Broon's Bane is one of the most beautifully crafted songs I've ever heard.

Some folks don't know that Alex actually took classical guitar lessons for a couple of years. He can actually read music and sit down and play Bach pieces and such. And he advises anyone who is interested in guitar to start with classical because it will teach you the "technique and discipline" (his own words) to go on to all other forms of music. This advice is from the most "spontaneous" musician in Rush.
@aylbdrmadison10516 жыл бұрын
All those years ago I actually didn't know he suggested this, verbally. But he and Jimmy Page were my first "guitar teachers", and from Alex especially I got that about learning classical just from listening to him play.

Alex took 1 year and half of classical guitar lessons.

@@Kidgloves1984 THANK YOU! Yea, this is not correct at ALL and even Alex has stated on NUMEROUS occasion's that he is not even close to proficient on Classical
@scarycrazymann Жыл бұрын
@@DJRushX1 lots of people aren't close to proficient. Doesn't mean it's not a valuable skill in learning classical guitar.

Are you kidding me? This is absolutely fantastic!! You sir are one fine musician!!!. My fantasy as a teenager growing up consisted of listening to the exit stage left live album pretending to be Alex Lifeson. This brings back such fabulous memories. You rock dude!!!

LOL, I thought I was the only one who did that as a teen! I would alternate between Geddy and Alex. Then I actually took up the bass, and never looked back.

Great job! Broon's Bane has always been one of my favorite Rush pieces. Too bad it never became part of a longer song. ALways loved the transition from it to "The Trees"on Exit Stage left. Rush - so many things about you are hard to explain. What a body of work!!!! Thank you.

@Cymro 65 Thanks for the info. I'm so glad it made it onto an album, but I could never understand why it wasn't on a studio album. I would love to hear more acoustic material from Alex.

@Cymro 65 I feel a great connection to this band and the music they created. Love the history. Thanks! On my side - My family lived in Quebec for 2 years in the mid-70's. My aunt and uncle live a couple of blocks away from Le Studio. So when I was back for a holiday in the late 70's, I was able to take a tour through the place. Didn't know anything about studios at the time, but it was magical - or overwhelming. Every time I went back, in subsequent years, I would walk down to the old place and have a look around. Pretty sad that vandals got the best of it. My cousin has some great stories about the bands that recorded there. My aunt still lives there.

@Cymro 65 Back in high school, a friend lent me a bunch of albums. 'All the World's A Stage' was one of them. Really loved the long instrumental piece in the middle of "By-Tor.." I bought the albums one by one after that and was never disappointed. I love all kinds of music, but when I get into a Rush phase, I can't listen to anything else with the same interest.

Might sound a little silly, but, in all of Alex Lifeson's guitar compositions and songwriting over his entire career, there are many great, and inspiring pieces. This has always been ONE of my favorites. By far, Mr. Lifeson and his bandmates have contributed so much to the world. Countless gorgeous works... this one has a special place in my heart and mind. Beautiful. You've done a wonderful job playing this special piece.

Beautiful. Very inspirational to hear these played so well. Thank you for posting. ^-^ I proudly blame Alex for starting me on my journey to learning classical music. I started with Broon's Bane, then Bach's Bouree in E minor, and a couple years later transposing Bach and Pagannini violin solo's for electric guitar. Thank you Alex. You are, to this day, a huge inspiration and major influence.
