'The meaning of life is to live fully - not plastic pleasure, not tinsel town pleasure - to live simply and enjoy life' - Lindsay Murray
Lindsay lives in a small town in the South Island of New Zealand. He lives a simple life, filled with simple pleasures. He believes that we've replaced beauty with what money can purchase. And through this, have lost connection with the real beauty, the bountiful gifts of nature, that are accessible to us all.
All of our films are made possible through the generous support of our patrons.

In collaboration with iNous, we recently released a beautiful deck of 52 cards - each card containing a quote from one of our films, paired with the activating visual muses of Lanon Prigge. The aim of this deck is to rekindle child-like curiosity and creativity, helping to navigate the shared waters of our human experience with grace and joy. Who is Reflections of Life? We are Justine and Michael (previously known as Green Renaissance). We use our passion for filmmaking and our love of storytelling, to remind our audience of one simple truth - that we are all human. The more that we understand and believe in this interconnectedness, the more we will treat ourselves, one another, and planet earth with a greater sense of compassion.
A huge thank you to these guys who have given so freely of their time to assist with translations:

I’m 56 and I severed my spinal cord in 1986 & became paralysed from my shoulders down. Sometimes I sit in my bed and watch these videos and read the comments and think…. Well I wonder at how much people have, without even knowing it. Or not seeing it. Life is hard, yes. But it mostly beats being dead….😎❤

I'm 54 and I can't sleep at night because I'm in a panic about my life slipping away from me. I'm in a rush all day, often paralysed with indecision about what is the most important and useful thing to do so my day is not wasted. Sometimes i feel bad because I watch so many videos on KZfaq but videos like this help me so much. The idea of living simply like this lovely man does actually makes me cry. I crave it so much. Thank you for your videos. I'm sorry I can't help financially.

I have learned from watching these videos, that being moved forward by society and its expectations, isn't always what moves you in your heart. I try to carve out a few moments in my day, just to do something that moves me. This is what nourishes the soul and makes the memories. Take a moment just to breathe, and do something for yourself. Or even, on occasion, do absolutely nothing at all - sometimes that in itself is calming. Be well. :)

"Your constant search for the perfect life will become your greatest source of misery." Quit watching the false representations of those who have supposedly figured it all out and are "living the life!" Your life is just as epic - maybe more. Enjoy every day - the weather, the challenges, the people - everything! Your whole life is a miracle - why not accept God's judgment?

I am a 29-year-old guy. I have been chasing life since i knew myself. I spent high school away from my family and then college for 6 years in another country. I hoped i could reunite with my family at last, but then life drove me to migrate to australia to find a better life. My country is wrecked with war. It’s been two years now. That means i have been chasing an elusive dream for 11 years away from family. The thing is I dont see myself get happier. I feel lonely and i look back too much to my memories of my childhood, which wasnt that pleasant but at least it was with my family and loved ones. I dont know what to do next in my life. I have grown very pessimistic and always wonder why life can sometimes be unfair. Hearing this man talking hit me to the core. I hope i can have his outlook at life where simple things are appreciated and happiness seems to pour out without the need to buy any fancy stuff. To be just content. I dont know why i felt like sharing my story here, but thanks for reading.

@Abdullah Al-Selwi - THANK YOU for taking the time to share your story with us. Deeply moving, and I think one that resonates with many people in this world today. What we have learnt from many of the people who have shared their stories with us, is that life is a journey. It isn't always easy. There are many challenges to be faced. But keep the faith. Keep moving forward. Keep strong. And most of all, keep moving towards creating a life that makes you and your family happy. We send you much love xxx

Thank you for sharing your story with us. Other lives look great, but we don't see the pain and suffering they may be feeling. Just because someone seems like they have it all- don't feel envious. Many rich successful people commit suicide and are drug addicts. Just do what you can to make yourself your best and try to help others.

