We don’t work 9 to 5 and our office doesn’t have windows or doors. Instead, our day starts before the sun comes up and we are anywhere from 3 to 20 miles offshore by 9 am depending on the trip. This trip was a short 4 hour reef trip that we spent fishing for snappers with a family of 5. Some days are spent at the reefs while others we will be running around offshore for our 6 or 8 hour charters in search for mahi, tuna, and pelagic fish. We created this video to show you what a typical half day charter entails! What we didn’t include was the time spent setting and pulling live bait traps, fishing for live bait, or the many many stops to the tackle and bait stores.

The most important thing, at least for me, is you are your own boss doing what you love! It takes courage to step out on your own. I will tell you, based upon 45 years in the work force, your job is 1000 times better, with less stress, than working in a cube farm. Let happiness guide your life not the accumulation of things.

Some fish bags (thermal), a mini flat head shovel with handle, and a ice maker. A decent one is around $600, but if you get ice everyday you will quickly get it back.

Older video I am catching up on here but felt the need to comment to people. I own a boat. I still charter every chance I get for the reason they did not highlight enough in this video. The prep work for the trip and the closeout of the trip is far beyond what most people see. I have friends and read on forums and posts people complaining about spending 500 to 700 for a 5-6 hour fishing trip. Between fuel, bait, rigs, rods, boat maintenance and insurance charter boats are not high profit businesses. They can make a living at it but the majority of them do it for the love and joy of fishing and seeing other people fish. I am friends with dozens of captains and can tell you they all look forward to seeing their clients on fish. Tips are where they actually make money. The cost of the trip covers ice, bait, fuel and a little money toward the boat and a very small amount in their pocket. Tips are like buying them dinner for their hard work. Always tip well!!!!
@GaleForceTwins
@GaleForceTwins 4 жыл бұрын
Very very true!! A lot more happens behind the scenes. Thanks for watching! We actually redid this video a year later and made sure to put more of the prep into it.

Don't forget trips out in the boat burning fuel and time to catch bait, and those non-paying trips have the same load in and out. I can't believe people complain about the price. It's not a head boat with 50 people on it. You get a lot more choices when you charter a boat too - of course depending on what's biting - but what do you want to fish for, an how you want to do it... and you get a captain that fishes every day and knows what's going on at any given moment too? totally worth it.
@richardc-ex7rt
@richardc-ex7rt 3 жыл бұрын
The people complaining don’t see an owner up late the night before prepping, or still cleaning the boat after they have already dozed off at home.

Amen. I took several “non fishing” members of my family on an offshore trip in Costa Rica that I paid for. First they thought I was nuts for what I paid. Then they got indignant when they found out a good tip is customary. The silver lining was everyone had such a great time and caught fish. By the end of the day they were all fighting over who got to be the one to give the guys a good 25% tip!

My closest friend on my HS track team was the pole vaulter. I was a shot putter. He was a state champ in his junior year, faulted out in senior year. The most identifiable trait he possessed was his focus and poise. He was a quiet guy but it was more than that. I could see the deep concentration he had to muster to put himself in the air at the end of a pole. It takes more then mere courage and of course the physical strength. His hand grip was to be feared. You Lady's on the other hand, are not shy and in fact are very energetic and out going. Some might say giddy at times. But those that know and can see. See your deep inner strength in the quiet moments. It is it's own FORCE, and very impressive, to say the least.

I buy 36.8% permethrin and dilute it to 0.05%. Spray that around the perimeter of the house, under eaves, perimeter spray the yard - you won't have a mosquito or no see um problem anymore. I live in PBC, and the last spray lasted about 6 weeks. I could walk outside at dusk shirtless and not get bit. You can spray it on a lot of animals too, but NOT your cat because they lick themselves all the time.

Do most charters buy chum or make their own from the filet carcasses? Seems like a vitamix would come in handy but maybe it's not as good chum or you could never make enough. Also, how much does a 1/2 charter on a boat like yours usually cost? How many people do you take out at a time? I would love to go out on one if I ever get to Florida.
