Did they make it seem like Cillian’s character was actually the brother of John’s? I think it’s great when they don’t spell out stuff and let people interpret it on their own which is what Alex was doing. Most of the lore that they talk about was kinda known from the first movie but I really liked it.

@@nughnyabidness7635 I don’t think they were hinting at them being brothers. I remember John’s character telling Cillian’s character to talk to his brother who was in the army and let him know what he says about the meteor that they saw in the beginning

@@joshuathomas5626 Are you talking about the people or the aliens? If it’s the aliens then I think they can swim, but probably not in areas filled with water that are like around 15 or 30 ft.
@joshuathomas5626
@joshuathomas5626 2 жыл бұрын
@@ADHD_God5489 I'd imagine that the aliens are motivated by a carnal animal instinct based on their behavior. If I'm remembering right in the first movie the water was somewhere around waist high on the mom, so the alien would either have to crouch to an unnatural degree if they were using the bottom of the floor while swimming, or they were extended like a dolphin in the water swimming. To crouch would indicate that the alien was being sneaky (which is fairly out of character for them) or they thought their prey was under water so he submerged into a swimming motion. Also I think it's funny how much thought goes into a scene where they probably just thought I'd be cool if an alien was swimming lmao

The first thing me and my friends thought after watching the movie was how different it was to the first one despite this movie picking up where it left off. There are new locations and characters too. There is a release of tension especially when they get to the island. Monsters behave the same but why would that be different? In the first movie they defend the farmhouse, this one they explore the movie's world a bit more which I enjoyed.

The Joe Team seems to have forgotten the problem with "horror" films and sequels. 1. It's very hard to scare the audience a second time (as the audience knows what to expect.) 2. There is no horror if the cast makes logical decisions. 3. Monsters always "just somehow" show-up/get lucky. Additionally the "Part II" was from what I could tell...was very deliberate. The movie literally starts where the other ended. This sets 2 rules. 1. They can't jump the shark/dramatically up the intensity without the movie losing its realistic theme. IE: There was/is no time skip (like in most films). So the family is as vulnerable, barely armed, and etc as before. 2. It allows for the characters to grow and for gradual expansion of the universe. To be fair. This is just 1 random family, they aren't going to uncover a shits-worth of important lore. The movie played it very safe. But we also got much more of the monsters. My biggest gripe was that we learned nothing about the monsters reasons for killing everyone. Are they eating the humans? (Cause it really didn't seem so. They seemed to just kill and move on.) To be honest, I wasn't upset with the small town store being stocked seeing how the monsters seem to have REALLY, REALLY, REALLY exterminated humanity. The fact shit was so well stocked actually made things scarier. If supplies are scarce then that means a lot of people survived. If supplies are plentiful.......then....yeah....thats a very bad sign. Overall, I agree with the 7/10 rating. Gotta rip Angry Joe for one thing... "This movie and the first could have just been combined into 1 movie." - Angry Joe Yeah....that's why it's called "Part 2". I agree with some gripes but not with this idea that this film needed to be dramatically different. As for the nit-picks over the aliens being unable to swim and the mass populace not learning, not sharing, and etc. Uh...look at how folks responded to the pandemic... Something like this would very much wipe out humanity....in mere days.

Hey anyone remember that movie "Outlander" that came out in 2008. The movie with the Moorwen that attracted its prey with light. I wonder how it would fare against these creatures.
@80sRetrosaur
@80sRetrosaur 3 жыл бұрын
I remember that movie, I enjoyed it. I think the monsters from the quiet place would take the moorwen. The moorwen might have a lot of physicality but they lack the defence to stay in the game against a clearly tougher foe. The lightshow would be ineffective though the moorwen does have agility on it's side. Strength level they seem fairly similar, I couldn't say either way. Again the quiet monsters hide is an important factor, without it I'd say moorwen but as it is I can't see the moorwen doing enough damage in single combat and without the ability to ambush to get a clean enough hit to kill. This might seem rambly but I'm drunk as all hell right now.

