This was like a blast from the past. Replace secondary with servants and you could be back in the early 20th century when this was the height of fashionable residences. Did anyone notice how each bathroom opened out to the secondary staircase? This would likely have allowed the servants to bring up hot water or attend the family and not disturb them by passing through the main entrance. Yes, it's well preserved. Interesting tour.

I think it would be level 4 for the servants. Much smaller bedrooms and a lot of stairs. Thanks for your comment on the bathroom doors. It makes sense. What a monster of a house!

It also concentrated all plumbing to a vertical column. (Excluding radiator pipes)

Unbelievable!! My childhood neighborhood. I passed through this homes and wondered why there were so different to the other big apartment buildings in the area. Always wondered how they look inside. Amazing! Thank you for this video. Wow!!!

Amazing all the preserved period detail (even some of the door locks and door knobs!). I love that 5 of the 6 bedrooms have fireplaces. As charming as the second floor bedroom suite is, I think I would remodel the second floor to be an enormous gathering space for entertaining and family living. I bet this place was something back in the gilded age. I'm surprised there's no dedicated library.

Love these old homes! Would love to see the original woodwork without the white paint though, I bet it would be stunning! Love the fireplaces in the rooms and the stained glass windows. What is not to love about this beautiful home. Thanks for sharing!

Can you give a guess as to who would rent it? And do you think that this was renovated as a rental? Or was it renovated by a family who lived there, then sold? I'm wondering about the dynamics in that area. (frankly, we've never ventured much farther north than The Ansonia or Mt. Sinai) The rent seems steep for the area, to me, until I stop to consider that you'd only need about 400k in yearly income, which is not so much in Manhattan.

WOW, move in ready! Only changes I would make (if it was for sale) is to bring back the original dining room on the 2nd floor (1st bedroom area) as it once was and update the all the closet "built-ins" from the cheap store bought shelves to something more substantial and paint/paper all the rooms. Bathrooms and kitchen, thankfully, still hold most of their charm and look. Also love the servants entry and hidden hallway along the side of the house to the cellar! I was wondering what was behind the wall of the powder room downstairs!

Gorgeous and the potential! I’d definitely get rid of the bedroom on the second level and just make that whole floor a living area. Bathroom there already. I’d finish the basement and make that a living area as well for the kids and their friends when over.

Wow. What a place. Normally I don't care for dated homes but I like this one. It's classic NY. There's so much to see. Hidden doors and passageways. I like they mixed new with the old. It's well preserved. Just need some finishing touches but nice place. The cellar I would need to update so it's more warm and not dark and scary. Other than that very nice.

The 2nd floor ia appropriate for a formal sitting room and a formal dining room. I would remove also the ensuite bathroom. I would transform it to a powder room and probably a cloackroom. I would make way directly to the terrace!!!

Very well distributed. This one doesn't have that horrible half-bathroom in the kitchen! The problem is if you come back home from a party after a heavy booze section and get into the wrong house - all of them look the same on 141st Street!😂

The downstairs half bath / powder room needs to be relocated where the closet under the stairs is....then that entire area where the bathroom was entirely opened up and added to the very long and awkwardly flowing narrow front parlor and the middle parlor...uniting those 2 parlors /gathering places...into one long flowing entertaining areas...with no visible lines of demarcation. Some original and narrow townhomes / brownstones are a challenge to create open, light and bright inviting rooms that people want to spend time in...the way it is now, it looks like the front fireplace area is just a large foyer...which may have been the intention. On the main floor, I would make all of the interior cross walls disappear...all the way to the back exterior wall of the structure....make every cross wall seperating the rooms disappear.

I agree, the distribution is a bit strange. But in those days, people had two living rooms in these houses. The official one in the entrance area and a private one for the family. The family room on the first floor is probably it. Unfortunately, unlike today's "wooden boxes", you couldn't just tear out a wall in these old houses to put rooms together. But what has become of the staff quarters? They used to be either in the basement or in the attic.

What a beauty. Love that all the previous owners kept the period details. I hope whoever lives here next uses traditional wall colors/wallpaper and traditional window treatments, light fixtures and furnishings in keeping with the age of the home instead of using jarringly modern furnishings, abstract paintings and stark white walls. I would hate to see a black leather Italian sofa anywhere in this home.

I love when they leave the original features. There should almost be a law that states you can't destroy the original interior because it's so historic. I hate when they gut the original interior and modernize it! It sucks! At least to me anyway.

Good to see all the heavy dark woodwork painted out in white. Some people restore this to the original dark finish, but it looks so wrong for modern sensibility. Please, enough with the double sinks in master bathrooms. You may as well put two toilets next to each other. Real luxury for a couple is separate bathrooms, especially when millions are spent.