I feel the same way. Until I feel into depression for almost 2 years. Question the purpose of life day by day. What is meaning of life. I mind can't bare it anymore. I was so depressed until I can't sleep at night until 4 or 5 am in the morning. When I fall asleep I was hunted with nightmare. Mostly bad dreams about dangerous animals as snake and crocodile trying to hurt me. When I awake from my bad dream my body was paralysed. I could move. Sometimes dream about someone stabbing me. Sometimes dreaming about something want to enter my body. Sometime someone chock my neck. Going to sleep is like a battlefield to me. I was so scared to fall asleep. I couldn't sleep in dark because I was so scared. I was praying so hard. Listening to affirmations. Listening to motivational speakers but nothing heal my in the long term. It's just make me feel for few hours or few days. Then when covid-19 appear I'm my country. I need to stay home. For almost 4 months. This make me even depressed because I could not work and I need listen to the voice of unhappiness in my mind for the entire time. At this moment I don't have any choice I need to face it. What I do is I do exercise. I try to cook healthy food. I give time for my self. I was so motivated to be fit n slim and I lost 8 kg. I was happy with my new look but I'm still not happy. Now I can go back to work but it's not the same as before. I has so many day off because our company is reducing salaries. The day off make me time to think deeply about what I want is success peace happy love, what kind of happiness do I want. Then try to solve what is my problem with my life. Why I couldn't find this in anyway. I found out that Its because of my trauma as a kid. And it's because of what is happiness and success that accepted in the world. The world nowadays showing us, to be success and happy u need to be recognised n accept. U need to be famous. U need to be somebody with money. Without money you are nothing. Still remembering my depression period all I want is to be in jungle, laying down in the grass and watching the beautiful blue sky. After asking day by day what is my happiness. I finally found out my happiness be who I am. I want to live in the village surrounded with nature, plant my flower, decorated my house. Its was so simple but I make it so complicated to be accepted to other people. Now I found my answers and I'm moving out to my hometown next year on May to pursue my happiness. I hope I my experience could help you. I totally understand you. Please don't give up. U just need to keep moving. I will get the right answers when the time is right.

Update for July 15th 2022 at the bottom: I am 26. Even my parents and Grandparents call me old-fashioned. I hate the microwave and the dishwasher. I love building and repairing stuff. I just graduated college and am looking for some crappy office job, believing that I have no choice in today's society. My dream is to live on 5+ acres with two goats and a horse, in the countryside. I wish I chose civil engineering or carpentry, or just something that wasn't Computer Science. But, I plan on being in the office for just a few years at least, as I save up and commute to and from my near-future country home. But all I know it that I am a Country boy at heart (I call myself a "Country Boy Wanna-be" since I was born in the city and raised in the suburbs, and have yet to lift even one bale of itchy hay, or ride a tracker). I'm dreaming of leaving a cheap city society of snobs who can't look away from their phones for one minute, to simply smile at you. I won't miss the crowds and trying to impress people who don't even care about you. Everyone else my age likes "Lil Nas" and "Niki Minaj," while I listen to George Strait, Charlie Pride, Lorreta Lynn, Stevie Nicks, and Chaka Khan. I love Old Country cooking and the stores too. If I were born in another time period I'd maybe be a full-time carpenter or a cobbler. But, I'd like to learn those as hobbies. We all have to work but aren't there other options besides sitting behind a screen? Anyway. Have a nice day to anyone who reads this. :-) Update (October 18, 2021): It was a long road with Technology and I didn't really like it. It was very difficult finding jobs like "Data Analyst" which I was MAKING myself like, to get the $20+/hour. Two weeks ago I finally FINALLY landed a job in Assembly. I make $16/hour and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. It makes a few dollars less but is 10 hours a day, 40 hours a week. Three-day weekends. It is the most peaceful place I've ever worked at. I literally mean that I LOVE coming to work in the mornings. When I get home, I'm instantly bored and wish I could stay like 2 more hours. No joke. I may eventually go up to $17-18+ with this company but it is not important at the moment. I am a single adult male with no child and am able to start saving up for a beautiful home in the Countryside. I am typing this in my second break about an hour before leaving, and I can't believe how fast the day went by. My energy is great and will be going to the gym afterwards. 5 hours felt like 2 and a half. WOW!! Thank you all for everything. I will be sure to update again soon. :-) July 15th 2022 Update: That old job I hated after a while and I'm starting a blueprint drafting job that pays $26.50/hour!!! ❤️ 💙 💜 I start Monday and still can't believe it!! I'm getting so close to this dream and I thank you so much for your encouragement. :-)

