As a Brit I enjoy your channel immensely and was surprised and delighted to see you pull out The Slider. I bought this back in '72 as a 13 year old and still have my OG first UK pressing. Just as a FYI at 11:45 you mention the cover photographs were taken by Ringo Starr, I know the liner credits say Ringo Starr but they were in fact taken by Tony Visconti. Marc Bolan was friends with Ringo (he filmed the movie Born To Boogie) and Bolan just wanted the kudos of having the name of a Beatle on one of his albums.

Cool! I just listened to a great podcast with Tony - he talked about Bolan quite a bit.

The SLIDER is the T REXasy machine firing on all cylinders. Tony Visconti knew Bolan and bowie and how to glam them to a gorgeous frenzy. Good job again Tim

I recently picked up a Harman Kardon 330c receiver - and it sounds great. I’d still like to find a 730 in good condition, but it seems like they’re getting harder to find.

I like running both a vintage rig in my office and a more modern setup in my main listening area. There is something to be said for that older warm sound that vintage gear provides.

Hard to imagine pulling the Mac! but I'm sure that Harman Kardon is cooking quite nicely. From what I remember, The Slider UK press is quite a different mix and overall sound to the US reprise. Can't remember the exact details but I believe it was quite a departure.

That Quiex Donald Fagen 12" single is very impressive. 🔥 I bet it does sound terrific. Great advice at the end. Allowing stereo equipment to sit around unused for long periods of time is just asking for trouble. Have a great week. 😀

I picked up the exact receiver a few years ago. I also picked up a quadraphonic just out of interest. Along with those a TD-145. I haven’t powered up any of them after this cross my fingers I should get on this. Great review of records on this Jazz Journey just picked up Chet, getting into Thelonious Monk and Bill Evans. Was able to pick up the titles from your last review. Thank You

The Harmon Kardon Quadrophonic 75+ is up and running on a pair of Boston Acoustic A150 speakers. The sound is very nice. The Harmon Kardon 730 and TD-145 is out for restoration. Now the big question I’m looking at investing in a pair of Klipsch Heritage Heresy IV at 3200.00 a pair. What’s the difference? I’m enjoying the A150 125.00 a pair on Marketplace there Mint! One other question how do you split 2 turntables on the same receiver, amp, speakers? Thank You
@Universityofvinyl
@Universityofvinyl 3 ай бұрын
@@brianmedeiros6845 Congrats! Both of my receivers have inputs for two turntables and you can switch between both using the selector knob on front. Klipsch are horn speakers so a different “live” in the room sound typically. I hear mixed reviews on the Heresy line TBH. Look for used Cornwalls or Fortes for $2k or less. Those BA’s are no slouch!

Got Vintage Audio? Yes I have a Kenwood KA-7300 integrated amplifier and matching KT-7300 tuner both working. The amp needs a little servicing it makes some crackling sound when I adjust volume or change inputs, but still works very well. The amp has dual power supply(separate left & right amps). Also have some other pieces, I love them I can’t let go of them. Just picked up the DF 12” single “New Frontier” “The Goodbye Look” it sounds great. I’m enjoying your videos keep up the good work..👍

I like the Harman Kardon 730 behind you Tim. I have owned a few of those over the years and currently have an HK 930 which pre dated yours. It was also twin powered. I also have a Luxman R1050; another great receiver. I have owned some Marantz recievers as well including the 2275, my fav. That record show looked good, lots of vendors. BTW Tim, when you switch on your 730, make sure the speaker switch is depressed or off. Wait a few minutes or less then press the speaker switch in. The reason I say this because the 730 receiver can leak DC from the power supply, which causes that low rumble sound of the woofer being pulled in by the DC. The power supply ELAN (high quality capacitors) tend to leak in the 730 if they are the original caps due to age. As you might know, DC leakage can damage your speakers, they like AC, and those Klipsch are not fused right? That promo 12" of The Nightfly is a find. I would like to get that one. I have the Mobile Nightfly One Step, which sounds great.

Thanks so much for the heads up on that *Tracy Chapman • Crossroads* release, Sir. One I now feel so daft for passing by, considering I have seen it many a time both at record shops & thrift stores here in *Toronto.* One more thing to, if I may? What might be the brand name of the hat you are sporting in this video be? Asking cause’ for someone like myself who rarely steps outside of my front door without some type/style of lid on my dome, I really do dig the Southwestern/Native American vibe of the horizontal stripes on the crown of it. Thanks, in advance. Wish you & yours a lovely start to yet another new week. Cheers!!!

Hi Tim, it's been a while since I've talked to you. This is Brian down in Fort Worth. I finally got my dad's McIntosh gear recently. He bought it brand new back in the late '60s to maybe very early '70s. I've been trying to get this gear from him since I was about 18 and I'm about to turn 57 and he finally let me have it. It's been probably since 1991 when it was last turned on and even powered up. I don't think he's turned it on since I used it down in Houston before I moved up to Fort Worth in 91. He bought it new back in the day when I was a kid and then somewhere around 1974-1975 he really quit listening to it. It didn't get a lot of use after that until we moved from New Orleans to Houston where I pulled it out and hooked it up when he was out of town one week. Needless to say he got very upset with me but he didn't make me put it up either. I just didn't get to hardly ever use it or listen to it but I can still remember the incredible sound. I've always strived to find something that would even come close to that McIntosh sound. And now I have the opportunity to finally own it. Here's what he gave me. The MR 71 FM tuner, the C 26 solid state stereo preamplifier, and the MC 2505 solid state amplifier. I also got the Roberts reel to reel recorder/player from him and there's some more gear that's down in Houston that I can pick up when I have a chance. But I don't even want to plug anything in until I can have it looked at. I don't know if it will need recapping but since it likely hasn't even been turned on since 1991 I would imagine it might. The only tube component is the FM receiver. But here's my concern. I'm legally blind and of course I'm going to have to have someone else do the work. But I have no earthly idea how much it should cost for someone to check and see if the equipment will need any work. I'm also concerned about getting good quality parts if I do need to have work done on it and not some Chinese capacitors, transistors, etc. I may have to save a while to send it off if there's any reputable shops I learn about? Do you have any recommendations? Do you think that it would be dangerous to the equipment to plug it in and see if it all works right now? One last question I have that I wanted to ask you is this. Do you have any tips or recommendations for finding the right place/person to go through and check everything? Are there any questions I might should ask that I'm just not aware of? And last but not least, and I know you can't be specific or know for sure, but do you have any idea what kind of costs I may be looking at for getting this kind of work done or even just getting the equipment looked at? Thanks for any help if you're able to provide any and I will keep a lookout for any replies. I'm hoping I can find something like the event you have in your video and find some good, vintage, and working speakers. I've got a few pair of my own but needless to say they need a little work to be back in shape 👍 Brian in Fort Worth 🎶

Love those early ABC pressings Tim. Just wondering if you've had the opportunity to preview any of the early Canadian ABC pressings. My Steely Dan collection is pretty much all Canadian 1st pressings. Which means a few of them are dynaflex. An easy way to distinguish the first pressing on those early Canadian Steely Dan's. And they sound very good to my ears. Better than the 2nd or 3rd press non dynaflex. At least within Canadian pressings. Cheers to another informative video. Love that vintage Harmon Kardon! Brad.

I almost purchased a copy of Tracy Chapman self titled a few years back when they were still reasonably priced. Unfortunately I passed thinking I'll pick one up eventually which turned out to be a mistake. Hopefully a repressed is in the near future. Tim I know you updated your Nagaoka 110 to the 200. I was wondering if there was an improvement if any.
