In their beginning the Doobie Brothers had Tom Johnston (singer in this video) on guitar and lead vocals starting in ’1970. Later in 1975 Johnston had health issues and the Doobies hired Michael McDonald as a keyboard player and lead vocalist, to give some relief to Johnston. Obviously Johnston was irreplaceable (just as Michael McDonald is) and the music style changed. Some hated it, some loved it (I loved BOTH styles). However they NEVER lost their tight 3-part harmony. Both Johnston & McDonald have since shared the same stage with their amazing talents. DOOBIES ROCK!!!!

When Michael joined in my opinion they got more pop and commercial. It was ok but I to preferred when Tom was there it was pure rock and blues. It had more get up and go the production was way better. The musicianship was good ol rock and roll. I just liked them better in there early days. Still love Doobies and always will. I remember Chinagrove in 7th grade. Even though that wasn’t a up beat rock song it’s still one of my favorites from them. Jesus is just all right is probably my favorites.

One of their early hits. Going back over what you've already reacted to, I'm shocked that you haven't done "China Grove". The guitar riff in that one is one of their best! "Take Me In Your Arms (Rock Me) is a total rockin' vibe. "Takin' It To the Streets" is great, and so is "Real Love". Their last big hit, in 1989, was "The Doctor", and it's a terrific bookend to the Doobie's amazing run. While I'm at it, I'd like to request "Right Place, Wrong Time" by Dr. John, a great musician you haven't reacted to yet.

Tom Johnson, the singer-songwriter of this song, performed this song for years as a throwaway song that he never had any fixed lyrics to before being convinced to record it. He said that the lyrics he finally settled on were inspired by the song City of New Orleans by Arlo Guthrie which is a beautiful song you definitely should do and react to

Never knew the connection to Arlo, just figured where he was from, trains were a way of life. Thanx
@tjhunger8644
@tjhunger8644 2 жыл бұрын
@@garyarnett1220 Regarding the lyrics, Johnston said: "None of that stuff really had any basis in anything. It was just out the top of my head, which, quite frankly, is where all lyrics come from. Songwriting's a weird thing, and everybody does it differently. For me, I always write the music first, the words come later. But I've had songs that just seem to write themselves, and those are blessings for me, because you don't have to sit there and strain your brain for hours trying to come up with the lyrics, it seems like they just flow out on the paper, and you don't even have to think. Other songs, like 'Long Train Runnin'' - not that the words are that difficult or anything - it's just finding the words that I thought fit the track. Took me a long time. I got into the whole train mode, and it's just stuff that comes into your head. It's not like I had a point of reference with anybody named Lucy, I had been around trains on and off throughout my life. Coming from the Central Valley in California, there's a lot of trains running up and down that valley. And I assume that's where some of that stuff probably came from. And Arlo Guthrie released a popular train song the previous year: "City of New Orleans." Both songs mention the Illinois Central train in the lyrics.

"Dark Eyed Cajun Woman" is their most beautiful love song. I know you both would be swept away by it. Same singer.

I enjoyed the reaction, I even enjoyed this version that I have never heard before. But as many others have stated, please go back and listen to the original. It truly is so much better. It would make us all smile. That is all.

This song is off the album The Captain and Me. This is the pre Michael Mcdonald era. The lead singer on this song is Tom Johnston. On th early albums him and Patrick Simmons shared lead vocals. They both are good singers and guitar players. One song people tend to forget is Rockin' Down the Highway. This song is the biker anthem. I know many motorcy le enthusiasts and the all live by yhis song. It rocks pretty good. The early Doobie catalog rocks a lot more than the later stuff. Check this song out.

The Doobie Brothers are an American rock band that have been around for 5 decades. They covered many genres of music over the years. They had so many great songs such as "Jesus Is Just Alright", "China Grove", "Takin' It To The Streets", "The Doctor", "It Keeps You Runnin'", "Echoes Of Love", "You Belong To Me", "Take Me In Your Arms" etc.

I highly suggest "Listen To The Music." It's one of those nostalgic kick back and relax hits. Great song btw.

I remember seeing them in concert in the parking lot behind Abuelo's in Bricktown, the stage was backdroped by the SanteFe tracks, and when they started playing this song a very long freight passed behind them

Love the Dobbies since 1970, but throughout the many years I never got the chance to see them is concert. Finally, in 2009, thanks to my close friend Anthony, I saw them open for Bad Company, at Jones Beach, Long Island, NY. Both bands were awesome!!!

Although they are considered a founding member of the classic rock era, The Doobie Brothers on stage has a classic R&B instrumentation and 2 drummers.

This is one of my many favorite Doobie Bro songs. The slightly dark undertones of attempted suicide and the opportunity to rethink that decision. This song is a celebration of life and a message to those who a suffering to just hold on because love is always there even if you don’t feel or see it at the moment. Big hugs and love to all of the wonderful robsquad family!

You should listen to the original soon for comparison, this is a remix. The Doobies have so many great songs. If you want to rock out pick “China Grove” or “Without You”…if you want more of a smooth groove try “Another Park, Another Sunday”.
