A Day at Old Yankee Stadium - April 22, 2001.
This video highlights a day at Yankee stadium from arrival to the end of the game, a quick sequence of scenes providing the Yankee Stadium experience on a Sony mini-DV cam (top of the line in it's day).
My dad and I took in a sunny spring Sunday day game in our season ticket seats in Sec. 306, Row E (I think). The New York Yankees faced the Boston Red Sox at the original Yankee Stadium, debuting Ted Lilly a Yankee rookie.
The game went 10 innings with Mariano giving up a run in the 10th but Paul O'Neill hit a clutch homerun to tie and the David Justice one out later hit a walk off home run to win the game 4-3 and send the fans home happy.
Video edited as a gift for my dad's 80th birthday. This was a good day to share with my dad.

Lifelong Red Sox fan, living in Florida, who just visited New York and took a tour of the new Yankee Stadium. And while it’s very nice and looks very comfortable for the spectators, it certainly lacks the aura and intimidation factor of the old place. I was so glad I was able to see nine games in original Yankee Stadium. After the tour, my wife, daughter and I walked on the old stadium grounds which is just across the street. I actually had a few tears in my eyes thinking about all the great baseball and all the great players that played on that spot. I can’t imagine how I would feel if they ever tore down Fenway Park . I think baseball lost a lot when old Yankee Stadium was taken to the ground. After all, it was the iconic House that Ruth built. 😢

I'm 25 years old and have been to a total 31 Yankee games as a fan. I went to 9 total games at the old Yankee Stadium from 2003-2008. Even though the new stadium has been around in my life longer than the old one, it really can't measure up to the mystique, aura, charm and beauty that was found daily at the House that Ruth built. Still miss it to this day. (I also miss that old Utz Potato Chips ad in right-centerfield).

As a Mets fan I appreciate this video in more ways than 1. Old yankee stadium had a different feel the second you walked through the doors. You felt the history. I truly enjoyed and miss pre 9/11 days. New Yorkers as a whole were just doing way better, the city was incredible. The quality of this video for 21 years ago is great the colors and everything look awesome, seeing the players in their primes who are now all retired, I watched MLB then as a Mets fan but seeing all of these players from a fan perspective here was pretty damn awesome. Good job and hope you’re doing great.

I agree. I think the world was just better pre-9-11 but I'm biased. The 1990s just felt better. I've read a lot about how bad NYC has become but the New York that I remember was that of the late 1990's. I've been in Arizona since 2004... drove away on the day of yet another orange alert (which shut down the city every time one was declared) and felt the relief as I left. I love NY but my NY is time stamped to the era of the dynasty Yankees and the Knicks of Ewing, Starks and Oakley. I appreciate your comments and am glad that you and so many others appreciate the video.

Nice job on this video. I have attended all 3 versions of Yankee Stadium 1st game 4/30/67 DH vs Angels. Mickey hit 2 including a walk off 3 run shot bottom of the 10th. Also attended Mickey Mantle Day 6/8/69. Last game was in Sept of 1973 (prior to rennovation). Attended zero games at Shea (74-75). Attended 100s of games at the renovated version (one in this video including many playoff & 1 world series. The George Bush 1st pitch game (post 9/11) later this year of this video. Attended 2 games on 2009 at the new YS & never returned. Huge mistake in my opinion in tearing down this cathedral of baseball. Have since moved away . NYC has gone to the dogs. You can have it. Amazing. I live in Orange County. Such vivid memories of my dad taking us kids down to Shea or Yankee Stadium for a day game. Going over Tappan Zee bridge, he’d always point downstream and tell us to look for the twin towers. It was a coin toss at that time in the morning, as the fog would occasionally block view of the WTC. Old Yankee and Shea were truly awesome stadiums. Nosebleeds were angled so steeply, when you’d walk up or down to your seat it felt like you could slip and go overboard to the field below lol. It’s actually terrifying to sit and think how fast time goes. Feels like yesterday. Not 20+ years ago. Thanks for the memories.

