Went up to the White Mountains again to hike around this Memorial Day weekend. We kept pretty loose plans as far as what we were going to do and just sort of winged it. The bugs, nesting birds, and not so legal campsites, had our plans changing regularly but thats how it goes sometimes.
Overall it was a great memorable weekend, good food, good trails, and good times. I also coincidentally ran into Erica (aka Spitfire) whom I had hiked with for about the first 500 miles or so of the Appalachian Trail in 2017. Crazy coincidence that we both happened to be out in the middle of nowhere at the exact same time... again.

During the pandemic I was leaving trail and summit names out of many of my videos due to issues with massive overcrowding on the trail, as well as, issues in regards to what I would consider uneducated or irresponsible hiker behavior. The most notable of which was trash, and human waste / toilet paper I was finding directly on, or just off, trail. I kept some of the trail and location names in this video. If you are using this video for planning purposes, please use the trail responsibly and try to follow leave no trace principles. It only takes one person not doing so to ruin it for everyone. If you are a newer hiker please watch this video before heading out on trail: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ms6Uaqhl162tp3U.html Here is an article about the issue with trash and human waste specifically in the Whites www.nhpr.org/post/trouble-trails-forest-service-grapples-crowds-trash-and-human-waste#stream/0 Another article about Max Patch (an iconic part of the Appalachian Trail) and the issues occurring there www.citizen-times.com/story/news/local/2020/09/23/max-patch-residents-campers-creating-safety-hazards-mountain/5858936002/ Here you can learn about leave no trace (LNT) principles lnt.org/why/7-principles/ www.nps.gov/articles/leave-no-trace-seven-principles.htm

Can’t go to Lincoln without a stop at Flapjacks. Love the trails in Evans Notch. Blueberry, Speckled, Caribou are all great hikes. Enjoyed the format. Nature at its finest.

Ive done so much on the west side of 113 and seriously not a single trail up until this weekend to the east. Definitely plan to go back soon. Would like to just take a couple days off, throw on a day pack and roam about the whole area

Tried something a little different in this video, Mainly no music and more nature-y sounds. It has nothing to do with the fact that I was frustrated as hell and annoyed finding songs.... nothing at all....

Cheers! Its actually quicker to edit without the music added, but getting the footage and having nature actually make audible sounds regularly is time consuming as hell haha

1. Car camping there: have been to The Basin and Hastings. while both are good, the Basin is next to a gorgeous Basin and you can access several trails. 2. We missed you! We went up Speckled Mtn from Evergreen/Cold Brook on the other side. Highly recommended. lots of beautiful ledges, flowers, a tarn halfway up

I keep hearing great things about the Basin! Hoping to go back up that area soon, I would have loved to have checked out the whole area around there even more. Need like a full week just to go there and waltz around at my leisure

Can you share a packlist (what you brought in your pack(s)) on those hikes? Bags looked bigger than a day hike so I'm assuming it's an overnight setup but I thought, why not simply ask. :-) Great videos btw! Bugs are also starting to get bad over in the waterville valley area too now.

Ya we brought a full overnight load out. We intended to stay out and were told of some campsites but they weren't exactly legal. So we skipped out and just decided to loop back out. Im pretty sure im still using like 90% of the same stuff as in this video. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gN98ac11x5iYpas.html Only major change i see is using a hyperlite mountain gear shoulder pocket now, switched back to an enlightened equipment 20 degree revelation bag and tent I switch between the solplex, altplex and a big agnes copper spur hv ul2 depending how I feel

Just moved to the Midwest but this was one of my absolute favorite areas to explore when I was still in MA, go check out the basin campground it’s in the whites right on the NH/ME line, even if you don’t stay the road it’s on is worth the drive and view, I think it’s RT 113 or 133 something like that

OMG that breakfast is so decadent and as we all know decadence is good 😊. I backpack/camp in N Arizona and I just can’t get used to all those tall green things (I think they’re called trees), I’m used to open views and seeing wide horizons. I think I might feel hemmed in if I hiked in your neck of the woods. It’s always good to see your posts, thank you for sharing 🙏🏼
