Good info...you just solved a small hinge mystery for me...3/8inset!!

Great Video. I have the problem . But, the painter contractor thre out the old hinges. He said that these were still available at a big box store. , they weren't. My hinges have a 3/8 inset, with a 5/8 hip. They hinges I thought were it, I now see the face "part" of the hinge does sit lower . Thank you for pointing this out.

I just reviewed your video. I’m interested in finding more information about the old catalogues you mentioned. I need to replace a flush mount overlay hinge from circa 1985. The hinges available today are the same size so to speak, but the screw pattern is not compatible with existing holes on the door. Please advise

My inset on my 1973 cabinets is a 1/4in inset & 3/8 overlay, and it seems they don’t make these anymore. I don’t know what to do.

Hello Richard, I’ve been looking for a type of hinge and I can’t seem to find it. My cabinet door is just like in this video here, except the hinge is mounted on the outside of the door and the outside of the cabinet itself. It has that same “lightning bolt” shape (I’m not sure how to describe it) but both parts of the hardware are mounted on the outside. Do you happen to know what type of hinge that is? Thank you!

Is there a version of these hinges that won’t show. I am considering painting & changing hinges, but they all look so dated. When you paint and update and you’re left with vintage looking hinges the update looks half done. I wish there was something better looking or not as visible you could use instead.
