Neil Peart was my drumming hero. He was the type of prog rock drummer I always wanted to be. It's been years since his death, but I think I needed to do this video for myself, as a form of a public goodbye.
This is a video I edited together from sources around the internet. I produced the music as well.
I hope you enjoy it. It was fun to make.

All of you, with your kind comments, are much appreciated. Neil was, for me as well, a beacon of intellect and wisdom, both musically and philosophically. Only in my imagination am I such a drummer and lyricist. He had a clever and unique knack for both, with his ever changing percussion arrangements to his incredible ability to turn a sentence into a virtual syllabus of double or sometimes reversed meaning. Again, thanks so much for your kindness and grace. We, as Rush fans, are more of a kinship than mere single people. We love and enjoy the music of a group of three, built on the idea that music can be, and remain, an art form.

Neil Peart was no doubt a great musician. He was technically gifted, had a tremendous interest in other musical sounds and traditions, and composed great drum and percussion parts that complimented the music of Rush and the individual performances of Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson. But even he would admit that he was not the greatest drummer ever. HOWEVER, what a tremendous, empathetic, intelligent, contemplative, profound, generous person he was. His words, poetry, philosophy and books remain with us as a reminder that he wasn't just a musician. It is fitting he is being remembered for his prodigious humanity, and not just his prodigious talent.

If I had to pick just one song that not onlynsaved and inspired but became a theme for life and got me writing too, a song that never gets old for me, it's _The Enemy Within_ ... To you is it movement or is it action? Is it contact or just reaction? And you, revolution or just resistance? _Is it living, or just existence?_ Yeah you, it takes a little more persistence To get up and go the distance

Mr Peart had more influence on my maturation from adolescent to adult than any other human being on the planet. He instilled in me the rock-solid foundation of having a good character and a strong moral and personal conviction. “Cinderella man” and “A farewell to Kings,” and “Entre Nous” moved me in ways that I cannot explain. I am proud to be the person I am today, and I can attribute much if that to Neil’s positive outlook and messaging. I am not a drummer, but I picked up the bass guitar because if he and Glee's synchronicity. Neil’s vision of the musicality of the drums changed drumming forever, because he was so much more than just a metronome. He wasn’t ‘flashy’ just to be flashy, everything he did fit so perfectly into the feel and emotion for that moment. It’s so hard to explain- I can only try to verbalize this overwhelming emotion whenever I hear him play. I just want to say - “thank you Neil Peart. You made an enormous contribution to my growth as a person and as a man. I wish there was a way to convey my gratitude for your vision. All I can do is live my life to the best of my ability, while remembering that you helped to lay the foundation for my growth as a grateful and productive adult.”

< big sigh> I had to recount concert ticket stubs and rethink things. hard to believe we are knocking on 3 years since The Professor's passing. ~Mrs. commented a few days ago, we were driving and "No Body's Hero" came across my spotify, and apparently was I not air drumming the song note-for-note (her words) but tears were streaming down my face. "Hun? you OK?" Me: "yeah just one of the songs that really hits Me. I'm Fine" Her: " You are a horrible Liar, always have been" and kissed my cheek and held my head. My drumming started when I was 6 in 1974. Springfield, Illinois, the Illinois National Guard Armory. RUSH opened for KISS. I was not familiar with RUSH at all. 37 live shows, 3 live meets, hundreds or miles and hours driven. Thousands of hours invested in trying to learn songs that eclipsed, at least then, my feeble drumming brain. Suddenly it clicked. Roll the Bones and Presto, very close third Counterparts, opened my eyes to REAL drumming. On top of that Live in Rio and Frankfort re-opened my eyes to Alex and Geddy. I was truly blessed, as a musician, to meet "The Boys" 3 different times. one does not simply " chit-chat" with Alex, Geddy and Neil these guys are hillarious and so open. Again as both a musician and a drummer of pushing 48 years, NOTHING eclipses These Three Gents. R.I.P. Professor., ~Mrs. came to my desk, Jan. 10th, 2020, thinking I was in my head (I do that) about my older adopted sister, whose birthday is 1/09.. I couldn't speak. I simply clicked a link and Her eyes got big and she just hugged me. I appreciate and respect all the incredible drummers before, while and after Neil. Neil will always be the Professor for a reason. ~R.

Awesome! Saw Rush in concert many times. He's my favorite drummer and they're my favorite band.

There are exceptions to every rule. Neil was an exceptional person, musician, and mentor to millions. They say never meet your heroes. Neil was the exception to that as well.

TY for this :) I miss his drumming and many other things he gave to us. I miss hearing his voice and seeing his smile more than everything else. His voice and his smile was in his music.

Life isn't fair...the death of Neil Peart is proof of that. Three years later, his loss is still so keenly felt by so many of us who had never met him. RIP Professor. Thank you for touching our lives and everything that you have given to the world.
