Evening Oscar since I posted about the Blue Pullman with the ribbed wheels i had a thought i purchased a diesel 2 car set ages ago which had with new shaller flanges on the wheels, so i swoped the motor unit over and it runs even better now , I've changed all the wheels on the other coaches and the dummy end, thanks again John

Thanks Oscar, great stuff, I like the idea of using the Triang utility van as a converter, I have a Wrenn utility van that converts easily to the Dublo coupling and looks great with a rake of Dublo coaches hauled by a Triang loco.

Hi Oscar, great video again. Some wonderful market stall finds there. Isn't it lovely when you just stumble across things in that way, much more satisfying than just buying things of eBay. Its as if you are rescuing them for preservation! Like Martin from Hull, i also have an early all green 08 shunter, they make a wonderful noise don't they, must be all that space in the body allows the sound of the motor to reverberate. Thanks Oscar, take care. Regards, Antony.😊

Good morning Oscar, it's Martin from Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Just watched your excellent video. I love everything about your railway, it's a great railway. I love your class 08 shunter in black without the wasp stripes. I have one just the same apart that mine is green instead of black. I love all the different types of wagons, coaches, locomotives and stations. You have a wonderful railway. I remember when I started work on BR in 1970 one of the men in the railway goods yard also had a model railway as well. From what i can remember it was apparently mostly Triang Hornby. I often wonder what happened to it all. When he passed his wife apparently threw everything into the dust bin😢 she didn't like model railways and was always complaining about his railway collection. He had a big collection of railway items with working on the railways. Clocks, station name signs ect. All apparently went in the bin. What a nightmare. That would have been about 1972. But luckily we can still see your amazing railway Oscar. Well I am going to make a cup of tea and toast. I forgot to get tea cakes yesterday when I was in Asda😢. Keep safe Oscar and have a good week and I will see you next Sunday. 👍🚂☕

@@oscarpaisley Hello Oscar, yes I enjoy your videos immensely, they are always very interesting and informative. It's always interesting to go somewhere and find something witch could be useful on your railway, whether it be station buildings, wagons, coaches etc, they can always be kept as spares or use parts off them to repair items. I have recently had to buy a new mobile phone as my old phone wasn't connecting to the Internet. My new phone is 5G and seams to be working better. And I am finding new things to do with my phone each day. Unfortunately I am a bit off a technical dinosaur, Lol. Anyway, keep safe Oscar 👍🚂🚃

Good morning John, great to hear you've got the two cars to go with the blue Pullman an amazing set that blue running around the railway. This black shunter in the video has the solid wheels and wheel flanges are really quite deep, some of the ones made from the mid 60s on have much better flanges and will run on the later track with less issues. Excellent finds at your local market, I enjoying trawling charity shops and boot sales when I get the chance, don’t know why but seems more enjoyable than just using that well known auction site. Whilst on holiday I visited 8 charity shops and came away with one open wagon and one van missing its roof !

I live in the United States, so although my family visits the UK every few years, chances to visit hobby shops in the UK, much less go bargain hunting, are few and far between. The Triang Co-Bo has caught my eye, along with the Transcontinental range (which, as an American, I enjoy as a quaint and whimsical take on generic American outline), but I’m scared by how wildly the prices for tri-ang models seem to fluctuate on American eBay (yes, for sold listings), so I think more research is warranted. And sadly, it doesn’t look like many Co-Bo’s are finding their way across the Atlantic. :(

@@Charmaster04the. Transcontinental range was a really interesting idea to try an get an American/Canadian/ Australian/Indian railway out of a single range of models. It seems in those days the consumers imagination could fill in the gaps and cover over the inconsistencies- nowadays everyone has a lazy brain and needs a perfect reproduction!

