Jay, the conga player (percussionist) on this track is Eddied Guzman. Drummer Pete Rivera is their lead singer. In 1985 I had the honor of playing in a band that warmed them up in a club in Palatine Il.. The stage power went out in the middle of this song but the drummer kept playing. While the stage hands were all scrambling to find the problem, everyone in the crowd started singing the chorus, 'I just want to Celebrate" along with the drummer till the issue was fixed. Was a GREAT time!

If you do 'Get Ready', you will probably do the single version. But do yourselves a big favor and at least take the time to listen to the album version, where they totally stretch out as a band. The song takes up a whole album side and when it's done (about 21 minutes), you still want more! They also do a fantastic cover of The Beatles 'Eleanor Rigby'.

Get Ready I'm Losing You Hey Big Brother Rare Earth was a great 70's band, classic rock, funk and R&B. This was their lead single from their 1971 album. Such a great song. Considered fairly "heavy" with the great guitar work and great drumming. Almost psychedelic. Yup, it was all about talent back then. Thanks for the trip back. Fantastic. Great reaction. The main lyrics said it all, “I just wanna celebrate, another day of livin!” , that is so relevant in these times, and still was so relevant in the late 70’s, 80’ , 90’s, 00’s, 10’s , because every decade had its share of craziness in this world, so much so now in 2022! Life shouldn’t be taken for granted, because so many in this world , young and old didn’t make it to see this day, so be blessed and spread more love and not hate, cut the drama, treat people with kindness , and enjoy life, and value other peoples life too….

I was lucky enough in the early seventies to see rare Earth at Madison Square Garden in New York City. They were the opening act for a famous group/band who were temperamental and very late. Dear Fam, I am thrilled y’all finally got to hear some Rate Earth. The drummer Peter Rivera is the lead singer. This is IMHO one of the best live bands of the late ‘60s-early ‘70s. The Motown classic “Get Ready” is probably their most popular song. They jam to it. Most versions are 17-23 minutes long on their live albums. Jay you will love this as everyone in the band gets a solo in it to amazing effect. Amber will love the trippy quality and the brass in it. This song was also recorded by the Temptations and also Gladys Knight and the Pips. An anthem of the era. I hope you check it out.

Jay is right. Music really became a business in the 70's and a lot of people attribute that to Frampton Comes Alive. When it became obvious that a lot of money could be made from record sales, lawyers and businessmen got involved and in the end, it became about image and hits, not abilities and building an audience.

I saw Rare Earth in Vegas for free. Outdoors at the freemont exspirence Summer of love 2009. The original drummer wasn't there. The drummer was a black man who was a singer an awesome drummer. The show was gifted by the casino's the last song they sung before their half time break was Papa Was A Rolling Stone where ever he layed his hat was his home. Well, a lady showed up late she was a CEO from the Casino that paid for the show. She didn't get to hear her favorite song so she requested they play it again. Out of all the concerts I've been to this was the first an only time a band played a song twice. I was blown away . It was perfect. It sounded like they just played the record over again but it was live . Not one note was out of place. I got to see the original drummer that played with a band that warmed up for Elvin Bishop. In Henderson NV. The one thing that a lot of people don't know is Rare Earth is the only white band excepted into Motown record label.

If my old memory banks are right. I think most of their songs came out in 1968 and 69. They were motowns number one band and last I heard they are still motowns top producers of all time

Yet another band I have seen live. I'm talking mid 1970's and not the old folk's rendition that toured 30 years later. The lead singer plays a stand-up snare. Their percussion section often goes 3-4 people strong depending on the tune. The band "Stories" (Brother Louise) opened for them. My favorite songs by Rare Earth: "Born to Wander" (by far my favorite tune by them and if you liked the flute in Jethro Tull's "Locomotive Breath", then this tune is right up your alley) and "Big Brother". "Tobacco Road" is really good as well.

Rare Earth, the one and only ( at least 70’s or before ) Motown white rock band. They did a lot of Motown covers as Berry Gordy kept all his band under tight control, great Jams. I would recommend live versions of “Get Ready” or “I Know I’m losing You”. The Album In Concert is one of my favorites, not just this band but any band, top ten for me. The two songs I recommended are long but worth the extra time. Such a cool band, glad you finally got around to them, hope you explore more!

Yesterday the standard was talent. Pure and simple. Today it's about style over substance. Packaging a look. And the technical applications of the computer that give the music a sterile perfection and auto-mechanics that Rob it of emotion and bite. There is very little if any authenticity left in music today. The human element has been sacrificed for cosmetic efficiency and the bottom line. Nothing new is created. Which makes old music all the more valuable. Enjoy.

One of the white recording artists on the Motown label. Another example of Motown's greatness and desire to deliver great music regardless of race or ethnicity. Thank you Mr Berry Gordy Jr.

Your right Jay, the 70s was a very different time and not just for music. I know you guys have been reacting to movies recently so I would HIGHLY recommend "Dazed & Confused". It's a wonderful portrait of teen life in the 70s. You guys will not regret it. It was the debut for many actors you will recognize.

Back in 1992. I was working an outdoor job with a partner that I wasn't getting along with and was a lot of tension. It was a chilly gloomy day in February and the sun hadn't been out all day. As soon as this song came on the radio the sun came out for the duration of the song and didn't come back out again the rest of the day. True story.

I just love how you guys have expanded your musical horizon with so much wonderful music. It's great seeing the new generations enjoying what we boomers brought into this world, authentic ageless music, pure voices, so many talented musicians and singers. Each one with their particular voice and style. Each one different from the other. It's so satisfying seeing you guys discovering this new world of music and being blown away by it. Love you guys. You're awesome.
