanted you gone but you yourself need to stop bullying others '. Of course she went back to bullying others (like Mr. Feeny) as soon as that 'very special episode' was done.

@shaifs5072
@shaifs5072 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. I liked it, but it was nowhere near Boy Meets World’s league. Morals were hand fed, issues were too soft. To much Auggie. I was put off how mature Riley and Maya were. Shawn and Corey were kids for awhile and grew into teens. The lesser important characters were around too much. A lot of BMW’s greatness is it being just Shawn and Corey, or just Corey and Topanga. Riley is too perfect, Corey and Topanga are too nice of parents. Corey clashed with his parents and got in trouble, which made Allan and Amy to have to be grown ups instead of seeming more like friends. Corey as a teacher feels like a happy hippy who preaches and doesn’t actually teach school lessons. Kid Corey teaching Feeny’s class about Ann Frank not only hit harder than anything in GMW, but does a better job of teaching than his adult self who is supposed to be a teacher.

Not that the show didn't have its flaws, but can't we all just admit that our gripes with GMW is out fault: nostalgia. We remember 20+ years ago when we watched BMW and how we felt, primarily because were a similar age to the characters. It was far easier to relate to Cory, Shawn and the crew than Riley, Maya and the rest, mostly because we're more than 20 YEARS OLDER! Like I said, GMW isn't perfect, but 3 things: 1. Boy Meets World wasn't perfect, either; that's nostalgia talking. 2. Because of #1, just admit that we can't be objective. We're definitely in our feelings about the things in our youth which resonated with us, and are usually turned off by things which are reiterative of those things. 3. If you were a kid/teen when Boy Meets World came out, Girl Meets World IS NOT FOR YOU! It's for the kids and teens of the day, especially young girls. Just like Boy Meets World was our generation's... Different Strokes or Silver Spoons... or whatever 80s kid sitcom was popular, Girl Meets World was that generations... well, Boy Meets World. Not saying that criticisms aren't valid, but a lot of what I'm hearing and reading sound more like an inability to let subsequent generations have what you had, but for them, not for you.

I was about 13 when it came out so that would have made me their target demographic (I'm female btw). I didn't really like it either. I'd watched it at first but later lost interest. I remember thinking that the writing was weird. The dialogue was odd and they forced too much drama. It didn't feel natural at all. It was funny at some points but overall just . . . too on the nose and unnatural. But I know that there were a lot of fans of the show. I just wasn't one of them. And there clearly weren't enough for it to get renewed for more seasons.

Of course, the thing is they tried to sell what a wonderful friend and perfect person Riley was supposed to be . However, even in the clip shown, she actually came across as an arrogant and controlling person. I mean, if she'd been a sincere friend and wanting the best for Maya, instead of saying 'Maya is always going to get us into trouble and I will always get us out of it', she'd have said something closer to 'Maya got us into trouble and I got us out of THIS time but I believe she'll learn to avoid trouble and maybe one day she possibly could get me out of trouble'! The former way seemed as though she was not only being arrogant but also doing her best to guilt Maya .Too bad neither Maya, Cory or Topanga called her on that tude. Riley seemed to want folks to think she was nicer,deeper and smarter than she actually was while Maya seemed to be smarter,deeper and nicer than she wanted folks to think! If they had acknowledged (and called Riley) on her flaws or even tried to write her as an actual likable person (as they did Cory, Shawn and Topanga on BMW), the show would have been far better instead of them expecting everyone to adore her and pretend she was flawless.

Also boy meets world had 7 seasons and girl meets world would've gone up to 4 if it had not been cancelled. That's not enough time. I think Girl meets world would've done better if it had been on another network without so many restrictions. Not only that, I noticed that around mid to late season 2 and season 3 was a bit rushed in my opinion. All and all girl meets world was an excellent show in my eyes. It's been like, a year since this was posted but the major thing I'm getting is that like Peanuts, the Boy Meets World fandom and the public at large mythologized Boy Meets World to the point where once it passed off to Disney Channel everyone forgot that Cory and Topanga's relationship was a teeter-totter after they grew up, Shawn and Angela broke up for *cough* "reasons." and Eric's shenanigans became the funniest part of the show by the end, so Disney amped up the sappiness to cater toward that mythology but it backfired horribly.

