I take a tour of the all-new Riverbend Records in Godfrey, IL near St. Louis. This is where I purchased my first, ever Japanese pressing. It's a Beatles album. Probably not a Beatles album you're thinking of...

Haha.. yeah the Obi holds it all together like that Lebowski rug, or the big round brand sticker folks, including my son back in the day, keep on the bill of their baseball cap. Don’t even get me started on Beanie Baby tags! Looks like a really nice record store. Modern set up/ old school vibe.

Here comes my hit single...with a bullet! Love the Beatles. Love Mama's and Papas. But I have no Japanese pressings. Gosh. Plenty of Canadian and US along with a fair smattering of euro pressings.

Just picked up my first Japanese pressing the other day! Found it at my job in the antique mall I mentioned where I got the alice copper records signed, a 1976 press of the Beatles HELP! Sounds amazing and quiet. Paid top dollar for it at 85 after my discount but I’m not complaining as it’s a much better sounding record then my beat up captiol pressing. If you’re ever in the area (for what ever reason!) defiantly stop in and be sure to say hello!

Yeah, I found that Collection of Oldies to have a really up front sound. Very bright. I heard a Dutch "Help!" and it sounded much better than the Capitol, too. I have the original Capitol and 1978 Capitol repress and they are about the same.

Hi Robert. Nice review of Billy’s store. It looks great. I just got my very first Japanese Pressing a couple of months ago also, Brian Eno’s A Green World. I have just never seen them in my record shopping trips. SAVE the OBI strip lol. Steve

My first major purchase after returning to vinyl was a NM Japanese 1st pressing of Abbey Road (no Obi)...not only an AMAZING sounding pressing, but a meticulously cared for copy. I JUST picked up a Japanese repress of "Risin'" a Kansas City (soul / disco / R&B) act from the 1970's called Smoke (Obi!). Pretty sure this is a needle drop and not from tapes...not sure the tapes exist anymore...sounds remarkably good and makes me want to find an OG.

I am shocked to hear this is your first Japanese press with three walls of music. Your absolutely right about the OBI, it’s good to have a friend that reads Japanese tho, cuz they might just any ole rando OBI from a Bill Cosby comedy record on there. I have gone down the Russian bootleg CD rabbit hole. It would sound UnAmerican if I said the Russian Bootlegs sound better than your average American RSD press( so I won’t)

@@RobertFithen Britpop? 👍 Only messing with ya. 😁 You should look into Nick Drakes 3 albums, 200 gram and made in Japan. I have Pink Moon and it might be my best pressing. I need the other 2.
