What you said in this video is one of the reasons why I still hesitant to become a writer for full time alongside with the belief from the ones in my family that I cannot make a living out of it. The expectations from the sites that publish webnovels are just too much and if I did not publish a chapter daily, I will be fined. That's what one site told me at least. As for the listening to the fans part, I think this is the complicated matter here. On a number of occasions, the fans can really helped things out. And I did help many authors of the stories I like on many occasions too. Of course, I allowed them to be the ultimate authorities whether or not they will take my ideas. And sometimes, they do. And sometimes, they don't. But like I said before, they are the ultimate authorities because they are the ones who write the stories. So you're right. If the authors have their own stories to tell, the ones that they've been planning in advance for sometime, then just tell the stories without major modifications of the plot is the right option. However, listening to what the fans desired can be the good option as well as long as the possibility of adjusting the ideas they offered is in reach. And that is what I did and still do. I opened up to suggestions and ideas from the peoples who read my stories as forms of formalities while also giving hints there and there about what will to take place in the future time and time again, which also serving as a way to remind me of what direction I am heading as well. By doing so, I feel like I am writing a story alongside those who read my story. And did I receive ideas from the readers? Yes, I did but not often. But will I use them? That is up to what I received and how much possible it is for me to adjust what they offered to me into my story. And do you think that if the manga industry or the other industries related to entertainment and media have their own "Tanzimat Reforms" in order to improve the conditions of the peoples who worked with them or worked for them, do you think they will be happy if their new privileges and new rights came at the costs of losing their old privileges and gaining new obligations? Because that was what happened when the Sultan Abdulmejid I proclaimed the reorganization in all levels of the society, the administration, the economy and the military of the Ottoman Empire. I think if anyone chooses the path ("blood, sweat and tears") of art (because of passion/vocation), then it does not matter what fans think, it's the artist's choices that are the ultimate arbiter of choice of creation, and that is right and noble. If the fans like or loathe it, it is something to consider as secondary consequence after the former artistic process comes first in the sequence: "How did this art cause that reaction?" Of course, there's always going to be the temptation to find the "next formula for the next big hit!" Eg Shades of Da Vinci Grey Code, you heard it here first... what do fans want more of this time?! But if you're going to ask that question as per the Carry quote, why not instead ask: "What do the fans not know they want next time?" Go for it!

Look at masashi kishimoto. He listens to the fans and the pressure coming from shueisha and jump and he totally destroyed his ending. Hes not even with it and wanted to distance himself.

I want to make my own manga so badly that i dont want to ruin it by working at a shitty industry. I will create my own industry in America instead by creating a name for myself and work with other people who i can trust and work well with. Don't give up hope everyone you guys can still make you own manga just be patient and take your time studying more about manga and its industry to get a better idea on what you could possible do in order not to fail.

These videos are helpful. They allow you to carefully consider everything and not make rash mistakes. Thank you. After all videos like this, I realized for myself that I never want to get into the professional manga industry. I'd rather try developing a Patreon or something while also having a non-manga or comic book job.

Not listening to the fans... I feel like for specific ideas you have, not changing them for the fans is one thing, but ignoring fans is what has killed the western comic industry. Some things like fan favorite characters you didnt expect to be so popular getting more airtime, rethinking pacing if fans are getting bored. Some changes have been pretty devastating. I recall AoT was supposed to go much differently at the end, and I believe Death Note as well. But... Famously Toriyama's whole Cell Saga was the editor complaining about the villains which is how we got 17 and 18, and then all the forms of Cell. Perhaps the Goku-centric focussing when it seemed like he kept pushing for more Gohan was another one of the editor meddling, but I think it's all went well for the most part. I have quit numerous stories because the pacing got so bad, and it didn't seem like anything was happening. There's a fine line between compromising on your vision, and giving fans what they want.

Good editors should help authors question all the available options that might help the stories be better, which could include the voices from fans, so the authors could make the best well informed decisions without having to feel any regrets. Editors who force authors to accept theirs opinions are not good editors period.