100% agree with all of this! I had been hoping freeform would pick up the show from Disney Channel so they could do more mature content like its predecessor. I will add they should have merged the characters of Lucas and Farkle into one character. That character would be closer to what Farkle turned into by the final season. Farkle could be annoying, but at least he was interesting. Lucas was boring and it really seemed they didn't know what to do with his character other than make him the love interest. He got better as it went along like Farkle, but he wasn't someone you got invested in like Topanga. If they gave him some of Farkle's quirks and personality (not all lol) I think they could have had an interesting character and love interest. What made this show pale in comparison to the original to me was the relationships between the characters. Instead of having a Morgan sibling in Augy, they needed to have an Eric sibling. To me, Eric and Corey's relationship was one of the best of the series. It really did a good job exploring the sibling relationship. There is no sibling relationship explored with Riley and Augy because he is so much younger. They barely interact and when they do it's always positive and no real conflict occurs. Most kids have siblings within 4 years of them. They bicker and fight. Also having Augy be so young didn't allow him to have any real stories. Eric was often used to be the main character when Ben Savage wasn't available to shoot many scenes in a week. As a result, Eric becomes just as important character as Corey. Missing that type of character I feel left a lot of potential. You can feel the void. The B stories in this are VERY weak. I think it was a mistake to make Riley the main character. In my opinion Maya was more interesting and was the one learning or "meeting" the world. She was more relatable than Riley who was written as too perfect. She was very smart and very nice. Not nearly as flawed as Corey was as a character. That's what made him a good protagonist. He was flawed and therefore he had more to learn and interesting stories could happen. The Corey/Feeney relationship couldn't happen with him and Riley because he was her dad. It would have been better to see Corey take an interest in mentoring someone who wasn't his daughter. Instead, Corey is teaching the whole class the lesson, but the lesson is mostly for his daughter and friends. In Boy Meets World, often Feeney was teaching normal school work and then Corey would say or do something that resulted in him talking to Corey after class that would lead to the actual lesson. In this show Corey seems to be teaching things that definitely aren't in any curriculum lol.

as someone who grew up with this show, (me and my bestie used to play riley and maya at recess in elementary school) i feel that one of the biggest problems is that all of the main characters feel like one-dimensional on paper character tropes that were seen in 90s/2000s media. like maya was essentially the peyton sawyer of the show, but without any of the depth. farkle was the "lovable" geek, lucas was the heartthrob, and riley was the dreamer. none of these characters were explored any more than these labels, leading to them feeling fake and annoying. the writers liked to pretend the characters had so much depth and nuance, but in reality, there wasn't any because they didn't take the time to explore any of it

They should have done the story the same way bmw, from very young age to adulthood. They had the opportunity to make a show that could be more consistent with the development, and feels like a good continuation of bmw, also make a better arc for Eric, he was fun but too goofy by the last season. Also backstreet boys is forever. And dang they turned Cory into a generic stupid dcom father

Girl Meets World was doomed as soon as it was on Disney. I know they own the rights. But off the bat they were doing references to Boy Meets World, when the kids watching Disney then either never seen or weren't even born during the reruns of BMW. Another channel could have used the original actors to pass the touch so to speak in the first season then go on. Also Disney is too hands on and when the writers pushed back they moved the show all around times then cancelled it. They didn't want kids to grow with the characters, they just wanted the same generic show that just keeps kids.

The show didn't age with it's cast like the original did. GMW was 3 years of BMW's first season. It's already kind of cringey when you have 7th graders acting like 5th graders, it's terrible when you have 9/10th graders acting like that. Also having Auggie be the "eric" of the show was a problem. Giving the younger brother as much screen time as Eric, meant the show almost always had 5 minutes of a kid. They should have treated him like Morgan (sparsly used) and had Josh living with the Matthews as if he was Eric(the cool older relative). Josh shouldn't have been a guest star, he should have been a regular (at least for the first season, until Zay and Smackle joined the crew).

The show wasn’t as dark so it felt to happy unrealistic far as I can tell every episode had a good ending but in boy meets world sometimes the episode wasn’t happy go lucky in the end it was such a huge deal when Cory and topanga broke up or Shawn had a fight with Cory the show had the courage to show the issues kids suffered with at the age Cory was wanting to be grown up and make money wanting to spend time with and older brother who’s growing up and experiencing hormones and not knowing where you fit in or what your good at Cory wanting to be average as a kid and after as a teen wanting to find his distinguishing qualities boy meets world a kid stuck in the middle of the world where everyone has something and the only thing you have is your close connections with others Cory never knew where he fit in he knew he liked Shawn and respected him but realizing he needed a moral compass Cory was such a good character where what defined his character was his impact on others but Riley failed this everything she did was because she wanted guidance from others the problem was with her that there was no change I liked her character she seemed like Cory and with better writing I feel Riley really could emulate a younger Cory but most episodes centered around other characters and made it so it didn’t seem likely Riley grew some while in boy meets world though episodes would center around other characters it would also center around Cory why boy meets world works compared to girl meets world is because boy meets world was able to perfectly balance Cory and who ever the episode was about sure there is episodes all about Shawn but you can argue that the episode was about Cory because both characters were equally balanced while in a girl meets world episode you get an episode about farkle or maya but the episode can’t be described any other way. You can’t say Riley was the main centered focus in a maya centered episode as it was boy meets world and a Shawn centered episode but you can say Cory was an equal role to the episode as much as Shawn was you can argue that this was the point where Cory showed that he saw Shawn as a brother not just his best friend or you can argue that this was the point Shawn didn’t feel like he belonged to anyone and I referring to the cult fiction episode it felt such as impactful either way because Shawn was family not just a friend Shawn was clearly happy and felt included but Cory felt he was being brainwashed and that he lost his brother if Cory didn’t feel this way he would’ve let Shawn live his life with the cult but he didn’t he actively tried to protect him and steer him away

So I started rewatching the first few episodes of season 1 just to see why I loved the show and oh my gosh it’s so hard to sit through an episode and not cringe the entire time. Riley acts so clueless, Auggie was annoying like I remembered, Lucas is boring, even Corey and Topanga’s interactions were weird at times. The only episodes I enjoyed was when the BMW characters would guest star. Other than that I couldn’t continue to watching or finishing the first season. It’s either the writing or the way the actors deliver it. Most likely both.