@@80sRetrosaur ooof not sure about the lacking defence part, they blew it up and it was only slightly annoyed they only managed to hurt it with space age metal from outlanders ship it was immune to what was available on earth. Its also blindingly fast, multiple times in the movie it pounces and death rolls someone before they can get a sword out. It also displayed enough intelligence to hold a grudge against the main character as well as hunt trap and attract anyone who encountered it. Plus its size and muscle mass. My bets on the Moorwen.

I agree. It should at least be a 7/10. It's really difficult to make a horror movie sequel because the first movie had the advantage of surprising the audience. The audience doesn't know what to expect nor do they have info on the monsters, so having the sequel use the same monsters is a huge risk since now we already know that they can be killed. Lack of information is the key factor to making a tense horror film.

My main criticism for the movie is just that not all that much actually happened. If anything, it felt like a really long, high budget episode or two of a series than a movie. Yeah, sure, stuff technically happened plot wise, but there just wasn't that many individual scenes. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you shouldn't make an hour and a half long movie where the scenes last 5+ minutes a piece.

Aside from the specific characters, it was literally them using that sound to mess with the creature and then kill it, and then boom, movie ends. We're supposed to be in awe of that "build up moment"? We already know that's how they can be killed.
@nunnymw2902
@nunnymw2902 3 жыл бұрын
@Mark Fitzgerald it OBVIOUSLY isn't the same movie, scene for scene, he knows that, I know that, you know that. However, if you take into account the recurring factors; the kids making dumb decisions leading to problem. The lack of revealing more about the aliens, (beside knowing they came down with a meteor?). The samey-tension scenes that typically end how you'd expect. There is actually quite alot that was poor with the writing of this movie, and it's seems so obvious to me, I'm confused by the high ratings...unless good acting and directing is all you need and a good story isn't something you need?
@vtpanand
@vtpanand 2 жыл бұрын
@@nunnymw2902 there was no new means of killing the monster, but the difference is that the kids taking up the adults role,for reagan it's a redemption for her dad's sacrifice and for the boy it's overcoming his anxiety. I never did understand how they survived the vaccum of Space... Rode a Meteor through the atmosphere/landing from thousands of feet in the air... but cant swim? They don't even need to breath, there should be many traversing the ocean floor.
@Astraeus..
@Astraeus.. 2 жыл бұрын
Needing to breathe or not is legitimately the least significant issue with having to walk across the bottom of the ocean. Average ocean depth is 3700 meters. Pressure increases by roughly 1 atmosphere per 10 meters of depth, so average is 370 atmospheres, which is roughly 5400 PSI. Any creature that isn't designed to survive or function at those depths just legitimately can't do it. Even if somehow that pressure didn't crush the aliens insides to paste, they wouldn't be able to move at all. They'd just get crushed into the muddy ground and that's it, game over.

I disagree. That scene also elicited a conscious reaction from me but I thought the exact opposite. When I saw that scene my reaction was "For once they depicted someone in danger trying to get out of there as fast as possible". Most movies would probably depict the character stumbling backwards a few paces, falling backwards on their ass and then looking dumbfounded for a few seconds before finally slowly starting to panic, clumsily get up and run away. That's movie theatrics, not real life. In real life a car gets knocked over and people flung around right in front of your eyes out of nowhere, you turn and run for at least a few dozen meters before maybe turning around and assessing the situation. You think in real life your survival instincts and adrenaline system would let you just stand there calmly to rationally deduce "Oh! This situation is dangerous, I better run". No man, that's not realistic at all. The way the movie did it was excellent and way more realistic than most other movies would have done it.

