Just a Few Acres Farm

2 жыл бұрын

We have another new baby on the farm! Prudence had her calf and it's a healthy heifer. After visiting with the calf, I get to work on making modifications to Red the sow's pen to keep her piglets from being crushed. Later, Hilarie and I visit with the laying hens and talk about how egg production varies with the different seasons..
Note:
-We do not offer farm tours or accept visitors
-We do not sell from the farm
-We do not ship our farm's products
-We do not sell live animals

My son who is 1 and a half is in love with your feed. Lol it seems crazy to me that such a young child would just sit and watch a vlog instead of a cartoon. He’s gonna be a farmer one day I swear. We love watching your videos

Dear Pete, We learned something from this video that gave us peace of mnd for the survival of our outdoor cats during the sudden cold snap at Christmas. We are in the PNW and winters are usually mild. We rigged up a warm box for them by hangiing a heat lamp similar to what you did for the piglets. It worked so well and the cat with her half grown kittens just stayed toasty warm when nights got down to zero. The cats keep our place free of rats and mice and are worth their weight in gold. Thank you for showing us a simple farm idea!! 🌲🐱🌲

Pete I have watched every single one of your episodes and during this time I have gotten to know you a little. It’s easy to see that both You and Hillary have that amazing sense of duty to all of your animals. It’s there for all to see that I’m 100% correct. Please don’t beat yourself up about losing those piglets, it’s so not your fault. If you could go in time you would obviously change the final outcome. It was a tragedy yes but what’s more of a tragedy is the pain I can see in your face when you talk about it. Please be happy again soon my friend 💙👍🏼

Congratulations to you both on getting 200,000! It's not hard, at all, to know why. The way you farm is perfect, to my mind. You and Hillary are perfectly suited to the farm life and to putting out videos that explain it all to us. It's not just the farm part you explain, but also the living part. Had I been smart I would have bought some land and tried to live that way, but alas... I'm 78 now and I have a whole lot more days behind me than in front of me. Your videos serve to pull up memories of some very happy and contented times in my life. I urge you both to keep doin' what you do. I, for one, thoroughly enjoy everything about them.

Hey, like that 45° heated corner for your new piglets. As they grow taller, just raise the 'wall'...maybe next version will have vertical rails...as slide guides. Drill some holes in rails, match to holes in wall board, install few wood dowels (steel nails may cause injury if get knocked out) & bingo you have an adjustable height piggy corner. Hope this suggestion works for you. Much enjoy your channel...and (can you believe) watching all this animal farm stuff...makes me hungry!😊☺😋👍🍷

Food for thought Pete. Especially for when the temps really drop. Staple some Reflectix (bubble foil) insulation to the perimeter of the piglet pen to retain more heat, get more bang for your buck as you reduce the number of heat lamps, and eventually, let the pigs' own body heat become more trapped within the area to help them keep warm. Draping some over the top will hold it in even more too. Congrats on the latest calf arriving. She's a purdy little thang.

Your subscriber growth is in direct response to your content. There are only a few farm youtubers that I admire. You are one of them. I grew up on a dairy farm with a father that really cared for his animals..... much as you do...and it tells. I am pleased to see someone keeping their animals in a healthy environment. To many youtubers seem to be more interested in the hype and not the actual work. Ii hope to be able to watch many more episodes and would love to check out your operation although I never will being that I am bedbound. To top it all off you are located very near where I spent my early childhood so the scenery is so familiar. May your winter be well for all on your farm.

As an Alabama graduate and former player I am offended by your reference to our poor performance on Saturday! I was actually offended by our performance. I actually don't think I have ever been offended by anything in my life. We all have to grow as farmers and change how we do things as circumstances always change. Losing a pig or two is pretty common but losing half your litter is tough, emotionally and financially.

I am a newcomer and I wish I would have found you sooner! You are a true farmer the way some of us remember it and many of us hoped to be! You have all types of animals and you are hands on.in your easy way that makes animals important, personal and loved even if they go eventually where they are meant to go, It is how you make your living. I wish I could put it better , but your stalls look like we picture stalls: wood and lots of hay and buckets of water and again...hands on. Yours is the kind of farm we love to visit and maybe even help out feed the animals , gather eggs and overall help out. All have names...and by golly it looks like they know their names The saw and the cow mama showed no hostility when you approached their babies. That speaks for itself! They know you just the way we see you; warm, friendly and no nonsense when need be, but never rough . They trust you. I am not surprised you have over 200k subscribers because it is a joy to visit with you and your family. It truly warms the heart. Thank you!