The Yankees should of just built a new stadium over top the old one and played games somewhere else for the time it takes to build the new stadium, even if it does take 5 years or more. I understand old Yankee Stadium had been renovated and alot was different from the Ruth era but how awesome would it have been to be in the same vicinity as all that history. From Ruth and Gehrig to Mantle and all the Yankee greats. Im not even a Yankee fan but their history is too notch. I guess every era or generation will have to move on and a new era will always rise. Who knows maybe one day people will be watching this video and be intrigued just like we are when we see old footage from a bygone era.

What a wonderful video of friends having a great day at an historic ballpark. This is so beautiful. After a visit to the Hall of Fame, I got to take my son there the year it closed. It was fan appreciation day and they gave us a really cool stuffed bear emblazoned with the NY logo. Walking into that stadium with my then young son was magical. Then Bob Shepard’s voice broke through the overcast day. It was like God himself was speaking. I glanced over at my son, so naive to it all, and got emotional. He was 9. He went on to be drafted by Tampa Bay 9 years later. I’ll never forget that day and I hope he never does, either. (Side note-we live in Arizona. I was at all four home games of the ‘01 World Series. Sorry Yanks fans but we know how that one ended. I’m a journalist and was able to be in both clubhouses following the Gonzales walk off. Despite the loss, it was the classiest pro sports clubhouse I’ve ever been in. Seeing Joe Torre in the managers office was like seeing the chairman of the board of a major corporation - complete class despite a crushing loss. Another unforgettable Yankee moment.)

My very first game was at the end of August 1964 - the original park. Yanks against the Red Sox. Yanks won 9 to 3, Mick hit one out as did Hector Lopez in for Roger Maris. When they renovated the stadium in 75 and 76 people said the same thing. It didn't feel the same. Even Joe Di said it was no longer Yankee Stadium. The place still grew on people. Give the new park a chance.

Very cool. Thanks. Miss the old place. So many fun times there. The current stadium simply not the same. It's a band box. The old stadium, with the porch and death valley gave the Yanks an edge. The current one really gives the Yanks no advantage. All the other teams can come in and light up the place.

That's great and look forward to watching. But what would really be cool is some footage on original Yankee Stadium before they cannibalized it in 76-77. I made a tape of the old one on a cracker box 8mm movie camera in about '68 but only a few minutes long. I was standing right on top of Mike Kekich warming up in the pen!

I went to Yankee stadium for the 1st and last time near the end of September of 01. Went with my family being the Only Yankee fan among Oriole fans to see one of Cal Ripken's Jr last games at YS. Saw ground zero, just an eerie feeling being the city post 9/11.

I appreciate the feedback. I believe it was a Sony TRV 27. I only recently retrieved the mini DVD tape from archives and edited in Adobe premiere. The video and audio was not restored in editing after it was batch captured via fire wire.

I remember in 1961/62 seeing double headers in the Original Yankee Stadium, where that facade graced the third/top deck and when Mantle hit it in rigth field. And the monuments were in play. When you were not afraid of getting robbed and shot returning to the parling lot and finding the car just as you left it,in one piece. When after the game if you had cought a Yankee Home Run, you could get it signed by the Yank that hit it. I got one hit by Elston Howard, what a great person he was.Talked to Yogi with my uncle Bob in left field when he played ther after Howard became $1 catcher and Yanks wanted his bat. Yogi turned around and started talikng to us, as some body ffrom the Tigers cracked a shot down the left field line.Lucky for Yogi it was a ground rule double and no one was on base. I can still smell the place like I can still smell Palisades Park .Never leaves you.

At least the Knicks made it to the playoffs vs the Raptors in 2001. I remember watching the games at the sports bar inside of Camden Yards the weekend that the Yankees swept the O's when Moose made his first start back to C.Y. as a Yankee. Great place to catch a game if your other team is playing concurrently. Bummer of a series. Lost in 5.
