If you take an old rubbish bin and cut the bottom off, you can stand it up in your tip bags, fill it, lift the back up, pull the bin out, and done. No more floppy tip bags to hold open while you fill them.

They should also be asked to give parenting classes to a lot of the younger generation. What amazing boys they are raising, useful, loving ,capable, respectful and pitch in with cooking, bathing the baby , feeding the horses and stable work. Whatever Nick and Jenny are doing is certainly working.

I believe he would find a way. I can relate to how hard it is to do a project alone. It's a blessing to have people like Nick and Billy etc. But Ryan is also determined and has a huge heart and willing to learn. He also has video skills that just keep getting better all the time.

Think he was a bit depressed and overwhelmed by the state of the house once he got some real help from Nick a great friend . I’m a bit upset that Billy did not offer any help but I think he’s got his own battles going on at home from not helping get the house finished and spending so much time at the convent from Gwen !

@@PatchworkUSA A bit of rough reply - we are just used to seeing Billy assist Ryan, but this one is on Ryan. The best part of Ryan's videos is seeing the ups and downs that happens with projects. Ryan is doing great. I am sure we will see Billy again, but until then we can watch him on his channel. Plus, you can bet Billy is supportive of Ryan - they are best friends.

With the amount of work ahead I agree that trying to save any old joints is a wasted effort. The price of the new joists is also a great reason, much cheaper than I expected.👍

I’d been really curious why the stairs and landing joists/floors were ok when all the others haven’t been but after watching the video it’s become pretty much a moot point now! Can’t wait for the new floors to go in, what a difference it’ll make!

I think Ryan felt like he was in over his head. I think Nick gave him confidence, but all Ryan needs to do is just do it. He doesn’t really have experience in building. I think maybe Nick can give him things to do when he leaves. I would suggest Ryan look at others on KZfaq that haven’t had a lick of experience in remodeling and they have googled stuff, and got her done. Ryan doesn’t know yet how capable he is.

Ryan have you thought of making the side room (single storey section) into a conservatory room by adding a glass conservatory style roof. It would give a feeling of having an outside space.

Bit of advice when fitting the new joists, make sure to wrap the end of each new joist in a waterproof membrane with staples attaching it.

What about using a metal C channel on both walls with joists notched between? This seemed to work well on another French Reno channel. His thought was that it keeps the wood out of the wet wall which may have caused your rot in the first place?

You can buy a metal U shape and attach it to the wall with large plugs and screws then hang the joist in very easy and ok for the size of Ryan's house
