Bobby Fischer was a record-setting chess master who became the youngest player to win the U.S. Chess Championship at 14, and the first American-born player to win the World Chess Championship.
Bobby Fischer was born on March 9, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois. Fischer first learned the game of chess at age 6 and eventually became the youngest international grand master at the age of 15. In 1972, he became the first American-born world chess champion after defeating Boris Spassky. An eccentric genius, who was believed to have an I.Q. of 181, Fischer became known for his controversial public remarks in his later years. He was granted Icelandic citizenship in 2005, following legal trouble with the United States. He died on January 17, 2008.
Early Life
Robert James Fischer was born in Chicago, Illinois, on March 9, 1943. Fischer's parents divorced when he was a toddler, and he began learning chess at the age of 6 after his older sister Joan bought him a chess set. He continued to hone his skills as a youngster at the Brooklyn Chess Club and Manhattan Chess Club. Fischer had a strained relationship with his mother, who supported his chess endeavors, but preferred that he pursue other areas of interest.
A brilliant, highly competitive player who lost himself in the game, Fischer earned a place in the record books at age 14 when he became the youngest player to win the U.S. Chess Championship. Then in 1958, at 15, he became the youngest international grand master in history by winning the related tournament in Portoroz, Yugoslavia (now Slovenia).
Match of the Century
During the early 1960s, Fischer continued to be involved in U.S. and world championship matches, but was also making a name for himself with his erratic, paranoid commentary. After having a 20-game winning streak in the early 1970s, Fischer once again made chess history in 1972 with his defeat of the Soviet Union's Boris Spassky at the Reykjavik, Iceland world championships, thus marking the first time an American chess player had won the title. Fischer's defeat of a Soviet opponent, which became known as the "Match of the Century," took on iconic proportions in the midst of the Cold War and was seen as a symbolic victory of democracy over Communism. Fischer's historic win also made chess a popular game in the United States.

@@AM-sp6je No... I don't see the difference. You can say ever to, to ever, that ever stroll/strolled. The meaning is the same. The tense is different, but nobody cares about chess tense. You can argue either way that chess is great history and that we analyze these games to celebrate great games that were played, or you can argue that chess never dies and thus the tense would be present. Hey bud, thank you for the great content and perfect pronunciation of my home country, Chile :) Nobody gets it right! I've picked up Chess again after probably 20 years thanks to you and am enjoying myself immensely - have been playing online for a couple months now and recently picked up a board to recreate these great positions you share with us and analyse them in front of me and play with different lines. Seeing masterpieces unfold in front of me, using the same regular pieces "us mortals" use in our everyday games has really improved my game and makes me smile with games like this one and may others you've shared. Not sure how to explain it, but thanks man. Maybe we'll play one day! #agadmator

After Qh1, I think you can just push g5 and g4 and win the bishop, 'coz white literally has no moves
@skyhighvenus6311
@skyhighvenus6311 7 ай бұрын
Actually, after Qh1, Ng4 check wins immediately no matter where the king goes. King can only go to e1, f1, g1 or g2. 1) If kf1, then Nxf3 with a brutal discovery check coming. If say white tries a counterplay with Ne2, then best play goes Nfxh2 check, Ke1 Qf2 check, Kd1 Nf3 and the white knight will be lost because Ne3 is coming with a devasting attack still on going. 2) If Ke1, then best play goes Qe3 check. If bishop or Knight blocks, then Nc2 check, followed by Nf2 check winning the queen. 3) If Kg2, then mate in 3 with Qxf3 check, Kh3, Ng2 check, Kh4, Qg4 mate. 4) If Kg1, then Qe3 check, followed by Qxf3 check with same mating pattern as scenario 3. But you made your point. it would have been nice if Agadmator analyzed Qh1.

@ Jordan Nexhip, Tal's moves were unsound to who? What you neglect is that he was good enough to be World Champion in an era of very tough competition. By your standards no world champion is good enough as none of them can defeat today's chess engines - not even Magnus. Again, stop acting so smug and discreting Tal simply because you have access to a computer that tells you what to play next.

Toward the end of the video (in the hypothetical situation), why couldn't queen play h1 to defend the bishop? (Although, I assume black would just play Ng4 in that case. And the king would be forced to block the Queen's path. What would follow would probably be Qxf3 check. Kh3 and then Nf2 check forking the queen and king. I think that's best 🤔)

@johndibaise198
@johndibaise198 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Black plays Ng4+ again. Bishop can't take because of the pin, so king has to move. Only way to defend bishop is with Kg2, but that leads to checkmate in 2-3 depending on where King goes (One variation: Qxf3+, Kh3, Nf2+, Kh4, Qg4#). If the King goes to e1 or g1, Nxf3+ and black loses the Bishop with a tempo. If King goes to f1, Nxf3 and the bishop is still lost and the white queen is stuck on h1.
@uuh47
@uuh47 6 жыл бұрын
As what you said, if Qh1 then Ng4 and the king is forced to block queen's path, black will still get the bishop for free.
