I like to imagine mz3 staggroff is just pissed that he can’t jump high enough. So he throws icicles and snowballs and growls like an angry looney tunes character 😅
@DZ-Three2 күн бұрын
I like the idea of Staggroff being angry with Dr. Weil for not upgrading him more. Anubis and Hanumachine at least got some distinctly new moves, and Copy X got Reflect Laser. Poor Staggroff didn't even have his jumping power adjusted.

Yup. It's very unfortunate for Staggroff. I knew that would be the case for Z3 because of how high up you are when the fight ends, but I didn't plan for the off-screen win in Z1. It just happened to work out that way.
@lightningedge3 күн бұрын
Poor stag can't jump high enough. Also I like that you showcased throwing the shield upwards with a jump being a possible feat. To anyone who wishes to learn how to do so, simply release the shield boomerang (either a few frames before or at the same time, but not after) as you press the jump button. There is a very tiny window during the windup where Zero isn't movement-locked; this causes the shield trajectory to be pre-registered as thrown on ground despite being in the air thereafter.
@DZ-Three3 күн бұрын
If only Weil had given his jumping mechanism a bit more power. Throwing the Shield upward from the ground is a very useful technique indeed. I didn't have enough space to discuss it in the description this time, so I appreciate the detailed breakdown of how it works.

I have thought about what the combo system in these games would look like if all four weapons could be equipped. It'd be easy to support the input style on modern controllers and keyboards. You are right, though; Zero's already devastatingly powerful with just two weapons equipped.

Agreed, in a more complex game like Devil May Cry, it will be easier done in MMZ games. The delay control is completely eliminated in hard mode (lol).

@DZ-Three10 күн бұрын
I'd say that I trend toward the skill-intensive side of things for sure. I suppose the way that I analyze things does seem serious, but I do still enjoy the process of coming up with the idea for a challenge and then putting it together.

@DZ-Three17 күн бұрын
It certainly took a ton of practice to pull this off. I dedicated much more time to this than any other challenge I've done thus far. For Craft's Mega Beam Sweep, you can interrupt it by hitting him with a sufficiently powerful attack. The Water Gun is obviously too weak, so I have to perform those jumps at the edge of the arena to avoid it, but if you use the Saber, you can knock Craft out of the air, avoiding the attack and providing a combo opportunity.

Thank you very much! The best advice I can give for boss challenges like this is to spend a lot of time doing research. Pick a fight and spend some time playing around without worrying about getting hit. See how you can manipulate attacks and boss behaviors, determine the size of hitboxes, find combo openings, and become as familiar as possible with every facet of the fight. From there, you can choose one or multiple challenges to pursue: hyper-offensive stuff like pushing combo sequences to their limit, extremely defensive approaches like the one you see here, or some type of middle ground. I hope that helps.

It'll always be mesmerizing to watch someone with a more aggressive playstyle do their magic I prefer safer approaches (for both Craft fights on my quest to beat Z4 on Normal once, I used my saber more as a defensive measure) but that sure doesn't stop him from giving me plenty of grief
@DZ-Three17 күн бұрын
Destroying Craft's projectiles with the Saber is definitely the way to go for a safer fight. The Homing Missiles that give me so much trouble here are actually one of my favorite things to see in a regular fight. Cutting them down leaves Craft wide open, letting you hit him with a highly damaging combo.

The water pump that Zero can steal the Water Gun from only appears in the Human Settlement, so it's not possible to fight any other boss than Craft with it legitimately. However, there are cheat codes that let you change your Z-Knuckle weapon at will, so I could look into giving some other bosses a go with the Water Gun at some point.

Most people don’t realize that Locomo IF only has half the health of a typical stage boss, which is significantly lower compared to other mini bosses.

Yup. It's a great design decision on Inti's part since Locomo's core is a fairly small target that's exposed for a very limited amount of time. Its large attack hitboxes and the Gabyoalls don't help either, so it's nice that it's possible to win in a single cycle and avoid all that trouble.
