An outstanding coverage on Salil choudhary. When Bimal Roy went to S.D.Burman for music of Madhumati , he felt Salil can do better job for that film. A salute to Sachin da for his sincere opinion and judgment ! If ,we see these two giants gave music so different for every song . Minoo Purshotam once said Rafi sahib gave a compliment to Salil da that his songs are challenge to sing .In Hindi "Unki dhunee sedhi sadha nahi hoti ". A real musical genius ! Raj

1960में जब मेरी उम्र 12वर्ष थी, सरदार शहर के एक स्कूल बापा सेवा सदन, मैं पढ़ता था,तब मैं संगीत का विद्यार्थी था, हमारे संगीत गुरुजी श्री मंगल चन्द जी भोजक सहित 11सदस्य बम्बई गये थे। मुझे याद है,पेडर रोड पर हिमगिरि पर्वर्तक नाम की बिल्डिंग में दूसरी मंजिल में हम ठहरे थे,हमारा सुबह शाम संगीत का रियाज चलता था,हमारा भाग्य कहिए कि हमारे सामने बरांडा के पार एक रूम में एक सज्जन रहते थे, वेशभूषा बंगाली थी।उस कमरे में संगीत के साज बाज रखे थे। मैं चुपके से देख आया था।शाम को गुरु जी मुझे साथ ले गए, और प्रणाम का इशारा किया, मैंने प्रणाम किया, और उन सज्जन से आशीर्वाद लिया। कुछ देर उपरांत हम हमारे रूम में वापस आए तो गुरु जी से उन सज्जन के बारे में पूछा तो, बताया ये फिल्मों के संगीतकार सलिल चौधरी साहब हैं।उस वक्त मेरी उम्र और समझ इतनी नहीं थी,पर आज मैं अपने आपको भाग्यशाली मानता हूं,जहे नसीब।

kishorekumar was very busy at 70 s and 80s. So salilbabu thought kishorekumar could not give him the desired practises. So he igonored kishorekumar in those days. Very little songs of this pair. Kishorekumar had a pain regarding this . And this famous song of annadata required 18 takes to satisfy salilbabu. Really a very dificult song to sing.

He was a real genius, an accomplished musician n outstanding composer. He used all types of music, from folk music, Indian classical music to symphony n made a grand bouquet of sweet n most difficult compositions. Thanks for making a nice VDO on such a gem of the Hindi film music.

We're really grateful knowing about Salil Da from you. What a beautiful man with a beautiful mind he was! We have been reared up hearing his unparalleled songs since our boyhood in Bangladesh. He is exceptionally unforgettable. And, by the way, your mother Sabita Chowdhury, was akso another genius. The entire domain of Bengali music in the India sub-continent is more or less indebted to great Salil Chowdhury.

Salil Chaudhary was the only music composer in the Hindi film industry who not only composed songs for films but gave background music for films where he was not the music director. He was also the only music director with a deep knowledge of harmony and orchestration and could read western staff notation. His use of melodic scales and chords was unique. The melody, rhythm, harmony and bass always sat down perfectly in his compositions. He also had a deep knowledge of Indian folk and blended it perfectly into his own unique style.

Salil Chowdhury’s genius is unimaginable - thank you so much for an excellent program. Just one minor correction: In this video you have used songs from Khushboo and Prem Parvat, which were not composed by Salilda. O Manjhi re is RD’s composition and Yeh dil aur unki is Jaidev’s.