Kendall - that is a beautiful message, and you sound AMAZING. To hear someone of your young age, wanting to live a life that moves them back towards the basic, simple things, is very inspiring. We salute you! Keep holding your dream high, and follow that path. During our film making journey, we have met many people like you who have become disillusioned with the corporate, big city life - they just felt that it wasn't for them - that their heart, mind and soul needed something else. Keep working towards that dream, and make it happen. Soon you'll be a real time Country Boy (NO Wanna-be), waking every morning with a smile on your face because you feel that you are finally where you belong. It isn't always an easy journey, but it is definately one worth following. Please keep in touch with us and keep us updated on your journey. And keep tuned into this channel - we share so many stories about people who think and feel just like you do - and hopefully you'll find the inspiration to keep you going. BIG hugs and lots of love from South Africa. Justine x

My name is Kira Yoshikage. I’m 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department store, and I get home every day by 8pm at the latest. I don’t smoke, but I occasionally drink. I’m in bed by 11pm, and I make sure to get 8 hours of sleep no matter what. After having a warm glass of milk, and doing 20 minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems of sleeping until morning.Just like a baby, I wake up without without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last checkup. I’m trying to explain that I’m a person who wishes to live a very quiet life.I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning or losing. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight, I wouldn’t lose to anyone.

Btw even tho my salary is high I live in a 23 m2 apartment in a very minimalistic way. It's so tiny, some people I invite over are laughing at me but I don't care:P It's cute, simple and practical. I love learning about everything, I learn from anything. From the birds and animals I observe , to philosophers, artist, to a random person. I love creating things out of random stuff. This… is a life worth living. Much wisdom, and a beautiful soul. With time, I’ve come to believe the same things. Todays world has complicated things so much, it’s unbalanced. And we’ve been looking for complicated answers to complicated questions. I believe most answers are simple. And I also think that when live a simple kind of life, you will know exactly who are. The materialistic world is hollow. Things mean nothing… people do though. I love the part about the dishes!!! It’s never been my favorite either. Thank you for sharing.

I got depressed a few years ago after a spiritual awakening and my old life falling apart. yeah i manifested good amount of clothes, food , money , abundance etc. Soon i started feeling overwhlmed a month ago and i am learning this new way to restraint myself and learning to create less. I listen to monk teachings and i was getting a lot of panic attacks in the beginning but now i am getting used to it. Slowly. Thoughts like I'll become insane comes less often and i feel better slowly. It takes strength to restraint. Restraint from creating more , wanting more, going out more. That's my daily task now... Restraining!!! Good luck to everyone🎉 all my life i have been so ambitious and suddenly i find myself craving for a simple day so bad. I don't even care if i don't get married. I don't wanna work much. I have enough. Maybe much later in future if there's need due to inflation. Otherwise, everything is enough. ❤️❤️

This is soo beautiful !! I sent it to my family and friends and I've watched it 3 times now. It's how I'm living right now ... I live alone in a VERY rustic little cottage on a farm at Gamtoos River Mouth, on the Eastern Cape Coast, 1090 kms away from my son and loved one's in Johannesburg and 25 kms from the nearest shops. I miss my son dreadfully, but he is a man now and having his own life experiences, but I do not miss the hordes of mean greedy selfish vicious people and the city lifestyle. I am now being rewarded for all the hardships, pain and suffering that life threw at me these last 57 years by now living a simpler life ... what a wonderful gift it is 💜

What a lovely guy. You know what struck me? When someone loves something about themselves -- say their pirate teeth, for example -- I begin loving it too. At first glance one may think "Oh my gosh that poor man's teeth." But then you hear his admiration, his surrender, for what he has and that mouth full of character becomes, suddenly, somehow, beautiful. If he loves it, then I love it. Something to ponder today. Your films make me grow. Appreciate this lesson, kind sir.

