2:00 didn't think i'd learn roughly how carbs work when i clicked on this video, but here we are!
@pacificmike95014 жыл бұрын
Just remember, these are very basic carburetors, perfect to learn from. There is no accellerator pump, and the fuel enters into the combustion chamber because of suction from the engine itself. How you control that suction is how you start your engine. Don't forget to retard the timing, just to start.

Thanks for uploading this! My dad had a 1938 knucklehead back in the late '80's. It was turned into a chopper back in the late '60's. I remember being about 10 years old and sitting on it thinking that it was the coolest thing ever. It really brings back memories and nostalgia for me. I wished it was still here. I dream to one day build a knucklehead chopper of my own but knucklehead's are priced to where a working guy can't afford them these days. I have no idea how anybody can hate on this video. The bike is perfect and I wouldn't change a thing about it.

Your yellow Harley was the stuff of dreams for a small town kid who knew he could never have such a great Harley because: 1) had not the expertise to build such a project, nor did anyone within 100 miles 2) had not the funds and no prospects of having same anytime within the next 20 years 3) had not the ability to kick-start (or ride) such a big motorcycle with any confidence 4) did not want people to think he imagined himself to be Peter Fonda or an outlaw biker 5) did not want outlaw bikers to think he was an outlaw biker BUT I STILL LOVE THE GLORIOUS CHOPS! Oh my gosh!!!! A 1947!! I had an El 1947 I bought in 1977! I loved that bike! A job loss caused me to have to sell her in 2017. Damn near broke my heart, certainly damaged my soul! And I damn well can't afford another like her. The blood, the sweat, the tears I poured into her. Got her back to 85% factory stock, all before the internet made hunting for parts, easier. Of course, the starting sequence was a thing of magic! Just let me sit back and soak in that sweet, sweet sound. Thanks for posting this, my Brother.

Absolutely beautiful knuckle! I ride a Dyna street bob and wish it sounded like that, also, your voice sounds like tommy Chong, so relaxed man, I’m subscribing, I’m excited to see what the rest of the videos look like! Cheers from Canada

I know its an older video but I have recently purchased my first Harley Davidson, its a 1981 Shovelhead Lowrider FXS that was in need of some love. Your videos have helped me through some stressful times when it comes to rebuilding the bike. I thank you for your videos. your soft spoken kind nature in how you present your work is great. I hope some day to have the knowledge you have and the time to pass it on as well like you do. Thank you sir.

I think I'm going to get a mic like that for my videos so you can hear my exhaust better. GoPro internal mic isn't cutting it for me. Viewers say it sounds sufficient. Bike is awesome Mike ! Reminds of the bikes Keanu Reeves rides bit smaller but he loves the oldschool custom builts

Sweet bike Mike. How do you keep the heads so clean? What about winterizing so they stay clean and shiny? My buddy said to put wb-40 on the head to prevent that nasty corrosion. I live in Chicago so it gets cold and salt gets thrown on the roads in the winter
@pacificmike95012 жыл бұрын
I try to keep it clean. Proper oil flow in and out of those heads is a big deal. The drain tubes have to be clear and you don't want too much oil up there. As long as the rockers and shafts are wet, they're happy. I ride Summer and Winter here and don't have those conditions to deal with. Your locals probably know a lot more about how to deal with that stuff than I do.

LOVE IT! I had a yellow Shovelchop--- a mag-fired 93" 82 Shovel in a 51 HD wishbone. Farthest I ever rode in one day was on that bike, 950 miles from Brooklyn NY to my great aunt's in north GA. Yellow chops are my favorite, since I was a kid and saw Lewie Roseberry's yellow knuckle in EZriders in 1977.

Cool. I remember it well. I think Pangwich Utah to San Luis Obispo Ca. in one day was the longest in one day I ever did, something like 750-800 miles. I couldn't believe how tired.

I have to admit that since first seeing this video, I have come back and watched and listened to this bike several more times - this is probably the most perfect bike I have ever witnessed and I just love that bike so much. That knuckle is so gorgeous - the yellow is fantastic. I would love to see you bring that sweetheart out to Cook's Corner on a Sunny afternoon...you would be the envy of many!!!! Good day to you sir. I found your video on coincedence. When you started to tell your "story", I recalled a very important person I know. to understand my story, I am a native German citizen, born and raised accross the pond. Back in the late 90s, I met my friends from Eureka, CA. In 2001, I moved there for a few years. Listening to you reminded me of my good friend Mark which I haven´t seen for more than a decade. Thank you very much for your video and taking me back to the "good ol' days". Let's all try to be safe and stay healthy in these days. I guess this is most important than anything else.

Hi Mike, quick question for you I know your a busy guy. My 47 nucklehead frame had been made into a chopper what's is the stock angle for the neck? Is it something that can be done at home ? Love your channel! Sincerely, Mike
@pacificmike95013 жыл бұрын
You really need to see the pictures to know the different necks, angles and designs of Knuckle frames. Look at "How to Restore Your Harley Davidson" by Bruce Palmer. You're going to need that book anyway. Buy it. Use it, and have a qualified frame shop restore the neck in tha frame. It should be properly jigged to make that repair. Thank You for the compliments. I hope you can get that book. It will really help you.
