I originally found this from the file on thingaverse that I linked in the description, not the Russian channel people are mentioning. I hadn't seen that video until now. Not sure how I missed it, but here is the Russian channel's full metal version of this, very cool! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/maqWgKxmxs7Gen0.html

Right?! And what is the point of a multi directional screw when the nut is directional? Since they work only together, when actually using the screw it will only tighten and loosen in the direction of the nut. Maybe there is an application with the part about putting on two of different direction, and not being able to unscrew it?

@@friedpotato6846 Not to be pedantic, but it is actually a bolt in this scenario. And it would be called a "wrench" not a boltdriver. It's a bolt due to several thing: 1) it has no pointed end. Most of the definitions of bolt have to do with a metal rod in some capacity 2) the head is hexagonal instead of round 3) there is no slot on the top that a screwdriver would fit into

Cool! And you could make a nut that would be the same way, able to go onto a left-handed or right-handed screw. Now if you used a 2-way bolt with a 2-way nut, I imagine either turning direction could go in or out depending on the slight force you put one way or the other? I wonder if there could be some use for that?

Sounds good - problem is, its actually a good thing to know that you always unscrew by turning left. Otherwise, if i see a screwed in screw then i know that turning left will take it out regardless of if it terms to be really tight. If it could go both ways, i'd have to guess if i'm actually tightening it making it worse!

Lead refers to the amount of pitches. Most screws are single lead. Soft drink bottle caps can be 5 or even 8 leads but only have a pitch of a few mm
@Sarin-Q
@Sarin-Q 3 жыл бұрын
@@billweber1340 Just looked it up and lead refers specifically to the distance traveled per full turn of the bolt, whereas pitch is the measure of the distance between threads. Pitch and lead of a bolt are equal in measure (an M10x1.5 has a pitch of 1.5mm and a lead of 1.5mm), but they refer to different things.
@billweber1340
@billweber1340 3 жыл бұрын
@@Sarin-Q yes that's correct IF it's a single start thread. If there are multiple starts it's different. You can have an M10x1.5 with a 2 start thread. Still has a 1.5mm pitch but will be a 3mm lead.