Truly enjoyed this video. Every word is my self feelings and notable attitude I have. My everyday life is simple as I always wished it to be. It turned simple and peaceful after retirement two years ago. I keep to myself and greet with a hello or good day to people while out and about taking care of personal business. No one comes to my house except, my adult children. I have not everyday friends to sin with for I am Christ centered and Faith centered in the word of my spiritual father Jehovah and in the 24/7 company of his Holy Ghost guiding me, protecting me, and leading me into all truths. This has been my blessings in my life, my success and happiness, contentfulnes and good health both sound mind and body. I long for nothing. Simple living no thirst for anything. I am truly blessed.

That's an ideal life where you work for becoming self-sufficient whether someone stays with you or not . You simple isolate yourself from this So-Called Modernized society .I am 20 y/o and was born in the Capital of my country but I had a strong affinity for my countryside and I had always wish to grow meadows and smell some fresh my own grown vegetables in the valley where I have nothing to worry about what's going on in rest of the world. I have deep longing for having a small cottage in the woods where I have my goats in the backyard . My heart cheers me up to be a shepherd . I have no hesitation in what anyone would think of me . It's just what I would truely live my life to the fullest. I am thinking about getting admission in Agriculture department so that I might have easy access to fields and would earn an opportunity to spend the rest of my life in suburbs and villages . Thanks very much for reading it .

The thumbs down have been raised by a different philisophy. Ie never be satisfied with enough, always strive for more. Never be satisfied. So they never are. They never have enough. They wonder why they are never happy.

Hi, renaissance team, thank you for sharing! Haha: 'I even kind of enjoy to do the dishes'... I know, what he’s talking about. Loved this simple life view and all the books in the background in times, where people consider books as 'clutter' and only read e books...if they read. He lives at a wonderful place and he loves his 'pirate look', his arts, it really seems easy to have a fulfilled life if you like that. Hope you’ll meet more people like him. Have a nice journey, love from Germany, Monika❣️

This guy has nailed the meaning of life in this book, so many wonderful small things around us all, the world seems locked into a frenzy of activity, and most are completely missing the point, I think the greatest thing to achieve is peace of mind and contentment.

To begin a new day ,every morning I'd like to find an enlightening message from You Tube while I am having breakfast. I'm overjoyed to come across "Green Renaissance". I watched two of your films and immediately thought that I'll be a fan of this channel. I really appreciate all the efforts the team has been making. I worked with children with severe multiple disabilities over decades. They always inspired me, despite the fact that some live with very limited mobility, cognitive ability or even can't express themselves. Their capacity of love: being loved and to love, are as the same as all the ordinary people, and even much stronger as they receive relationships as they are. What you are presenting in this channel, every person, every single story, words of wisdom have inspired many.

I think my problem is, as a Young person, I look too far into the future, thinking at some point out there in the boundless acres of time, my future self will have things sorted out. As such I feel I don't tackle my problems or think enough about how to get there. I guess I'm afraid of not getting there or, at least, not getting to where I want to be. I too want to live a small, quiet life, somewhere outside the shackles of the modern age. Simply, I want to be content with a little, not constantly looking for anything more. I feel life is sold to us now as most things are. We are given the product of what a happy life or a fulfilled life should look like and anything that doesn't fit the mould should leave us with a distinct feeling of dissatisfaction. Being content, in the eyes of large conglomerates, is something to be feared. We are told we should want more, and so we do, thinking that it will fill the void. Sometimes buying things and accumulating things proves to be more of a coping mechanism, because I think we all know that life is empty. In that respect, I believe that the poorest people, in terms of wealth, are the richest and the freest. They don't have to be bound by the chain of commerce, although many sink back into the cycle because they think they can't be happy without money, without 'things'. If nothing, I think this video expertly conveys the truth of the matter. That we can be happy with a little. It just highlights the truly saddening reality of the human condition

@Ben Jones - and that you are able to see the cracks and the flaws, thats the value. To question, challenge and resist the pressure to 'fit the mould'. It's all a journey, and you are on the road - with each step you move towards a life that pushes towards simplicity and true happiness. Love to you as your journey unfolds. x
