I think that the chapter title: 'The Piper at the Gates of Dawn', is the most evocative title ever. The book brings back happy memories of when I first read this some fifty years ago.

That is the mark of the best children's book, that you can read it as an adult and get even more from it than you did as a child.

Im from ireland, my grandmother is from Kent, she read me the books when i was a child, great old hard backs, im not sure how many volumes, but a cup of hot coco and a story before bed.

Was working at a used bookstore and happened to rescue a copy from the recycle can! Never read it before but it quickly became one of my favorites. Even heard a sermon in seminary where the president of our university read a passage from the Piper at the Gates of Dawn, relating it to when Moses met with the LORD on Mt. Sinai. Fantastic.

My sister (an actress and a clown in life) and I loved Wind in the Willows. We found that A.A. Milne had written a play in homage, Toad of Toad Hall, which is funny and full of shenanigans. Thank you for the glimpse back through time!

Oh it was written for young and old alike, I read it often and there is much wisdom therein which only occurs to you in later years. We have a real treasure trove of children's literature going back over the years, indeed centuries, and my bookshelves are constantly being added to with charity and shop finds. I particularly like the chapter in Wind in the Willows where Mole and Ratty find Badgers home in the woods, i think i am like Mr Badger....Also Ernest Shepherd's drawings are marvellous in this and of course Winnie the Pooh. ☺️

I'm going to have a grandson in 6 months and I finished my personal study with my personal favorites and some of our most precious books that's been given to us by gifted writers , I'm so excited to hopefully see the excitement in his eyes when he discovers all the characters in middle earth

This was one of the first books I ever read. I still have the same book my mother gave me with illustrations by Nancy Barnhart. I had a children's dictionary, thankfully. I remember looking at the illustrations over and over and daydreaming about the four animals plus Otter. Thank you.

Listening to you read a few pages of this book was so sweet. I read this book to my boys when they were little and it’s a wonderful memory of ours. Heck, I think we will read it together again. Sweet Spring!

I hadn’t read this since childhood and am currently rereading it prior to sharing it with a young friend. I’m just over halfway and the rich vocabulary surprised me. I remembered only a few scenes. Superb work.

“You can never get a cup of tea large enough for me to enjoy all the Spell in the Library videos.” 😉 I only discovered WitW a few years ago, but it instantly became a favorite. Probably the best part is the Piper at the Gates of Dawn chapter. I know it’s a pagan character and Grahame likely wasn’t a believer, but I get a real sense of the divine when I read it, like Pan is only a stand-in for Christ. Imagine my surprise when I discovered the book’s original title, changed shortly before publication to avoid similarity to a Yeats collection, was _The Wind in the Reeds._

This channel made me a pipe smoking day drinker. Glad for it.

Out of my busy days, these 10 minute videos with you slow me down and help me enjoy a bit of the day, even while I’m working out. While I may bot get to enjoy a pipe and pint with you all the time, I live a bit vicariously through you.

Like many others, I recently found your channel thanks to the algorithm. After watching many of your videos I now find myself with several new tobacco pipes and a box set of the hobbit and lord of the rings. For me, that description of the river as a story to be told to the sea is one of the most lovely and tantalising thoughts. How dearly I should like to hear from the tale of the river in full, or the sweet song of Goldberry in the house of Tom Bombadil.

I loved this book when I was younger! It sure is a good read for the young and old!
