Nairobi is expensive, but it depends on the area where you live. Swahili is a national language, English is the official language. Swahili allows all Kenyans tribe to communicate with each other.

Nairobi just like any other major city is definitely expensive.. But living in the outskirts is cheaper, the further you go out of Nairobi, the cheaper it becomes. There are lots of "middle ground" restaurants where the average Kenyans eat out. Westlands might give a different impression, but try and get out more and discover new places. Lovely conversation.

Great interview and the first really calm Nigerian I have seen. She, however, needs to expose herself more to the real local Kenya. Leave the expat bubble and the touristy side and mingle with ordinary Kenyans, some of her perceptions would shift. However, I can't begrudge her experience so far and views which are very warm.

Kenya has a variety of foods too, did you know we have our own 'Amala' which is known as Unga wa mtama na mhogo(millet and cassava). We have the bitter leaves known as 'mtoe'

Wow! Westlands is more expensive than Lekki! I didn't know that. That is not a good thing. I agree that our neighbourhoods are class based and as a result they can be stale. I agree in Westlands it is hard to find a local restaurant vs a high end ones. I also agree we in Kenya can learn about hustle (the get s**t done kind of hustle) from Nigerians. My best city to visit in Africa is actually Lagos. Just the sheer energy, you have to have your instincts awake, every little corner is a lesson I see and just tell myself - we can do this in Nairobi.

That's why she knows a lot about kenyas' tourist areas but little about ordinary kenyans and ordinary places. Eg. Kenyans are well educated. Approx. 90% of Kenyans, even outside Nairobi, speak English but prefer speaking swahili. Recently, Don't lose out on the beautiful experience of interacting with ordinary Kenyans. This is such an amazing video. Well done to you and Amarachi. Just to provide more information as a Nigerian that loves Kenya and has lived in Nairobi and visited Naivasha, Nakuru, and Kirinyaga. 1. Kenya is very exciting. It's such a beautiful country with a large expat. community. So you'll def have fun as there are plenty of things to do and many exciting places to visit. Nairobi is literally called the capital of Africa. Try the national parks (the one in Nairobi is cool, but Hell's Gate is my favorite), Giraffe Centre, Elephant Orphanage, the malls, Mombasa, etc. There are a million things to do in Kenya. 2. Kenya has amazing weather as they rightly said. Cold weather in most parts of Kenya aside from Mombasa and a few other places. 3. There are midlevel restaurants in Kenya. You just have to go out more and mix with people. 4. While Westlands, Kileleshwa, Runda, Karen and other highbrow areas are expensive, they are still the best places to live in Nairobi as a foreigner. They are safer and you'll meet many like-minds there. 5. It's not all bliss though. So note the following especially if you're a Nigerian male: - Most Kenyans especially the middle age and older ones have a notion about Nigerians. So you'll get funny remarks about fraud, crime and all once they know you're Nigerian. My advice is to take it calmly, educate them them if you can and move on. So yea there is that profiling and stereotyping even amongst the educated ones and govt agencies like immigration, police etc. - Avoid CBD in Nairobi and other trenches-kinda places. Not safe. - Beware of the Police -- they are very corrupt and will try to extort you once they know you're Nigerian. And yes, extrajudicial killings are a thing in Kenya. - Don't discuss politics. Assassinations are not a rarity in Kenya - Be careful and observant. There is fraud, drug peddling, and various vices in Kenya too. - While Nigeria and Kenya have very good diplomatic relations and both maintain high commissions/embassies in Nairobi and Abuja respectively, the Nigerian high commission in Nairobi is not very responsive to the plights of Nigerians. So don't count on them. At least not every time 6. Lastly, learn Swahili/KiSwahili. It really helps. Also stay out of trouble and mind your business. Kenyans are generally welcoming, kind and hospitable people and you will meet people from all over the world in Kenya so it's a great place to build a solid network. Karibu Kenya!

About cost of living, Nigerians who relocate here tend to settle in Westlands. That area is ridiculously expensive. Outside or in the outskirts of Nairobi it is relatively affordable even cheaper than Nigeria.

Though i wish she could find time to interact more with the Narobians in the public market places and also frequently walk around in the streets and try to communicate in Kiswahili. Amazing Interview. I loved every aspect of it. One important question that was missing is "What do Kenyan's think about Nigerians?" Also "How have they treated you as a Nigerian?" I don't know if you ask the same question in your other interviews though. We play low key but because Nairobi is one of the most expensive cities in the world that even shocks the westerners when they come here but Kenyans always keep the economy afloat especially with corrupt government.... Just watching months after and am like this lady has lived in Kenya for two years and clearly doesn't know much.

One thing that you can get away with in Nigeria but not in Kenya is poaching or harming wildlife in anyway. Leave alone harming it, you must be licensed to have a wild animal as a pet. No matter how nice you Treat it, keeping it without a license can get you behind bars. So that is one thing that you can't get away with here in Kenya but you can freely do it without any consequences in Abeokuta.

Good interview, but the restaurant bit is not correct. There is actually more middle-level kind of restaurants than high-end ones in Nairobi. Get out and see the city more. Otherwise Karibu Kenya ma sista oh!

She's really beautiful. She has however not moved around the city. Most of her information clearly shows she lives indoors and in high end estate. Average rent for 2bdr might be around 400 dollars and you can get cheaper than that depending on location. Correction: Kenyans are the most aggressive in Africa only that they're not loudest