The timescale of the first movie means those things have been on Earth a very long time- It should have been addressed then. I'm guessing the writers had no clue how to write something cogent about that or it wouldn't fit the very linear, confined and still nonsensical plot they did manage to put out. So they go by sound, OK, but we never see them blindly run into things, trip over things, get caught into things etc. Creatures that can't see usually have all kinds of appendages to slowly feel their way around plus an excellent sense of smell. These creatures have neither, yet they lunge around the world a high speed fully aware of their environment. Maybe they're like Bats? Echolocation. Except if you have echolocation you wouldn't need sound anymore in the direct sense. Because echolocation is more like "seeing through sound", like a radar that creates a 3D scan. Also it senses movement. If the creatures have echolocation they should be able to "see" people even if they're dead quiet. Even if people didn't move echolocation would still reveal their general shape and position to the creatures. So they don't have echolocation yet can perfectly navigate their environment at high speed. That my first big issue. And then, one of the creatures jumps blindly into the water and drowns. Immediately raising more questions. Are they not aware of their environment after all? Or did it know the water was there but wasn't familiar yet with the concept of water? Didn't understand it's not a flat surface you can walk on? So there's no bodies of water on their planet? How do they drink? the fluids of human corpses (if they even eat them) can't be enough to sustain such large creatures. Lions eat whole gazelles yet still have to drink a ton of water. Maybe on their planet they suck fluid out of large alien plant life. But then there's no such plants here on earth obviously. Also we are day 474, Shouldn't these creatures have figured out water by now? And since the planet's surface is 71 percent water the vast majority of these creatures should have died on day one. And then there the common problems that come with biological-organism-induced-apocalyse scenarios. If they hunt people and most people are dead what are they even living off? Wild life? Wild life couldn't sustain anything more than a scarce prehistoric human population in the past, there's no way an army of large carnivores could live of the wild life. The only thing that would explain it all away is if the creatures are a biologically engineered weapon sent by another sentient race. Their only instinct is to kill, they have no metabolism, they just die off after a while and get replaced through new drops. ..............Eeeeeexcept, why would aliens engineer bio weapons that can't see? Unless they can't see themselves. But then how would they even reach a highly advanced technological level?

Alex really is the back bone of this show. The only objective and not purely subjective reviewer with the most well thought out opinions. Also nice to see OJ come into his own over time. Even though his opinions still tend to piggyback AJs opinions sometimes.

There is no way this was just like the first one. We got to meet other characters and go to different places than just the immediate family. There was character development (especially by the daughter), and there was much more action.

Do you guys enjoy anything that isn't filled with trash,corny,cheesy, jokes. Some of your movie reviews for trash movies are rated higher simply cause of the well if you drink of few beers while others you just trash for the shock value. Good thing at least two of you "enjoyed it"

I feel like you can say that about every single film that has a sequel. It uses the same characters and the same world. The world concept is the same so they can't just go and change things drastically and not make it make sense. All the Marvel movies are the same as each other in that case. A hero is born/ created a Villain rises and becomes a conflict, the hero stops said villain. So how come this point of view has only been addressed on this movie?

The director said he never intended to make a second film. He didnt do much more creatively. And ignored corners he wrote himself into in the first. At the end of the first tons of the creatures were running towards the farm and it cut. I absolutely loved it because of the open endedness of they have a way to win but the odds are so stacked as they have 1 gun. This one starts with that element removed. Theyre just safe... for... reasons... I could go on for awhile of bad inconsistent writing. (Like who tf were the boat rapists??) If marvel or star wars did such large inconsistencies people would pick it apart so hard. But because this is one of the first big movies back in theaters i think general audiences are just happy to be back in. The theaters.

Angry Joe does not get the concept. A Quiet Place 1 and 2 are meant to be watched Back to back as a 3 hour movie! - it would not work any other way.

Yh but the film came out two years later not the same year. No one wants to see the same shit all over again and more less effective version than the first.

I felt the pacing was great, reminded me of older, classic films back in the day where they just let the camera roll and film the characters doing shit in one take. So tired of jump cuts every 10 seconds. I'd give that film a 8/10, the constant time lapses were a bit much.

@@jase276 absolutely! The time lapses was the pacing I was referring too, plus like the opening scene, the dialogue was kinda off with the whole “I thought you said the coffee was hot, it just wasn’t as suspenseful as it could have been. Plus with the scenes with the gate guy in the pool room was not necessary. Like I understand the whole team giving him a hard time but it was more scenes of it than needed. I felt the movie picked up during “scorched earth”

18:45 I never got this sense?? He only said he never answered because it's too much of a risk to involve with more people because they're noise liability. Also he said he didn't trust anyone anymore because the people left in the world have turned into savages. "not worth saving" Idk where alex got that conclusion from
