Children forced out of Ukraine by war have lost not only their homes, but also the comfort of regular routines and social interactions. To help newly arrived Ukrainian children in Bucharest, teachers from Ukraine started a free primary school with help from the Government of Romania and UNICEF.
"We saw a lot of children crossing the border and sleeping in churches or in gyms and refugee centers. And what we saw is that their mothers are so stressed," said Anastasiia, one of the teachers, who fled Ukraine with her 2-year-old son in March. "We need to give these children an opportunity to have a normal life. And normal for a child is a school."
