A Quick Dance with Omega

Here’s a quick clip showcasing a florid bit of dodging around Omega’s attack pattern. I briefly worked on this while practicing for my Buster only 100 point run; there, I noted that the fight against Omega lends itself well to a variety of approaches that range in difficulty. His relatively languorous pace in Z3 allows players to devise ornate methods of evading his moves, this is one such example. Jumping over Messenkou, threading Zero between Arc Blade’s projectiles and making tight jumps around Omega’s X2 combo are just part of a list of precise maneuvers that give off an air of flashiness that you don’t normally get; even using combos to shred him doesn’t quite reach the same level of style.
This particular sequence is choreographed by using excruciatingly specific pattern manipulation, allowing me to devise a visually satisfying routine that would otherwise require immense fortune alongside brutally demanding precision. I did practice pure improv so I can say with confidence that performing this style of dodging against Omega is possible with raw reaction alone. Sure, it requires unparalleled concentration and reflexes along with a good chunk of luck, especially as it pertains to the falling rocks, but it can be done. I intend to expand upon this proof of concept in the future by completing the whole fight in a similarly showy fashion but I figured that even this shorter clip might be of interest to some, both from a pure entertainment perspective and also in providing some “behind the scenes” insight into my practice routines.
I hope you enjoyed this little waltz! If you have any questions or comments feel free to leave them.

It helps that Z3 Omega is a willing dance partner unlike the rampaging lunatic he becomes in ZX. I wouldn't suggest trying any of this there, it won't be pleasant.

After fighting ZX Omega for a long time, I must say that Z3 Omega throws me off my timings due to his long delays.

I experienced the exact same thing when practicing for the Buster Only run. Despite Z3 Omega being objectively easier, I was getting hit by everything for a while.

I blame mostly the long drawn out boss gauntlet. It’s after while your fingers start to feel tired & numb and tend to lose concentration in the fight.

@@leongyuhinleongCan't agree more. I think Zero 2 is the hardest in my opinion

@@RoweenAnopheles I'd say all of the Zero Series, if rng luck doesn't your way or you make one rookie mistake, kiss your 100 points run goodbye.

The falling rocks from Omega's charged slash can really put you in a tricky spot. I certainly share your sentiment, losing a no-damage run, especially to sporadic projectiles like that, is pretty annoying.

Got a question. Do you like the ranking system in the MegaMan Zero Series?
@DZ-Three
@DZ-Three 3 ай бұрын
I would say that the ranking system mostly achieves its goal of incentivizing players to go out of their way to defeat enemies and to do it fast, but there are certainly times, especially in Z1 and Z2, where the enemy count requirement is unreasonably high. I like the system well enough but ZX and ZXA definitely give players more freedom overall.

@@DZ-Three I see. Well I personally do not like the ranking system, other than just like "respect the skills" or makes you feel like a pro kind of motto. It kills the motivation for newcomers and casual playthrough players.

@@leongyuhinleong Alienating new players is definitely the system's greatest failing, though, the save-assist present in the Legacy Collection helps with that somewhat from what I understand. I think that Z4 also made a pretty good change in tying the EX Skills to weather instead of rank, that way, more players can experiment with them, just like weapons in any other Mega Man game.

I think the ranking system is somewhat encouraging players to play as cool as how Zero is, according to the lore of the game. But yeah, after I went back to X1-X6 (don't ask me why not X7 or X8 lol) something tells me I don't like the ranking system much. I really had fun with the Zero series. I did like the ranking system but for multiple replays throughout years, I got tired for some reasons... Maybe I realize no matter how hard I tried, the score won't exceed 95 or 98 (lol)
