One of the biggest blessings of my life was growing up on the family farm. It took my years to notice that farming introduced me to stillness since I was a child.

I am not a Christian, but I find a lot of universal wisdom said in such simple words. We can't fully live if we can't be present. So much knowledge❤ thank you Mr. Butler 🤗

Likewise. At the risk of doing injustice to his beautiful teachings, I believe the use of Christian concepts and framings in his talks is not necessary, and in fact limits the infinite to which he points (as do any other framings, religious or secular). Sometimes John himself acknowledges this fact, other times he can't seem to help but to express himself this way. And maybe on the level of language and "me" none of us can help but explain things in the ways we came to know them personally. This is not a fault of John's but those who take his apparently deep wisdom and clarity as evidence Chistianity is the one true faith may be misguided. All that being said, having listened to at least a hundred spiritual teachers over the years, none succeed in pointing me to the silence in which I dissolve better than this bearded man. Much love to John and to good-hearted people the world over.

As I listened to John talk about angels and his farm, I was reminded of one of my favorite Jewish proverbs: “Every blade of grass has an angel on its tip whispering: ‘Grow, grow…’” For some reason, this thought has always brought me enormous comfort. John and Phil, thank you so much for another year of beautiful and inspiring videos. You have seen me through some very dark times over this past year, and I am eternally grateful to you for that. I wish both of you a happy, blessed and joyous New Year! 🙏❤️🥳

⁠Thank you so much! It’s one of my favorites, and I’m so glad it spoke to you. I have a really terrible memory in general, but for some reason I can remember short pithy statements, like proverbs. Here are a couple more of my favorites: “Yesterday is ashes, Tomorrow is wood, Only today does the fire burn bright.” - Inuit proverb “Barn burnt down, Now I can see the moon.” - Appalachian proverb “Holding on to anger or resentment is like swallowing poison and expecting the other person to die.” - the Buddha These are a few more favorites! But I’ve got a million of them!! 😂

I'm reminded of Meister Eckart: "...if you've made your peace then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the Earth." So I've returned to my farming too, but I see it as an extension of the microcosm we've been working on now. Sustenance for life and the living we share by using things instead of people; things I believe will bring nourishment through the net supported by growing a garden again.
