I'm glad you mentioned history. I've served on old ships and there's a character that you can feel when you're on them. So much has gone on on those ships. The food seemed pretty good considering it was obvious that the budget for things like maintenance have been cut, so the one for food probably was as well. That ship was once the newest and finest.
@stevewhitcher6719
@stevewhitcher6719 2 жыл бұрын
I wonder if they cut the maintenace because they knew she was going to be scrapped? Most ships get reused in less rich countries so it would seem that if she was going to be reused a bit of white paint here and there would have been sensable.
@mikkj1
@mikkj1 2 жыл бұрын
@@stevewhitcher6719 That could be it, but, many who buy ships like this for re-use don't worry about some more-or-less cosmetic rust, since they're going to makeover the ship and re-paint it to suit them. And, the worse it looks, the cheaper they can get it. I'm an old Navy man, and rust on a ship just gets me. ;)
@leothompson2777

It's not old though.... Early 90's at most. It's just so outdated, as the styling wasn't even contemporary for the time either. At no point in its life was that the newest or finest ship on the seas. That interior has never seen a lick of maintenance either, it was never cut.

It's a time capsule to a different era. Very rare to see this sort of thing, at least here in Europe (dunno how it in Japan or elsewhere so don't quote me on anything) - a lot of ferries of the Miyazaki Express' vintage and even older are a lot better kept here. Bretagne (1989), Stena Gothica (1982), Isle of Inishmore (1997), Wawel (1979), etc. are some that spring to mind.

I'm really surprised they haven't drastically lowered their prices. They've got to run all those facilities even if no one's there. Some amount of income has got to be better than none (but, they probably make their money on the freight traffic, not the passengers). And, I guess the lack of profit shows in the lack of paint.

I don't think profit is a problem. Given its age the ship might be very close to retirement, so it doesn't make much sense to invest into something they are getting rid of soon.

This one is not creepy. just retro. Takes me back to my youth (except for the vending machines. Those never caught on here). It even got a telefon booth. I love it

The only food aboard the ship that looked tasty was the beef stew, I think it was the lighting that made all the other stuff unappetising. But the chicken at the airport looked absolutely delicious, so much that my tummy started making noises..😸

Just like I was there. From the video the ship looked in good shape for being 4 months away from being replaced. Looks like you had the ship to yourself. I would have been in trouble inside of an hour. "Hey, let's check out the engine room". Great job. Thanks for sharing your trip with us.

Wow, that is a little creepy! Really gives you that “horror RPG set in an abandoned hospital” theme! The music also adds to it, especially at 4:03 At least the rest of the trip looked fairly enjoyable! Pretty much everything from 5:06 to 5:30 is wholesomeness at its finest! On a side note, it really must be great for the staff on the ferry’s to see people enjoying their meals!

Lovely as always. Have you ever thought about interviewing some of the people you meet? Maybe I just have an overactive imagination but I wanted to know everything about that lady in the ticket office. Jobs like that seem so boring and suffocating. I know, I've worked plenty of them myself. I just want to know how long she has worked there, why she chose to work there. What does she do for fun? What gives her life meaning? There is a lady in Japan I want to know everything about and she has no idea someone in Texas has seen her. The world really is a small place.

Your videos are wonderful, the viewer really gets a sense of coming along with you on your trips. There is always a feeling of calm regardless of your mode of travel. There is a peaceful tranquility that surrounds you even when there are others present. To be able to travel as you do in Japan looks very relaxing. Although once this pandemic is well behind us, I can imagine more people doing the same. It is so nice to see a country where people are so respectful of each other. If we never get to travel to Japan at least we can travel there via your great videos. Thanks...

Since I'm about 195 cm tall, my best option might be third class, but I wonder if my feet would stick out into the aisle. I love the green tea dispenser. That seems old school. I remember when there was a big enclosed food court/eating area at Meiji Jingu with a giant green tea dispenser in the middle. It's all gone now, replaced by little chichi eating places. With Covid, I haven't been to a Japanese restaurant for a long time. Now I miss chirashi sushi. If you have a suitcase, where do you put it if you're in second or third class. Or is it no suitcase. Of course if you have a car or a truck, you can leave things there.

Hello! Great video. It was a nice trip to the past. Loved Kobe's Port view at night. The sunset was also great. The ferry is definitely vintage. The furniture in the common areas seems typical of the eighties, not the nineties. Your cabin was a poem. It was nice of you to thank the bed cover for all it's history. My goodness, you love to eat! The best meal seemed to be the one you had in Miyazaki. The airport is really beautiful. Thank you so much for the trip. A "Back to the Future" experience. Thanks! 😃

After watching several of these, makes me wonder if the crew practically live on board like free rooms for however long till they get a day off. If so, it certainly sounds like a tempting position.

I was curious about that too. I looked it up, and it turns out that Miyazaki Prefecture adopted Exeggutor as a tourism mascot, due to the pokemon's resemblance to the phoenix palm trees that grow there.
