A New Era - DBR 1254 at the Glenbrook Vintage Railway

A new era at the Glenbrook Vintage Railway sees the purchase of three retired ex-KiwiRail locomotives, DBR 1254, DBR 1295 and DC 4818. 1254 has undergone an extensive overhaul and was unveiled to invited guests of Railway Enthusiast Society members and donators at a ceremony at GVR's Pukeoware depot on Sunday 29 September 2019.
DBR 1254 will be used for main line charters and excursions, while DC 4818 is the next enter the main workshop to undergo overhaul. 1295 has been repainted and serviced for operational use on the GVR line only for the mean time.
Full credit goes out to GVR GM Tim Kerwin for the oversight to proceed with the purchases and rebuilds, and his team of volunteers and employees. For the many tours and events coming up behind this loco and the range of steam locomotives, see www.gvr.co.nz .

When I was at Whangarei boys high school ( many years ago!!!) I remember watching these 2 'lose their feet' on the grade heading north out of town on a frosty morning. It took 2 more attempts before they got the train up the hill. Neat sound. This was 1983. They were noisy back then but that was real music. A big thank you and 'awesome restoration'.

I've ridden behind 1254 and 4818 in the past; I used to take the commuter train in Auckland before it was electrified, and 4818 headed my trains on occassion.

Great work Finn! The video tells a story and is much more than a series of lazy, static camera shots taken off a platform or by a level crossing with a tripod. This video shows thought and skill with well composed shots and not just a 3/4 frontal view.

Great to see preservation activities like this being accomplished in NZ. Much respect from Australia 🇦🇺🇳🇿 These locos sure have got a good growl to them. Are they EMD's or GE's?

She is an EMD. Look up the story of the NZR Db/Dbr class.

Captain Yank&Bank 1295 is operational and is used quite frequently on the GVR for things ranging from shunting duties to special events. However she is in need of a proper overhaul before she heads out on the main line