I am amazed at the wheels on the R 152 shunters? I'm sure that Tri-ang used all of slightly "out of round" wheels up on those locos that they had? They often seem to 'waddle' around the yards on uneven wheels? I have 4 of them, and each one has at least one "out of round wheel"? They still work pretty good though. A loco with mk. 2 couplers was probably made somewhere between 55 and 58.. So that's a loco that is still running, at over 60 years old? For a loco that will last that long, I can live with "wobbly wheels"?? So much fun to be had with these old models, that I wonder if modern collectors know what they are missing? Thank you Oscar, for flying the flag for the early days of model railroading.. It's great to watch.

Every time I see comments like this, I fear that my Hornby Q1 will be all worn out in twenty years. :( People keep remarking how long these vintage models have lasted, but if people think these Tri-Ang and Wrenn models will still be running in another 60 years, surely a fifteen year old model that has been lightly used for a few hours of running can also survive 60 years of average use… right?
@oscarpaisley
@oscarpaisley 3 ай бұрын
Good morning Robin, the wheels used on the rolling stock, especially the earliest stuff are far from round in many instances and some have dents (hollow spots) in from the moulding process. But as you say, the items still seem to work and provided great fun. All the best. Oscar

Hi Oscar, Great play session and 08 shunters are my favourite, I have 5 including the early black one, HD 2rail and up to the later more colourful models. Impressive changeover to two railways 👏 Switches are not my strong point and wondered if there was a website to explain the range of toggle switches and is it possible, without spending too much time, to make direct comparison to the black, yellow and green Triang/Hornby lever switches. TIA, Gordon
@oscarpaisley
@oscarpaisley 3 ай бұрын
Good morning Gordon sounds like a great collection of Shas you have. I don’t have the HD version yet. I’m on the lookout. I quite like those Tri-ang Hornby lever switches but they are not as accurate in operation as the micro switches.

Pity that the triang rolling stock doesnt really like the 3 rail trackwork. Ive often seen Triang rollingstock that Ive thought about running on my 3 rail layout. Ive never really thought of the tinplate track as finescale. But thats an interesting bit of information. The class 08 came out quite nice considering you said it was once painted blue, amazing those decals survived like that. Nice little pickups from the local market.

Hi thanks again for looking in. I think some of the late 60s Tri-ang Hornby items with the slightly finer wheels will run quite nicely on the 3 rail. Most of these early items I'm running at the moment have a very deep wheel flanges. All the best. Oscar

Hi Oscar, quick question. When were the MK3 couplings introduced to Tri-ang/Hornby? I actually have one of R113 and R.16. My R.16 is still in regular use, but because of the old brittle plastic, my R113's drop sides are glued shut, and inside it has a weight from an old Lima loco. It weighs close to 600 maybe 700 grams, so I use it for load testing.

Whoops. I accidentally deleted one of my comments. I didn’t realize the track on the bridges was only supported at the ends. On your older layout it looked like each section of track was fully supported, and you were already worried about the Co-Bo and West Country Class running over them regularly. Do you ever run them over the bridge now? (The West Country/Battle of Britain Class and Merchant Navy Class are among my favorite steam engines in their original form. I also love the Q1, which I own. I’m probably one of the few people whose least favorite member of the big four is the LNER; Bullied’s Austerity designs impress me far more than the A3 or A4, and the first LNER engine I really like is the J50 tank engine.)
@oscarpaisley
@oscarpaisley 2 ай бұрын
Hi, the Cobo and the West country will run on the current elevated track quite nicely. The suspension bridge on previous layout got a bit wobbly in the middle section with those two locomotives. Those Bullied austerity designs seem quite pleasing to the eye to me, and from what I read about some of the mechanical innovations introduced at the time, these may have been let down by materials and production techniques employed in the period. It would be a stunning project and very expensive I imagine if a contemporary Battle of Britain was constructed using 21st-century materials and production techniques trying to stay as close as possible to the original design as possibly but being refined by the aid of computerised modelling, for improvements in the overall design and operation the original principles. All the best. Oscar
