So Long and Thank You For All the Fish is a line from Douglas Adam's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It's what the dolphins say as they're leaving the planet before it gets destroyed. The opening verse is also very much in the style of Hitchhiker's Guide as well and human's priority. Which leads into the statement that the dolphins are the most intelligent species on the planet because all they do is swim around and play vs fretting over jobs, digital wrist watches, and bank accounts. Also, I'd recommend watching the video for the song. It's very Truman Show / 1950-60's TV feeling. Lots of smiles and everything going mad around them.

The Noose was inspired by a line Maynard heard someone say in an AA meeting - 'Don't let that halo slip down around your neck and choke you...' - The really juicy part to this story is the legend that Maynard was supporting Layne Staley as a friend by accompanying him there on that particular night. Which makes it so much more imoactful.

I just love the layers. It's both a serious track and a self reflective satirical track. It holds the mirror up to society and the ephemeral, superficial things we value that essentially have little to no meaning. The composition is so great but there's an intense straighfaced humour and wit going through it. It took me a few listens to catch the vibe of the track. It seems a bit more of a departure for them APC, it has a pop edge to it but don't be fooled it is nourishing pop music. It definitely has substance to it like you'd expect from Maynard Keenan and Billy Howerdell. The lyrics are so scathing, darkly humourous and brilliant.

Mer De Nom and 13th Step are masterpieces. Eat the Elephant is growing on me. Emotive is meh probably the most forgettable.

I'm still here. Love APC. Maynard always has purpose in his lyrics and there frequently is simultaneous cheekiness to it.

Its easy being original (like yoko ono yelling for example) but being original and good is something rare and a perfect circle is such a great and unique band. Their songs always have a very specific ambient with each one.

So glad it has been released, I love A Perfect Circle, in many ways I think it is Maynards best band. The first 2 albums really changed how I viewed the music I love to listen to, Maynard is so emotional, Billy often playing such wonderful simple tunes then the mix just pulling you in so you lose yourself completely. Mer De Noms is a fantastic journey of moods, then Thirteenth Step slugs you between the eyes so beautifully you don't notice until you are getting back up

"Man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much-the wheel, New York, wars and so on-whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man-for precisely the same reasons."

Hearing The Noose always brings me back to when 13th step came out. The Noose is about someone who gets into recovery after a long, terrible addiction and is like “look I’m all better now!” but forgets about all the horrible things they did to their loved ones while in active addiction. Maynard is saying, “that’s great but we need time to heal too, all those atrocious things you did to us were still you, not someone else. Not that we arnt proud of you, but keep that halo in check for a while.”

You're the man Geebz, I love your breakdowns. It makes me rediscover what I have loved about all these songs from APC for years. I think I know a song and you pull out all these nuances I didn't even realize. Maynard is a gem whether it's APC or Tool and takes the listener on a journey. Makes me rethink my life sometimes with his lyrics. "Time to put the silicone obsession down, take a look around" is what we all need sometimes, love the beauty of nature. I'm still here