These kinds of older sitcoms always seemed to make more relatable jokes and pop culture references, especially the 90s shows and early naughts. The newer shows, especially on Disney Channel, can't be ironic to save a life. I remember Cory once made a reference to Beevis and Butthead, the audience applause. Lizzie Maguire can reference Orlando Bloom and it works. Show me a modern Disney sitcom that can make any pop culture reference with a good punchline. You can't because it doesn't exist.

Those classroom scenes were so unrealistic. I mean rhe same students in all the classes or a student we see just one time & never again. Also Corey should've been promoted during the high school season. Plus the whole "shipping" thing was getting out of hand. BTW Sean & Angela forever.

My opinion is probably really biased since I'm a neurodivergent who found a lot of comfort in GMW but there is once criticism I hear floated that I definitely agree with: Girl Meets World seemed to constantly stray between being a Boy Meets World 'sequel'/years later/etc and its own separate show. There'd be some episodes that were pretty much entirely about an original character or characters but then there'd be some episodes where it'd just be Cory & Topanga, but then pretty much every episode had Riley, Maya, Lucas & Farkle but then you had Smackle and Zay getting introduced later down the line and quite a few side characters in different episodes (in the school), so that was the main portion of the show. Ultimately, I think it tried too hard to be both a sequel and a new show, and the Boy Meets World aspect got left behind, which alienates most of the audience who are watching the show with nostalgia hopes

Girl Meets World will never be as good as it’s predecessor, Boy Meets World actually had likable characters, and overall a more interesting and likable main protagonist, Cory unlike Riley had character development and had a more relatable personality, he was surrounded by more interesting characters and the show had Mr. Feeny, he WAS the show, GMW never really captured that same charm.

Not sure why you do a video on GMW but then tiptoe around why it's so bad. The outrageous brightly colored sets, the writing is not funny, the cast does not deliver the lines well, in a way that feels humorous or heartfelt. It started with a family audience the audience grew with the show. I started watching it when I was a kid because of reruns on ABC Family and yes it was still called that at the time and late night on Disney Channel then the first season came to dvd this was the time old 70s 80s 90s shows were first coming to DVD I got season one of Boy Meets World on my 8th birthday along with the first season of fresh prince of bel air and Bad Boys 2 which was new to DVD at the time. I also got the back to the future trilogy that year. Anyway🎉 I think it resented with kids of anytime even though looking back it was totally 90s and I was born in 95 so I don’t really even remember the 90s I was 4 for three months in 1999. But a lot of people found it when it came to syndication and people are still finding it to this day.

Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the evil in this world, God is full of justice, mercy and love. Justice said we broke His perfect law - causing the world's previous perfection to be destroyed - and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don't think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing - regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others - which is murder in God's perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die". BUT, mercy said "I dont want to give them what they deserve. I don't want them to be cut off from Me. I love them despite all they have done/will do against Me. I want to give My children another chance. I want them to come home and live in My love again". And love said "Jesus, God's Son, came down as a Man, our representative, suffering every temptation, pain and struggle we have ever faced, yet without sin. He took all our sins (past/present/ even future) to the cross and then crucified EVERY ONE on our behalf. Justice was paid on the cross so that we can be free from Hell's punishment, experience Gods mercy of forgiveness of sin and live in His love. If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (turn away from our sin and pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us back into that previously perfect image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life. He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it. He doesn't want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through Him (not ourselves as it's impossible without depending on His power and instruction). So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to obey His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and ask Him to help us in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, or struggling or doubtful, simply be honest and tell Him that. He is not intimidated by ANY sin or struggle you are facing. ANY. He hears and will answer. If we pray for Him to come in, regardless of the condition, then He will. NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. EVER. If you have any questions let me know.

Boy Meets World had way too many inconsistencies. For one, in 1993 Cory was 11, placing his birth year in 1982, but he graduated in 1998, so at 16? How they all met was changed up. Boy Meets World is crap and this is from someone who grew up with this show. Nostalgia does weird things to people.

1. Gender bias in the first show. But it depends I became an enduring character 2. Boy Meets World is not as good as you think it is. It's like a gag. The same scenario setup over and over again only more extreme. No, the characters do not change or it takes an air rationale for years for them to get to the next step. They were not well-rounded. And Amy seem more like a sidekick Echo she was not a fully developed character and Eric's character completely decorated to a cartoon. The main characters had excellent chemistry. 3. Girl Meets World only focused on two characters. Morgan should have been a main character instead of a fixture. Jason should not have been there. 4. It dragged out old shows. So they didn't have their own script as much as they try to capitalize on Old plots in the other show. 5. The show set seems very claustrophobic.
