There is nothing like a mysterious metal lump! What will it be? Will it be interesting? Will it be nothing at all? This week we find lots of mysterious lumps and they reveal some amazing history! Come with us for the reveal as we visit Gem (or is it metal) Beach!
If you would like to watch us use some of the items we found in miniature crafting, pop over to our second channel `The Miniature World Of Kit + Caboodlers` -

‘One and All’ is the Cornish motto and also of the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry. The DCLI had their own dinner services so maybe the pottery is from that. Wonderful channel, always, for us - ‘One and All!’.

Lever Brothers was originally a British firm. The badges were part of a marketing effort, and were given to children in schools. Around the turn of the century, American cities were full of poor immigrants living in crowded housing with one washing room/toilet per floor (multiple apartments/flats/rooms). Public health advocates had inspired cities to open public showers and swimming pools to allow (and encourage) immigrants both from overseas and from farms to wash themselves regularly, which many had never done. Here near Boston in Cambridge, Lever Brothers produced soap at a 1000 employee factory. And Lifebuoy was regularly advertised on television into my adulthood, and is probably still for sale.

And Lifebuoy is a brand of soap that is still sold in stores today. 🙂 In addition to helping with a social ill, they were also helping create new customers.

Thank you so much. Very interesting! But so sad to me. I always am greatly upset by the way poor people were treated and unfortunately some still are ( I try hard to do my part to help) but very happy that someone tried to help and fix a problem that probably caused alot of sickness and disease. It also makes me very thankful to GOD and humbled that he has always allowed me access to clean water and nice showers.

Really?? You think it looks like Falcor?? I just don't see it, but that doesn't mean you're wrong. Falcor has squared off ears, this one has pointed ones. Falcor has such a sweet face with his big eyes and long muzzle. But if you think you're right, I won't argue.

Kate is an encyclopedia of book references, gem stones, culture etc etc. Glad she is wearing knee pads 😂 I get excited by nice stones too, hence my pockets are all full of sand and grit 🤦‍♂️ More great finds and that beach is STILL providing the goods! That werewolf definitely needs toning to look like old stone as a mini gargoyle/statue! Lever Brothers were based at Port Sunlight and their factory was a stone's throw from my house (now unilever factory and research). I plan to model their old steam locomotives ironically 😂

Hi, I dropped by just to say that the item you found is indeed a Japanese netsuke of an ox or water buffalo. Netsuke is made of different material, but I believe yours to be of ivory. It is a VERY NICE find and a netsuke is now on my bucket list! If you google “netsuke ox” you will see many other examples similar to your recumbent ox with legs tucked under. All the best! Cheers!

The dome shaped coral would make the perfect 'specimen' for the dollhouse study, wouldn't it? The other corals, I don't know...wonder if they are fossil remains or animals, but then that's what coral is, isn't it? Next thought is was there an American/English base near that spot from one of the WWs? That could explain the mix of artifacts you're finding. You two have sure been having some great hunts! Thank you both for taking us along!

Could your mysterious creature be a gargoyle? Also, the finding that Fleur wondered about is likely a clasp from a Victorian watch chain. Finally, I think you’ve got a dress or hair clip, as shoe clips (and buckles) are curved.

Kate, when you went to pick up that mottled blue glass bead, I could've sworn it was next to an alley gob, jack, knucklebone; whatever you call it. It looked to be a bit damaged, but I thought for sure that's what it was. The blue lace agate is lovely, Fleur. The coral looks like it could be a moulded jelly dessert for the doll's house.
