The irony here, is that because of this verdict, SG-1 ends up actually assisting a REAL mass murderer. As opposed to the simple "wrong place, wrong time" situation that happens here.

Then you would be no better than them! That would be like when the alternate reality version of Jack O'Neill, while holding the rank of General in his capacity of commander of Stargate Command ordered a nuclear weapon be sent to Chulak. I doubt all the people on the planet are like the 'Taldor'. I could understand using such a policy against the Ashen although it might backfire or have the opposite effect!

What a brilliantly shot scene; the fact that we never see the (faces?) of the "Taldor" serves to make their brand of justice feel all the more dystopian.

To be fair if aliens would have crashlanded on Earth into some prison and this would allow murderers to escape by law they should be sent to prison. Laws are like that. They don't account for aliens.

@@stevenbazinet3404 well at this point Earth would have had no chance against these people considering that peasants probably live with very limited technology similar to the european feudal ages, however the aristocrats are more advanced then Earth because even after the very limited information we were shows we already know that they perfectly understand how the Stargate works and have teleportation technology to teleport people and objects. Their weapons were probably even more advanced than Earth weapons .

Even just for operational security sake this planet is a prime target for having their gate removed or destroyed. Absolutely should not have been allowed to keep their gate. You have to imagine that at some point off-screen this particular planet was in fact dealt with via force, or had their stargate at least later beamed off the planet to ensure isolation.

Taldor is unironically one of the few groups in the series where the SGC would have been justified and IMO even should have either sent a device through the gate to destroy its stargate/leadership structure, or just straight up gone in boots to ground once they later had ships and better tech. The series just kind of forgets about them even though they're pretty objectively malicious despots who use their power to torture anything they deem criminal. This is one of those rare instances where retaliation would have been extremely justified even once SG-1 got back to earth, because the race proved belligerent and hostile.
